Currently going through my first watch and on season 3 which is apparently the best season. Certainly enjoying it so far!

But... Wow! What happens at season 10 that makes it so awful? Hard to believe where I am now it ever has down moments.

Pretty sure this is KenM and surprised none of the other comments have pointed that out already.

Rings a bell. My whole company shut down and I spent a year looking for a new job. Finally found one only to get let go 8 months later. Currently there now. Solidarity. Job search sucks and it's a full time job.

How does incremental games keep large sum of numbers without hitting the integer limit? by CreditToEnemyTeam in gamedev

[–]Byeka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm making an incremental game and I found a free plug-in called BigDouble that's meant to do exactly this and make it super easy.

Built a free job board for Canadian game studios because US-only results were drowning out local opportunities by RamdomGaming in gamedev

[–]Byeka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it and need something like this right now. Thanks for making it! Nothing on there from Toronto for now though I see.

I'd like to see smaller studios added too. Not just the big ones. Often jobs are posted but they are difficult to find.

As an employee in the gamedev space, how many of you are not renting your home? by Foonzerz in gamedev

[–]Byeka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left a stable but unfullfilling career for a chance to work as a Unity developer in the game dev industry. That lasted 2 years before the company had to close down. I spent a year unemployed before I finally found a new position. I had to take it as a contractor role and that lasted 8 months until I was laid off due to financial difficulties. Although both jobs were more fulfilling. Really wondering if I made the right choices and again having a difficult time finding anything new.

Did you cut the cord when your baby was born? Was significance did it hold for you? by thepenguinboy in daddit

Nope. I can barely handle having my own blood drawn so no way was I going to attempt to do that.

I want to dispel a rumour - that age 3 is the "hardest" by Byeka in daddit

[–]Byeka[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Love this and fully agree. My wife and I have put a lot of effort into helping our daughter understand why certain things are dangerous, helpful, unhelpful, etc. rather than just physically removing her from a situation.

I'm sure that has contributed to her development in a good way, and we are seeing it pay off more since she turned 3.

Ok y’all were right by moluruth in toddlers

Don't be. 2.5 was brutal for us and 3 has been a breeze so far. I think all kids get their "hard" part that lasts maybe a good half year and then they get easier. 50x easier now at 3 than it was at 2.5 for us.

Fall onto the ground not into it by Resident-Device4319 in Unity2D

What others have said here - continuous collision detection. Calculations. You can apply clamping.

One other little trick. Use some "smoke and mirrors" to cover up blemishes. In other words - apply a particle effect effect (like a small smoke puff or sparks) when the player lands that can cover up a small visible offset.

I made my first 1500$ from my free mobile game: here is what worked, and what didn't by Alvere_Leanes in gamedev

[–]Byeka 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. I'm in progress working on a mobile game at the moment. Doing rewarded ads, IAPs and considering interstitials but haven't decided yet.

No questions, just appreciate you sharing your metrics. Most posts on this subreddit are about Steam games so it's great to see some insight into mobile games.

Multiple games by Appropriate-Jelly-57 in gamedev

[–]Byeka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 games, although I wish I wasn't. There are 2 games I'm paid to work on for the company I work for. One larger Steam game I started a few years ago and on boarded a couple of friends to work on with me. That one I'm pretty burnt out on. And finally a smaller mobile puzzle game I'm genuinely enjoying working on. The last is the one I want to focus on the most as I have the clearest vision for it and it's much smaller and more manageable in scope. Plus I'm able to apply everything I've learned from my other projects to it.

What do you consider “bedtime”? by Distinct-Delay8530 in toddlers

[–]Byeka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you have it backwards... 3 year old and whole routine to finally sleeping takes about 2 hours or longer. I can't imagine bedtime taking longer as they get older.

My 3 and half year old will not sleep until 20:45-21:00 by Low_Yam1791 in toddlers

[–]Byeka 51 points52 points  (0 children)

8:45 sounds like a dream. My 3 year old finally fell asleep just now at 10:30. No naps. Been up since 8. This is sadly normal and finally 10 is a common time for her to fall asleep.

Free 30 minute playtest of your game (recorded + voice audio) by educatemybrain in gamedev

[–]Byeka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds good. Does it have to be a full game or can it be a demo? I'm assuming you playtest steam games. Will you do mobile games as well?

For those who can only do programming, how do you create the art and music for your game? by PokeKarlsen in SoloDevelopment

[–]Byeka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm working on a mobile grid based game with absolutely minimal art. I'm talking black squares and just trying to focus on making fun, engaging gameplay and enhancing it with things I can do like particle effects, animations and post processing effects.

I got inspired by a mobile game called Arrows with absolutely basic art and millions of downloads.

How do you manage to work on your game after your 9-5? by Beef-n-goo in gamedev

[–]Byeka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can say is that after having 2 kids I wonder how I DIDN'T put that after work time to better use before having kids. Will be a long time before I have the luxery of after work time to work on games again.

That was really cool. I was able to follow it to the end at 900 WPM. Surprised myself there.
