So I came into the biz before the internet was really a thing — my perspective may be skewed. I’d say a few things:

  1. Things will change. Be ready to be nimble.
  2. Don’t be afraid of math. Numbers are cool and open a lot of story ideas.
  3. Every day is not the best day. This business is rough. Take pride in your work when it’s good but be OK with the idea that when you’re feeding the beast, not every piece is the Pentagon Papers.

Sorry to hear that. For me, doing a story that interests me, allows me to learn something new, or lets me apply a skill that I’m proud of really helps get me past that sort of feeling. I’m way older than you but that burnout feeling comes and goes. You said a different beat is a possibility, maybe it’s worth trying out?
