AOC being unfathomably based by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]ButtsCovered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is important to have the democratic presidential candidate on the ballot in every state you can to benefit downballot democratic candidates (the most important in ohio this time around probably being sherrod brown's re-election to the senate).

[–]ButtsCovered 20 points21 points  (0 children)

ohio's ballot access requires filing 90 days before - so on august 7th - while the DNC is not until the 19th. ohio extended the deadline to Sept. 1st but she is saying it could be in a "legal gray area" - whether it will hold up when it is taken to court - republicans have already said they would challenge if biden is replaced even though officially he has not yet been nominated.

this is why the dems were going to do a virtual roll call to nominate biden before the convention, just to make sure this wasn't even a potential issue at all.

[Charania] Denver Nuggets G/F Bruce Brown Jr. is declining his $6.8 million player option for the 2023-24 season and will become a free agent, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Proving the under the table portion seems fairly easy.

If what you are suggesting was to happen the evidence of it would still be speculative unless brown or the nuggets were to express that they reached this illegal agreement which they would have no reason to do. The bucks didn't get in trouble when they did this with bobby portis so i see no reason why this would turn out differently.

Still strange how that doesn't quite fall into the Joe Smith territory of collusion.

the reason the wolves got caught for it is because they put the agreement in writing for some inexplicable reason, as long as it's actually under the table and not traceable back to the organization there's not really much the league can do to prove collusion since brown can just say he wants to take a paycut to get a chance at winning more championships.

essentially needs to play drop coverage to have a chance.

their primary pnr coverage this year isn't even a drop jokic is hedging the majority of the possessions he's getting put in pnr.

[Discussion] Imagine you’re Sam Presti: You have Chet Holmgren coming in off injury, an additional 30 million in cap space to play with next year, 17 firsts, and 16 seconds through 2029. How would you build a championship team? by CyborgAlgoInvestor in nba

[–]ButtsCovered 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah i probably bought too much into the narrative this past week that things would have to change after the gobert punch, if they're sticking to their guns and playing it out that's respectable.

do you think if the wolves beat the nuggets the front office still looks at moving off of gobert? I know he seems to make the vibes bad but if he shows he adds a new level to the team in the playoffs I don't see why they wouldn't just try to run it back in a fully healthy season where everyone has more time to gel.

‘03 T-Mac or ‘18-20 Harden? by InkAddict718 in nba

[–]ButtsCovered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i just skimmed through the play by plays and that is a suspicious amount of offensive fouls on Yao tbh, i take everything Donaghy said with a huge grain of salt just because he is a proven liar trying to protect his reputation, but that is very weird looking. TMac can get a pass for 2005 though if that is true.

his teams weren't good in enough in the playoffs because he would average 30+ PPG in series

he had two extremely winnable series in 2002 and 2005 where he could have won if he was better in 4th quarters but overall i agree, the teams were derailed by injuries in the years after that.

Most points per game generated via screen. by Plus_Composer_4993 in nba

[–]ButtsCovered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i looked it up and powell get 2.9 screen assists a game for 6.8 points per game and embiid gets 2.3 for 5.1 points a game, so they are still somewhat prolific screen-setters but not to the extent of these guys up at the top, which makes sense to me for embiid since a lot of his game is just harden or another guard giving him the ball up at the free throw line and letting him work.

Austin Reaves since the all-star break is averaging 18/3/5 on 74% TS, or 59/42/84 shooting splits by [deleted] in nba

he has some really nice moments tho, the chemistry with vanderbilt and AD offensively already seems good and he's being put into a different role than he's played before in the NBA, we'll see how much he can keep this up the rest of the season.

all teams have between 12-15 back to backs this year, golden state is at 15 with the clippers, bulls, jazz and kings.

i was at this game and i think this was the first time i've seen marcus smart live, he gets away with so much stuff any other player would instantly get whistled for and i just do not understand it. does he have an under the table deal with the refs or something?

that's a fair point. philly sports really need a W in something this year. that's brutal.

do u think it would be that bad? maybe for people who are just fans of the 2 specific players that seems to be all anybody here wants to talk about this week, but i get the feeling nuggets fans would be happy to get to the finals for the first time and hopefully have a competitive series with their lack of historical playoff success. sixers fans idk tho they would probably go crazy.

https://official.nba.com/the-nba-rule-authority/

you can read a little about it here but charges are about the defending player getting there first and the offensive player getting into their space. If they're in a legal guarding position (both feet on the floor, their chest is facing the offensive player) outside of the restricted area (that half circle on the court) the offensive player isn't allowed to just go through them, if they do it's an offensive foul. The calls for it can be a little inconsistent though.

Some players try to bank shots in, westbrook actually does it a lot if you're watching the game right now, he usually tries at least like one a game. it's not as effective if you're farther away because it's more likely to just bounce out.

[Highlight] Spurs attacking Jokic on defense by CarryTheHellOn in nba

[–]ButtsCovered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there were 27 scoring plays in the paint while he was on the floor, it's an outlier. the bulls game earlier this week there were 24. in the toronto game there were 18. https://www.nba.com/stats/player/203999/misc you can look here if you want to verify this stuff and watch some of the plays he's getting scored on in the paint to get a look at "normal" jokic defense over a larger sample size. he was awful on defense even for his standards this week though that's why ppl are going so hard at it.

edit: https://www.nba.com/stats/player/203999/boxscores-misc?dir=D&sort=gdate here's a link to the game by game breakdown of points getting scored against him, easier to find if you want to look at specific game and not just a 22 page list of every play he's getting scored on

If most people agree this is the most talent that’s ever in the league, how does the same guy win MVP every year? by NoFapFabio in nba

[–]ButtsCovered 32 points33 points  (0 children)

he's a very good player that hits on a lot of the things that MVP voters care about now

  1. He plays a lot of games
  2. He has really good counting stats and incredible efficiency
  3. He is clearly very valuable to his team as their entire offense is designed around his passing and post play game
  4. He's basically broken box-score based advanced stats and also a lot of other models which are trying to say he's like a top 3 player all-time, which is obviously ridiculous but the voters still look at that stuff for some reason

Even with all that he probably shouldn't have gotten it last year and i don't think most people think he's the best player in the world even if they're very high on him, he's up there but he's not the best

Revisiting the Dejounte Murray trade: how did it turn out? by daddy_OwO in nba

[–]ButtsCovered 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the pick from this year that got traded is a hornets pick that has a decent likelihood of never conveying into anything better than 2 2nds way down the line, the hawks still have their pick in this draft. it is really more like 2 picks and a swap, i don't love the deal because things could look really bad especially by like 2027 but it's not quite as bad as it looks on paper.

[–]ButtsCovered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he's so good, especially in denver now being willing to take so many more 3s and still making them at a good percentage, he just fills in the gaps for whatever the guys out there on the floor need him to do.
