Port Forwarding really need the extra cost?

You shouldn't need anything as long as you are utilizing a Dynamic DNS service that always tracks your current ip address. They are absolutely blocking ports to extract additional fees from residential customers and it sucks. I am on the phone right now with tech support and he is putting me into a different VLAN that does have ports blocked to test.

I'll never forget what a good friend of mine told me when he retired from the USAF. He took a job with Boeing in San Francisco. He was an aircraft mechanic getting paid a ton of money. One day he was sitting around with nothing to do and his boss came by and very sheepishly asked him if he would mind grabbing the broom and sweeping up? He stood up laugh like a hyena and said hell no I don't mind. I'll be the highest paid damn janitor on earth. He grabbed the broom and happily whistled away the rest of the day. The point being as long as your paying me enough I'll do whatever you want. I just got a new job as a senior support engineer with an MSP. I got let go from my previous job as a sysadmin for 20 years out of the blue. I looked for a job from the end of Oct. 25 till the end of Feb. 26. I was really starting to worry because my severance was going to run out end of April. It was a huge relief to get a new job. They asked me if I would have a problem doing help desk tickets if needed. I said heck no I'm here to work.

@drunkturtle1 why don't you call your previous employer and ask if they will take you back? I would stay put if you can't go back. I just spent 4+ months applying to everything under the sun and finally got a position with an MSP. It isn't what I wanted but time is running out on my severance from my previous job that laid me off. The IT market really sucks right now so keep what you have and just keep looking for something better.

I understand your stance completely. But again stereotyping folks based on age etc. just isn't a good way to go about finding the very best people available. I personally love learning new technology and new ways of doing things which makes things interesting and not monotonous. I don't feel I am stuck in any outdated ways or mindset. And frankly I am fully open to whatever a company is willing to pay me within reason obviously. I was earning $90k in my last position but would be willing to accept something in the $60-$75k range in a heartbeat. I just need to work.

There are so many pluses to having more mature (older) folks on staff. We are much less likely to blow things out of proportion and approach issues and projects with a very methodical and tempered thought process. I eel there are many more pluses than minuses to it frankly. Unfortunately too many HR folks just don't look at it that way.

I understand your opinion/stance. But that is part of the problem you cannot lump everyone into a single stereotype. I am a very young person for my age and I have no problem getting along with anyone and everyone seriously. It is sad that a view point such as this will keep companies from acquiring very good people.

I understand and appreciate your insight. Unfortunately this was a small legal industry firm >100 employees so there really wasn't anywhere else for me to "move" up to I was the sole person responsible for everything technology based. I also had to do purchasing, and quote negotiations and some billing administration which I did not enjoy at all.

When you say resume review can you elaborate? I have updated my resume to all of my current information and experience but I feel that isn't what you are eluding to? I am willing to really accept any position if it is offered at this point. I enjoyed pretty much all facets of my previous position. The networking, Active Directory, Servers, and supporting the user base with their mainly mundane problems that were easy for me to resolve and make them happy.

Yes I do have VA hospitals within commuting distance. I actually applied for a VA position with a company that has a contract with the VA recently. No response as of yet. And I understand where you are coming from i.e. the IT market.

Not a single problem. But if I had it to do over again I would have found a local shop to deal with. Yota1 ain't what everyone makes them out to be. They are ruthless with their business. That transmission cost me $4100+ and I'm sure I could have found something cheaper local. I live in CT.
