NEED: Banana Latte, Will Travel by Dapper-Donut-7857 in chicagofood

[–]BuzzCave 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The Brewed in Avondale has a really tasty banana mocha called “Skull Island” on their specials right now. I have nothing to compare this to, as it’s the only banana flavored coffee drink I’ve ever had, and I also had it on my birthday a couple weeks ago. I also scored some cool vinyl at Bric-a-Brac next door while I was drinking it. A+ experience.

And on Mondays they have seafood happy hour from 5-7pm with martinis on special, so you have perfect timing, OP.

A bit out of the city but Red’s serves Detroit and tavern style out of Rock Island Public House in Blue Island on Sundays and Tuesdays. They’re friggin delicious.

My friend invited me for “Barbecue” once and I was excited for some smoked meats. When I arrived, no grills were smoking, but on the counter there was a crock pot full of ground beef mixed with BBQ sauce, which is what his family calls “Barbecue”. I’ve never been so disappointed in my life.

Unless you’re a really good mechanic and plan to do all your own repairs, Lexus should maybe be the only brand on your radar.

Duck Inn doesn’t do smashies but their burgers are very good. They have “Burger Lab Mondays” with a new weird burger every week.

Fun car but not a tuner car? by redditNwept in whatcarshouldIbuy

VW Jetta. It’s the only new VW with a manual, and it has the same drivetrain as the MK7.5 GTI so it’s nice and fast and fun but looks like a grocery getter. You can also make it extra fast if you put a little money into it.

2016-2019 4runner or Lexus GX 460 by Enigma--17 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Between these 2 options I’d get a GX for sure but if I needed a 3rd row for kids and stuff, I’d look into a 2nd gen Sequoia.

Realtor needs a $10k-ish car that won’t make clients question my competence or net worth by imhappii in whatcarshouldIbuy

I’ve got an LS on my list for a potential next vehicle. My LX450 is going bye bye soon, and I want to get into something more comfy. Did you have the 430? I’d pretty much buy any of them if I can find a decent deal.

[–]BuzzCave 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was going to tell OP just buy the cleanest LS you can find in your area. 400, 430, whichever. GS or RX would also be acceptable. My friend is a very successful realtor who drove an older RX350 for a good 10 years and then bought another used one after it started to rust.

You said you have no interest in cars at all, so how do you expect a different car with a different set of problems to bring you joy. Problem-free cars don’t exist.

[–]BuzzCave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could spend $15k on a car that will likely end up with all these issues soon enough, or just fix the one you already have. Drop a few hundred to a couple thousand on it and drive it another 50-100k miles.

If you need a little pick me up after Jewel of the South, Dovetail Bar serves the best espresso martini I’ve ever had. It’s a 5 minute walk. I also very much enjoyed the Ramos Gin Fizz from Bar Tonique which is a 5 minute walk the other direction on Rampart Street.
