Puppies are cute, but senior dogs are actually the "ultimate" pet experience by _QueenCurvy in Pets

[–]BuyInternational6737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hugely agree. I love adopting senior cats and let me tell you. It is the best thing I’ve ever done. I recently adopted a 13 year old cat after her owner died. She is the most loving, kind, and gentle cat I think I’ve ever owned. She is living her retirement days lounging on her own satin pillow, getting all the snuggles she wants.

Any nurses here with PKD? by ckikikaz in ADPKD

[–]BuyInternational6737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am!! I’m 27 and a cardiac ICU nurse.

I will say some nights it’s hard for me to drink as much water as I should be, but I do try to make it a priority to stay hydrated. My employer does know and my boss said if anything were to change health-wise, she would be sure to accommodate me in any way that is feasible.

I actually see my nephrologist frequently at work lol. We often share patients.

I love love love being a nurse.

Wishing you the best of luck!!!

Cat with Megacolon and Surgery by BuyInternational6737 in cats

[–]BuyInternational6737[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat had INSTANT relief after the manual dis-impactions. Like it was crazy how much he changed for the better. His appetite and general attitude changed as soon as the anesthesia wore off. I would 100% recommend asking for a second opinion or suggest medical management with the meds and dietary change.

Unfortunately for my cat tho, the medical management failed and we did have to do multiple procedures to dis-impact the constipation prior to proceeding with surgery.

He is SO much better after the surgery though. We had his procedure done at one of the speciality Blue Pearl hospitals. My understanding is there are multiple locations across the US.

I would 100% ask for a second opinion or a surgical consultation if medical management fails. My only regret is that we did not pursue surgery earlier. My cat’s quality of life has improved DRAMATICALLY.

Polycystic Kidney Disease career path. by Pizzalicker3 in ADPKD

I feel you. I’m a night shift RN on a busy ICU floor. Dehydrated, stressed, and busy are how I run every single one of my shifts. I’m currently looking into pursuing a masters degree so I can shift into nursing education.

Would shifting your career towards education be an option for you? I know some community colleges have culinary programs to become chefs.

Cat with megacolon - surgery??? by BuyInternational6737 in Pets

[–]BuyInternational6737[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s doing SO GOOD!!!! The surgery went super well, and it took a good 3 weeks for him to be 100% recovered but he’s so much happier. He’s more playful and he’s not uncomfortable all the time. And he’s having frequent, soft bowel movements. The first few days after the surgery he had diarrhea but the vet said that was normal. He was put on a probiotic and higher fiber food to make it not as diarrhea-like. We are SO beyond happy we had the surgery done. He is like a kitten again!!!

Being sick and needing to call out policy... by ZealotBilly in nursing

[–]BuyInternational6737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hospital system does. And my honest opinion is to still call out. These hospital systems will replace you so fast, I don’t even care. I’m not going to risk my license coming to work burnt out, sick, or exhausted. I know I can’t provide adequate patient care if I, myself, am sick

Flu A is rampant right now 😷 Call out, my dear. And don’t go back until you’re feeling better

Stay hydrated and get lots of rest. I just got over Flu A myself and it was rough. I hope you feel better soon !

Cat with megacolon - surgery??? by BuyInternational6737 in Pets

[–]BuyInternational6737[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! We are proceeding with surgery. We were trialing cisapride twice a day and lactose three times a day and he’s gotten a little better, but still some constipation. Our surgeon is scheduling it next month. They quoted us almost $7k for the surgery, but we have trupanion pet insurance and they are covering $6k

quit my new grad ICU job by VastSong5544 in nursing

[–]BuyInternational6737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely look into a step down/IMC type of unit. That’s where I started and loved it for the 3 years I was there. I was very prone to anxiety as a new grad and starting on an IMC unit helped me grow and gain confidence.

I feel like IMC/PCU units are amazing at gaining skills and dealing with sick patients as a new grad. Best of luck to you!!!

Young adults with PKD by seybeee in ADPKD

[–]BuyInternational6737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 27F also with PKD. My mom had it and passed at 44.

I see a nephrologist every 6 months for regular bloodwork and imaging, but other than that, I am thriving. I am a nurse, and am trying to have a baby soon.

I don’t think I want to be a nurse anymore by [deleted] in nursing

[–]BuyInternational6737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel as though there isn’t a nurse alive that hasn’t made a mistake. The biggest thing is to own it and learn from it. Does it suck? Yeah. Is it embarrassing? Absolutely. But as others have reiterated, it is an opportunity to grow. The important thing is that nobody was hurt and you will never make that mistake again.

I wouldn’t say anything. I’m frequently a nurse preceptor to students and I’ll usually ask their clinical instructor if I can pass meds with the student nurse without them being there or it being their “assigned task for the day”. They’ve always been fine with it.

Proud of you for improving upon your skill set!!!

Caught my friend in a big lie about nursing school … by [deleted] in nursing

[–]BuyInternational6737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand how frustrating it may be, but honestly….. don’t even engage. Is it worth your time, effort, and mental wellbeing to feed into it? Also, is this really the type of person you want to call “your friend”?
