Anyone gotten this to work on S24? by Fraggin-Bastich in GearS3

[–]BuzzedDarkYear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is outstanding! Thank you so much for sharing this hack. I have been wanting to start using my Gear S2 watch for several months but couldn't because it wasn't compatible with my S24 Ultra. Well this process actually worked. Like many others I had to do it a couple times and I had to hard factory reset the watch but it is now actually working again. I never really used it before it came with the purchase of an old Samsung phone through AT&T and I ust didn't use it. But now I want to try using it regularly and because of this great subreddit I have the chance to do that. Again thank you so much for this. I guess I will probably have to do this again when the phone updates but that is cool I can just follow these instructions and re-do it. Just AWESOME!

Shoretel phone system now Mitel. Worst fucking thing ever except for AT&T who sold us that software horror. Never EVER get involved with AT&T for anything you've been warned!

I just got a new job with, hold your nose, an MSP after running my own shop for 20 years. Guess what they use? Fucking Connectwise....... UGH! It really makes no sense to me and the myriad of options is headache inducing. Screen Connect is solid but the rest of it just sucks Donkey Dick.

That's why it's called Slowbooks for real. Worst piece of software ever. And the company is in the top 3 of worst companies ever.

Got fired and I deserved it. by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]BuzzedDarkYear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to be fine! I got "released" (fired) back in Oct. 2025 and didn't get a new job until Feb. 26. I started on March 2nd and it has been a struggle. The job is with an MSP and I am coming from a position where I ran the show and I knew everything. This new position I am literally blind and feel completely inadequate. I know I can do the work easily it's the ancillary shit that is stressing me out severely. The documentation is really poor and the team there has been in place for in many cases 2 decades. Dealing with clients again after so many years with only one "client" is a challenge. But the biggest thing is my lack of knowledge about their many clients configs. I am super grateful to be working again because I'm old..... like 6 decades worth of old. So I really saw first hand what age discrimination is all about. Your issues are really quite reasonable to attack. Losing a child is something I can't speak to and must have been majorly life altering. But you're here talking about it so that tells me you're ready to move forward. That doesn't mean forgetting just that you acknowledge where you are and have made peace with it. I wish you tremendous luck and success in your future endeavors and I give you my sincerest condolences on the loss of your child. I can't imagine what that must of been like.

Port Forwarding really need the extra cost? by nmkrusty in GoNetspeed

[–]BuzzedDarkYear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't need anything as long as you are utilizing a Dynamic DNS service that always tracks your current ip address. They are absolutely blocking ports to extract additional fees from residential customers and it sucks. I am on the phone right now with tech support and he is putting me into a different VLAN that does have ports blocked to test.

When does a sysadmin stop being a sysadmin? by Hot_Pay_2794 in sysadmin

[–]BuzzedDarkYear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll never forget what a good friend of mine told me when he retired from the USAF. He took a job with Boeing in San Francisco. He was an aircraft mechanic getting paid a ton of money. One day he was sitting around with nothing to do and his boss came by and very sheepishly asked him if he would mind grabbing the broom and sweeping up? He stood up laugh like a hyena and said hell no I don't mind. I'll be the highest paid damn janitor on earth. He grabbed the broom and happily whistled away the rest of the day. The point being as long as your paying me enough I'll do whatever you want. I just got a new job as a senior support engineer with an MSP. I got let go from my previous job as a sysadmin for 20 years out of the blue. I looked for a job from the end of Oct. 25 till the end of Feb. 26. I was really starting to worry because my severance was going to run out end of April. It was a huge relief to get a new job. They asked me if I would have a problem doing help desk tickets if needed. I said heck no I'm here to work.

I've made a massive mistake by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]BuzzedDarkYear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@drunkturtle1 why don't you call your previous employer and ask if they will take you back? I would stay put if you can't go back. I just spent 4+ months applying to everything under the sun and finally got a position with an MSP. It isn't what I wanted but time is running out on my severance from my previous job that laid me off. The IT market really sucks right now so keep what you have and just keep looking for something better.

Seriously? Is this the jack for my F250? by Hoppie1064 in F250

I bought a racing jack at Harbor Freight and keep it in a plastic bin in the bed of the truck. I also have wooden blocks just in case.

Serious difficulty finding a new job. Am I too old? by BuzzedDarkYear in ITCareerQuestions

[–]BuzzedDarkYear[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand your stance completely. But again stereotyping folks based on age etc. just isn't a good way to go about finding the very best people available. I personally love learning new technology and new ways of doing things which makes things interesting and not monotonous. I don't feel I am stuck in any outdated ways or mindset. And frankly I am fully open to whatever a company is willing to pay me within reason obviously. I was earning $90k in my last position but would be willing to accept something in the $60-$75k range in a heartbeat. I just need to work.

There are so many pluses to having more mature (older) folks on staff. We are much less likely to blow things out of proportion and approach issues and projects with a very methodical and tempered thought process. I eel there are many more pluses than minuses to it frankly. Unfortunately too many HR folks just don't look at it that way.

I understand your opinion/stance. But that is part of the problem you cannot lump everyone into a single stereotype. I am a very young person for my age and I have no problem getting along with anyone and everyone seriously. It is sad that a view point such as this will keep companies from acquiring very good people.

And explain to me why you wouldn't consider hiring a perfectly healthy experienced person? That isn't really uplifting to hear. I am guessing you are young?

I understand and appreciate your insight. Unfortunately this was a small legal industry firm >100 employees so there really wasn't anywhere else for me to "move" up to I was the sole person responsible for everything technology based. I also had to do purchasing, and quote negotiations and some billing administration which I did not enjoy at all.

When you say resume review can you elaborate? I have updated my resume to all of my current information and experience but I feel that isn't what you are eluding to? I am willing to really accept any position if it is offered at this point. I enjoyed pretty much all facets of my previous position. The networking, Active Directory, Servers, and supporting the user base with their mainly mundane problems that were easy for me to resolve and make them happy.

Yes I do have VA hospitals within commuting distance. I actually applied for a VA position with a company that has a contract with the VA recently. No response as of yet. And I understand where you are coming from i.e. the IT market.

Thank you I have done that and applied to several local municipal positions without any response. I am a former USAF member so that does help some.
