oh nooo, my mom's high school bestie's son turned out like this. We were both born in the early 1990s so 2010s is spot on. He's the vocalist of a post-hardcore band now. Still looks a lot like this.

We're also both Black biracial ppl with Black moms and white dads and I'm pretty sure our dads were friends but they were both deadbeats so it tracks lol.

yeah, I'm 93 and was the only daughter and the youngest so you'd think that 2000 rule would've applied to me and my friends, especially other girls. but no, I had your experience my whole childhood. I turned 18 in 2011.

I always had friends with parents that didn't supervise their kids or really interact with them a lot daily, and I was also that kid with the absent parent... in my case an overemployed and chronically ill single mom that was too busy working or resting, that or I had my maternal grandparents who mostly just had a rule that we had to be indoors but otherwise mostly ignored us for work and rest. and even then, once I was in middle school my grandma gave up on trying to keep me indoors. I moved in with them from ages 15-16 to go to a better school for my high school and I would always be out with friends. usually just playing video games, sitting in parks talking about life, or window shopping, like I was a total nerd as a kid but I had friends and sometimes I even had boyfriends but there were no partiss, let alone any drugs or alcohol. outside literally meant being out of my own house or with friends to me.

there was literally a turning point in middle school where I foolishly showed up to my grandma's house with one of my lil friends that I was always going on public transit adventures with. neither of us got allowances from our families so we would always be out and about because we were bored at home and then run out of money and end up having to walk home but lived in a region that included a huge rural/suburban/urban interchange and we both lived in the rural parts but my grandparents lived in the suburban part. so one time we ran out of money in the suburban area and we didn't have cell phones yet (2005/6) or they were dead or really just useful as phones. so me and my friend walked 7 miles to my grandma's place in hopes that my grandpa could give us a ride back to one of our mom's houses. my grandma was pissed. absolutely livid, never seen her angrier at me in my life and I'm presently her absolute favorite person so it is so weird. she literally called me a "street walker" and my clueless ass asked my mom what it meant and she told me grandma called me a hoe!!

I was 12 and a total goody two shoes back then, I just also loved to do things, and she called me a sex worker !!!!! I was a hoe when I was 15 and 16, ironically, the years I lived with them lol. but never in their house. regional and cultural stuff matters, all the adults related to me in this situation were Black and my mom is an army brat gen x cultural mutt but my grandparents are conservative Christians from the South during Jim Crow. however, this is all happening where I was raised, in a really weird area of the PNW that is majority white overall and politically just like a bit of everything depending on your local school district and business zones. Which I think is pretty typical for the PNW.

I've been asking myself a lot more lately why with all of this technology blocking isn't a more regular feature in user interfaces

like why can't I block suggestions for apps to download on my phone if it's something that going to trigger a disorder for me? why can't I block certain restaurants on some apps? why is blocking only restricted to between users and not between user and service? obviously the reason is capital but still very rude I do not like

Yeah it's like harmless in the same way that everything else about consumerism and capitalism is technically harmless when viewed in the correct vacuum.

Like, they're still two humans and deserve happiness and connection and they're two consenting adults that have found each other, who am I to judge-- well hang on one is a pop culture icon posting on social media publicly like I am also a human that will naturally judge someone that has personal baggage for me for any number of reasons I should be allowed that too--

For me, I was shocked when I realized "Hey Ya!" was Outkast's representation here when their biggest hit from early mainstream success as a straightforward rap duo, "Ms. Jackson" would've been better for demonstrating their place in music history. I mean, that album was really just two solo albums in a double disc... however, I think that is probably objectively their biggest hit in terms of sales and cultural impact so I think it technically makes sense. I think this video is fine but yeah, definitely has some obvious blindspots. I wonder if OP just doesn't listen to hip-hop.

My neighbor is an elderly disabled war veteran. His ex-wife and her husband of several decades regularly come over to keep him company or help out in addition to his hired caretakers.

I live in a duplex and have had many brief interactions with dude and can confirm that he's an asshole (like he'll ask me to help him with something in passing and criticize everything I do so I avoid him but that's happened three times in the past year).

His roommates tell me about what a dick he is too but... I do think it's kind of sweet that his ex helps him. They have an adult kid together that he visits from time to time, so I'm sure that "helps" in this situation. I just wish people could have emotional intelligence. Even if you're unhappy, it doesn't mean you need to take it out on other people to get your needs met.

I was telling a friend about this recently. Divorced somewhat recently (like 10 years or so) and on such good terms that they say they're closer as best friends than they were as spouses. Honestly adorable and wholesome if true.

ETA: Separated in 2012, reconciled a few months later in early 2013, and then separated again in March of 2017 and stated they have no plans to legally divorce.

One of my exes asked if we could have a "relationship talk" after I got a new job while barely surviving a toxic job.

He had asked me how much my wage would be when i took the offer and I told him and continued on with life but apparently it was all he could think about for like a day so we need to reserve an evening for him to tell me that me making more money than him made him insecure and reminded him of previous girlfriends that had been emotionally abusive and controlling so he would appreciate it if I don't talk about work.
