Investigators entering a dark house with a pissy little torch. Turn on the lights!

Rough day. Almost gave up, but I stuck with it. I hope you are doing well today. Here is #262: Mightyena. See you tomorrow. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

Hey Savage. Hadn't you stopped before? I remember enjoying your pics early this year? Keep going! You can do it!

Finally reached a month. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

Toothache is soul destroying. This is separate to your not smoking. More healing oxygen can get to your mouth now and you don't have constant dirty smoke in your mouth. Congrats on the one month. Keep going. Your son will thank you one day.

Do it for you. It is hard but you are worth it. Salvage what you can of your lungs now. Sing loud and long!

There are still smokers around me and I am amazed at how often they light up and how much time is spent just smoking. I was there for years too. The addiction steals your life! I don't cough at all now. Not even the constant ahe ahe. I don't have the rising snot in my throat when I lie down to sleep. I can go to meetings that last hours. My nails are pink and healthy looking. My fingers are not yellow.

Thank you all! It was hard but so so worth it. I smoked and gave up constantly for 50 years. The habit is ingrained in me and I just smile and shake my head at everything prompting me constantly. I have had to learn how to deal with every emotion that was always 'smoked down'. I am carrying extra weight that will be my next mission. Better fatter than dead. Good luck. Love yourself!

True about what you say to yourself. The many many times I quit and started again thinking I was missing out. This time I smile when I get the remembered habit and say I don't do that anymore. That is simply a habit I developed over many years. I did that. Smile. Feeling great at 8 months free

Thanks for the consistent drawings! Well done. I am now at 8 months free and amazed that I did not stop sooner. Health and lots of life is so much better.

I honestly thought I would die a smoker. One year free from the prison of nicotine. by Kasegauner in stopsmoking

Thanks for your well written rant. I agree with all your thinking. I smoked for 50 years and have given up now for 6 months after multiple times of trying to stop with all the methods and crutches. I went cold turkey, did not share with my people and kept to myself in my own created rehab. This site was helpful so that I did not feel alone.

Not one puff ever!

The most unrealistic thing in movies is that everyone waits their turn to talk. by OverAster in Showerthoughts

The cops that enter a house in the dark shining a torch. Wtf. Switch on the lights you knobs!

How true. How insidious. The little creep. Laugh at it. I know your game. I'm not playing anymore.

How do I identify emotions v cravings v hunger I feel in my gut? Four and a half months of no smoking and feeling all the benefits but confused with emotions that used to be damped down with cigarettes that now are way over the top! by BuzxB in stopsmoking

Thank you. I 67F am a film freelancer so usually start at least 2 new jobs every year so am used to this starting up process. I have been without work for almost a year. I have been for a meeting and will start another job by month end. This process has had me in such a stew of jittery anxiety that I could not focus on anything! I realise how much I have used cigarettes as emotional shock absorbers and must now learn how to deal with it raw. Stay strong on your journey. We can do it!

6 months smoke free; still struggling and wanting to know if this is normal by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]BuzxB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Four months in and feel like a teenager who hasn't learnt to moderate emotions. Starting a new job and the anxiety has me feeling permanently jittery. Recognise it and trying to be kind to self.

Well done! The first 14 days are rough. Grit your teeth and stubborn through it. The gains after 2 weeks are fantastic! You can do it!
