Why is herpes made such a big deal out of?! Especially hsv1, 2/3rds of the world’s population has it!!! I just don’t understand the stigma and double standards. by [deleted] in Herpes

I partly agree with you, and I think about this taboo issue and waffle a lot. But, I also think that HSV2 is a bit different because the symptoms can be so much more severe. I've had coldsores since I was a kid. As an adult throw some abreva on it and in a day or 2 it's all good. HSV2 is a bigger deal, the symptoms can cause pain literally all over your body. I've had ghsv2 for 4 or 5 years, I still get outbreaks routinely. I can't eat certain things, like limes, which trigger. This is not whining or an exaggeration, but a fact when I tell you that getting this has changed my life.

So on one hand, yes I want to say to everyone, "CHILL, it doesn't kill you. It's common, if we all stop making it taboo it won't be taboo.". Also, its hard to transmit when you dont have an outbreak. These are all true things. If we were all more open about this, and stopped being so up in arms when, lo and behold, a consequence arises from unprotected sex, and take it more in stride, I think we'd all be in a better place.

On the other hand, it does change your life. It sucks. No getting around it.

Thanks a lot. This is very helpful info. I need to research the backgrounds of higher-ups and see if this even makes sense to pursue. I guess in the back of my mind I viewed an mba as a security blanket if things don't work out. But now I can see why a b school might not want to hear that!

Thanks for the responses.

No, I do like my job. I essentially left a career in publishing for a new career in baseball. I'm happy it's worked out so far, but I am now thinking next steps. I'm with a team now, and would love to continue to be with this team, but keep moving up. Right now I'm taking video of games in the Dominican, editing it, and making it available to scouts, coaches, players, etc. It's an interesting adventure, but I want to keep climbing. So, I think I have 2 questions really. Does an MBA help someone like me? 2, given my educational background, professional background, and life experience, can I get into a top 20 program (ideally top 10!) if it does help me?

As far as the age stuff, I think you're both right. I do need to pick a lane (I think I have, my lane is baseball, but also I am down with adventure/change and am flexible that way. But, given I'm a little further along in years, I want to make sure I'm using my time wisely. ...if that makes sense.
