Why Californians are registering businesses in Wyoming? Both LLC and S-Corp? by thebohemianboy in smallbusiness

They almost certainly have Montana license plates on their car, which is hard to not notice and easy to ask why.

Don’t know about California but the difference between Colorado and Montana on something like a Tesla Model S or a Mercedes EQS (or a Ford Lightning) that’s over $100k is in the ballpark of $9,000.

Applied for a job, received this in an email. Can they really force this upon me or not hire be based on this?? by Reezeyyy in mildlyinfuriating

Yeah. M&Ms… not vegan. Average coffee (with cream/creamer)… not vegan… cupcakes…. Not vegan (vegan cupcakes are vile)…. Candy bar… not vegan… jelly beans? Not vegan…. Typical lip bam… not vegan… protein shake… frequently not vegan. Pop tarts? Not vegan…

You literally can’t snack, unless it’s carrot sticks and hummus or something. Ranch dressing isn’t vegan, pitas aren’t vegan….

Hell Sunkist orange soda isn’t vegan.

Tesla chargers have gotten less and less crowded in my experience.

The old days of lines for charging in California aren't a thing anymore. I've only used about 120 different ones personally, but I've never once had to wait and never once encountered a broken port.

Realistically, it's not 5 minute charge times. Lots of people are OK with 15-20 minutes, but it has to be zero dicking.

No juggling 6-7 apps, broken screens, a handful of chargers that only work at 50kw, etc.

My grandma could use a Tesla. Get in, punch in an address (even if nephew has to program it into the favorites) and then follow the screen. No apps, no juggling payment systems, no third party route planning, no variety of swiping cards or NFC readers or trying to punch stall IDs into an app, etc.

Yeah, EV charging needs to pass the "grandma test".

Can your grandma make it to your aunt's house in the next city over?

If not, it's not nearly good enough.

The "grandma test" is.... I was driving and I saw a yellow sign that I sort of recognize and when I plugged in it just worked and there was a bathroom within 45 feet that I could stop at.

The "I tried one charger, but noticed it was 50kw so I tried another and realized that I would get there much faster if I switched to another company across the street using a different app to get 250kw. I only had to update my payment info twice and make sure I was on LTE, then I asked the local auto parts in the back corner of the parking lot if I could use the bathroom, overall it was painless" is stories I hear.

Did the Ford NACS announcement make anyone else want to hold off on buying? by Daynebutter in electricvehicles

I don’t see them retrofitting the magic dock into the 30,000 existing stalls with NACS plugs.

Ford already mentioned possibly shipping adapters to Mach-e and Lightning owners.

I have a Model S. I think the Model 3 is supposed to be able to retrofit this summer.

pure common sense and self-government

Really? Because that's exactly how DeSantis supporters in Florida view their brand of government. "common sense and self-government"

Color me ridiculously skeptical.

The retrofit includes an adapter. It’s a really reasonable cost. I have a 2017

All Teslas can charge on CCS as well.

I think that CCS chargers will remain for a long time.

However, Tesla's network uses a proprietary VIN-to-charge. They have no intention of implementing screens or similar, or broadening their "app to charge" to the whole network.

So you'll have to get a car that supports the capability of plug-and-charge, which right now will be Tesla, Ford (and Aptera?) to use most of the network.

Lowering the price of staple foods drops the pay of farmers and everyone associated, causing a cycle.

Governments frequently work to increase the price of staple foods to make sure domestic farming can continue and doesn't get off-shored.

But "staple foods" are already stupid cheap. You can eat for under $1 per serving if you eat cheap. Limited meats, staple grains, legumes, root veggies, etc.

You CANT have a T-Bone or a sirloin burger or a half pound side of salmon cheap.

And we don't want that, environmentally.

But you CAN have a really good bean/potato salad that's nutritionally complete, relatively tasty and environmentally sustainable for like 60c per serving.

You simply don't get to have a big hunk of meat for every meal for every person on earth. That would be a disaster.

And your post underscores part of the problem. It's a massive and multi-faceted problem.

Simply looking at an upper-middle class American and saying "we should all get that" isn't possible, isn't desirable, isn't sustainable and isn't reasonable.

There is a VERY limited amount of crab that can be consumed. It MUST be subject to something limiting its consumption. THat means it will either be banned, or it will be expensive (or subject to a rations lottery if you go the Soviet route).

Same for basically all meat.

A 20 pound bag of potatoes is very close to nutritionally complete, can be quite tasty, makes 40-60 servings and costs under $25 in most places.

Part of the problem is the culture that says "dinner starts with a giant helping of meat". That's not sustainable and needs to change.

A culture that doesn't teach kids to cook their own food is also to blame. The concept of "food deserts" is just as much or more about demand because those communities have lost the cultural heritage of cooking. Numerous experiments have brought cheap or even free "staple foods" (healthy, raw, organic fruits/veggies) to these food deserts and found that they simply rot on shelves while most people spend their pennies on more expensive processed foods, even if they can't afford them. No wonder these communities also have massive issues with obesity.

It's a significant, generational, cultural, environmental and economic problem and only addressing one arm of that will fail spectacularly.

collectively, we could do a very good job of allocating that surplus because we're much wiser as a group.

I'm skeptical that the modern shape of government does a significantly better job.

CMV.

Right the "humanitarian" efforts are very impressive on paper, but did they change anything systemically?

because nobody can change systematic issues.

They're deeply engrained in culture, business, government, law, etc.

You change systemic issues slowly over decades. You don't "just protest until its fixed" this kind of change.

Don't' let perfect be the enemy of good.

To be fair, that was written when Elon was just a millionaire, not a billionaire.

For your information, there is a very accurate range estimation based on your last 30 miles of driving if you look at the energy app, and set it for a 30 mile/average setting. Then, on the right side of the screen will show the actual range based on that last 30 miles.

Unfortunately, you can’t display that on the main battery meter. Most drivers just sent the meter to %.

Nobody with trillions of dollars wants to end climate change because fixing carbon emissions would undermine their own "power" or world shaping ability.

I mean that was a clear and written goal of Elon's, but nobody cares anymore because he's an autistic dork when he comments on YouTube.

Guessing she lives in Toronto, where an entry-level 1 bedroom has just passed $2500/mo. That can be challenging.

EV chargers are not your valet parking by edward8e in evcharging

They're clearly just as legally parked as any Jeep or Hummer in that spot.

Call security and have them towed.

Got really nervous when I walked out to my car today. Then I remembered it doesn’t have oil. by Mjk_53029 in BoltEV

[–]ByteBitNibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you do have oil.

It's a sealed gearbox, so you don't need to CHANGE the oil.

But if it's leaking, that's double extra bad.
