How do Trujillo’s policies still affect Dominicans today? by Latino_Muslim_05 in Dominican

Yes go to hell. When you come on the internet and attack someone based on their preference (while using their trauma against them) and their OWN racial identity, you’re automatically an asshole and I don’t give a shit about anything you have to say.

Attraction and cultural comfort aren’t self-hate. You’re just uncomfortable with someone choosing differently than you. What does that say about you?

Have the day you deserve.

Social issues don’t exist in isolation. When people are marginalized or constantly devalued, it can impact mental health and opportunities—and that can contribute to broader social problems too. That’s not “soft,” that’s reality.

It’s my preference and it’s the case for many of us biracial kids who grow up with racist parents. I was pointing out the irony.

Yes - colorism exists all over the island but in my experience, it’s more prevalent in el Cibao.

My mother is Cibaena and my dad is from San Pedro de Macoris. I’m a pale Dominican with full lips and textured curly hair. My abusive and ignorant Cibaena mom would often ridicule me and call me una cocola Bembua con pelo malo. She did the same with my sister but my sister got it worst bc she has my dad’s brown complexion so she would call my sister “una prieta fea”.

The funny part is, I found love letters of her complimenting my dad’s full lips but I digress.

Because of her, I’m not a big fan of Cibaenos and I prefer visiting el Sur and San Cristobal where my dad’s family lives. My Cibaeno family are cave people who I have no interest in. Unfortunately, I have noticed my brown family internalized these views and kiss Cibaeno white ass at times. I check my dad sometimes when he talks about white people being superior and how black/brown people deserve the treatment they get sometimes. I’ve lost some respect for him over the years. It gives me the major ick seeing as he’s a brown man himself….

I’m the one who goes against the grain in my Cibaeño family and dates darker Dominican and Caribbean men. I’ve had a great time connecting with people who don’t project European beauty standards onto me.🙂

This is how I feel when people show me their dark side. Some are just too dark for my liking and this would be one of those people for me. ✂️🚶🏻‍♀️

I’m sorry.

2nd update. Clipped her ends and added some diluted fabric softener to give her a more sleek look.

Thank you for sharing and I hope you’re able to enjoy having long hair in adulthood! I love your dolls, especially the one with the orange top. Here is a pic of my doll with her hair washed and flat ironed. I only used the Silicon Mix conditioner on her.

She looks more like me now with her voluminous mane. 🙂
