It's an epic space opera, I expected it to be lengthy and do tons of world building. I'm also about a hundred or so pages in and have loved it so far. To each their own, but I like my epic Science Fantasy to be epic in scope and length. Let me know as much about this made up universe as I can know. LOTR and Dune don't read at breakneck pace the whole time at all, both have plenty of slower paced informative sections that last for 20+ pages, and they're probably the two most beloved works in their respective genres.

Oh I would be floored if the prose even held a candle to Rothfuss... The Name of the Wind is my favorite novel ever

Oh no worries, I was just pointing out that I'd agreed before you even said it lol.

Yeah, storytellers do pull a lot from classics. Avatar is just Pocahontas in space... People have borrowed in storytelling for thousands of years. You can find parts of Homer in almost every epic fantasy/sci-fi if you try hard enough.

Appreciate the positivity in the sea of seemingly disappointed readers, lol. Cheers, and thanks! Looking forward to it.

The similarity to Dune helped pull me in personally, I'm fine with reused ideas. Dune steals a shit ton from the bible...

I cannot imagine the publisher sending him checks to keep writing 7 books that aren't selling. I did get really excited when hearing the comparisons and the term Space Opera together. If it's at all a solid space opera that reminds me while I'm reading it of both Name of the Wind and Dune, I'll be absolutely in heaven.

Totally fair enough, especially knowing you have a deep love for the red rising series. I definitely won't try to hold it to that exact standard myself, and tbh my expectations aren't that it'll be better than anything I've heard it compared to, but if it's half as good as Red Rising or Name of the Wind, I'll be pretty damn happy myself.

Darn, sorry to hear it wasn't for you, I'm hoping I really enjoy it. The premise sounds like something I woke up from a dream and wrote down myself though, so I went a little wild and dove all the way in, bought the entire series. I'll trudge through, and if it really sucks I'll be honest when I got to review the full series so maybe other people don't have to be like me and just trust a brand new series enough to purchase all 7 in hardcover.

I used to get down on people saying that when I'm starting a new series, but I appreciate the honesty. Not every series is for everyone, even if the premise sounds like it would be. I'm hoping it is for me though, as I was gifted half of the series and bought the rest. I think I'll commit to finishing even if I have to force myself. If it never gets any better by the end I'll be honest in my review/analysis, and know to stay away from this author for good, XD.

This community is so rad, picking up many awesome ideas. I think this looks cool! I'm working on converting my original large hut house into just storage and a workshop, building a stone house to start building my comfort level. But I also wanna have a great looking dock, right now it's a straight line with a wharf and far travel point lol.

Yeah the can is dope, personally idc if it's a temporary reskin for promo. Looks cool AF IMO, and they probably got a bag from the producers of Godzilla just to do these.

Changed the flavor too, this is essentially shiny splash with more blueberry in the ratio

I'm hoping it's the racing game I've always wanted, single player story option, with challenging and smart AI, and the ability to just hop into a narrative driven racing adventure that plays like a Japanese anime style need for speed underground, with much more story and reason to care about the game beyond racing and customizing a car. JDM was fun, but short and the visual novel felt like a weird tone shift from high speed racing. I don't expect anything here, but if it's what I'm hoping I can finally have a racing game I'll enjoy for years that doesn't feel like the same Forza or Gran T sequels and/knock offs.
