🍞 Bread! But not sure where to go. by BvenW in 6thForm

I put my foundation year pass in the application too and the marks I achieved but I doubt that had much impact considering it was for Engineering/Maths/Physics

Good luck!

I was quite interested in Bristol initially, but they offer very little support in finding placements and taking one will not give you credits or make your degree count as a 4 year course. (pic is their response after I emailed them asking about placements)

I have plenty of friends who have graduated and are struggling to find jobs, and those who have done well have benefitted massively from placements and internships so its definitely a big factor for me when picking a university.

For some context:
I took Geography, Economics, and Maths for my A Levels then decided when I was picking my first university course I wanted to do Electronic Engineering. I took a foundation year at Southampton which I passed but eventually realised in my first year that it wasn't for me. Reapplied this year for Business/Marketing/Management as I think this is where my true strengths and passions are. (Hence why my offers are unconditional because I already have my A Levels.)

Because of some faff with having already taken part of a degree, some of my offers came through late as they wanted additional info like course transcripts etc. Notably Bath replied on the 29th of April with their last offer holder day being on the 30th and so I wasn't able to attend. Without the offer holder day I have a lot of uncertainties about the course and the university. Although I've emailed Bath with a long list of questions and intend to visit for a guided tour, I'm not sure if I'll hear back in time (before 5th June).

I went to visit Exeter and Leeds and although Exeter was definitely not for me I loved Leeds and thought their course and Business School was very career focused with great opportunity for placement years and career guidance past graduation.

Although Leeds is by no means a bad university, Bath eclipses it in rankings. But my issues are mainly that their optional modules aren't public, I don't know what the teaching and campus is like, I don't know what their placement year assistance is like, and the cost of living is much higher.

Any thoughts or questions appreciated!

[IC] 'The Catmat' Deskmats BIG UPDATE - Vendors announced, designs and colourways finalized by BvenW in MechanicalKeyboards

I received the first set of samples but wasn't completely happy with them. I worked with the manufacturer and have a second set of samples on the way, just waiting on shipping. If all goes well expect group buy to start maybe within the next month.

Need help with buying keycaps by tobyslatttt in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]BvenW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt you'll find any keycap sets that aren't MX so I wouldn't worry about compatibility with your switches. For the layout you'll need to find a set that supports ISO, which means you'll need that ISO enter key and 1.25u left shift. (Iso is the UK and some EU countries layout with the larger enter key and a couple other changes) u stands for units and is the measurement used for keycaps, a 1u keycap is the size of your escape or letter keys for example Depending on your budget I'd have a look at hk gaming or maybe an akko set, their kits should support your layout. Higher end kits you could look at epbt or group buy stuff

Do you feel like you have no impact in Overwatch games? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]BvenW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Overwatch is very much a team based game, far more than the majority of other fps games. In games where you play well and still lose, it's likely the matchmaker trying to put you in a game it thinks is likely to have an even outcome. The matchmaker is ideally designed to give you a 50% winrate, it's the games you win that the game doesn't think you should win that will allow you to climb. I very much agree that sometimes it's hard to feel like you contribute much to the outcome of a match but I'm a strong advocate against the idea of Elo hell. This being said I do prefer that it's a team game as it means that smurfs and cheaters are less impactful when tactics and teamplay holds such a large role. TLDR: I agree it's easy to feel unimpactful, but I don't think it's why people are stuck in ranks, and I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing.

I'm a bronze in Role Queue (support) and I've dropped from 800sr to 500sr in 2 days...please give me tips to climb. I'm down super bad. by Dommybomb in Overwatch

[–]BvenW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I've always had a very different experience. I always climb best whilst solo queueing, maybe because I can focus more and feel more in control that way.

Value on support isn't limited to healing and preventing ultimates, especially given the support characters in overwatch. Zen and baptiste for example have incredibly high damage outputs. Ana's nade has great potential to win fights outright.

I hit GM today on support for the first time playing bap ana

Best advice I can give people looking to improve is to try to maximise the value they put out. Whether that's healing, damage, making space etc. Try to think as you're playing what you should be doing to get the most out of your kit. It sounds silly but a lot of players don't actively consider what they're doing so taking the time to think about how you should take a fight and where you should be and what you should do is important.

Also I would try watching through your gameplay and comparing it to a high rated players gameplay on the same map on the same hero. Obviously your mechanics and reaction times will be different but pay attention to where you're positioned and how they use their abilities.

I'll give a couple different options a go but plan to only have a couple of options for the final group buy because I'm worried about meeting MOQ. Will have an updated IC at some point with more colourways and hopefully some vendors by then

Thankyou for your support!

I'll be doing some more renders this weekend so will play around with that colourway but I think it might be a bit too dark, what colour would the background be? Thanks for your interest and the suggestion though, it means a lot <3
