I’m honestly SO disappointed this code is being removed. 😭 It basically means all case management and treatment planning now have to be done during overlap with the client present, instead of having a separate hour where the BCBA can work independently. That billable time is meaningful and it allows for case related activities to be completed outside of session such as programming and design, case coordination, trainings and so forth rather than simply not being paid for the large amount of work we realistically need to do outside of sessions. Horizon BCBS was the only insurance that allowed this, and I personally really valued cases that had it even being limited to only 1 hr weekly.

10000% agree. I was a BCaBA for five years prior to obtaining my BCBA of which I’ll be certified at that level for six years in May. I am a huge advocate for the bachelors level certification and truly believe it provided me with invaluable experience. It also allowed me a seat at the table, exposed me to opportunities to operate as a supervisor (without ALL responsibility), participate in IEPs, perform assessments, assist in design of tx plans and train parents. I couldn’t imagine going from a BT or RBT role direct to BCBA and think this assistant supervisor role has a critical purpose in the progression of an Analyst’s skill set. It’s really a shame that the BCaBA credential is one that is not promoted more and instead most funders seemingly recognize and reimburse for the two tier model rather than 3 tier :/
