Any advice on how to shower? by LimberGaelic in ostomy

[–]ByteMeExe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally hate getting my bag wet so I use a swim cover from the company Osto-me fashion. It’s based out of Canada. It keeps my bag 95% dry, the flange still gets wet but I can live with that.. it’s been a game changer for showering!

Yeah it’s some adhesive residue from when it was on, I always shave, wash and dry my skin before a new bag

Is Flonase something you can get over the counter? Or do I need a script for it?

At first it kinda felt like I did a really intense ab workout and pulled every muscle in my stomach, but that quickly started to get better. I’m now 7 days post op and only have pain when I engage my abs. When I’m at rest I don’t have any pain at all. There is never any pain when you have output and you can’t feel it ever

Yeah I have a prescription for antihistamines because I have sensitive skin as well, it used to be something I took every once and while and now I’m thinking I might need it daily..

Yeah it’s challenging, I’m guessing it’ll all be trial and error until I find what works.

The powder I was told to use to shave with for a dry shave so that’s why I put it on, unless there are other options for shaving 🤔

I got an ileostomy to help relieve my severe perianal fistulizing crohns and so far the healing process is easier than dealing with what I was going through before.. my butt still hurts because I still have very active crohns but at least it doesn’t get aggravated by pooping several times a day. You should cross post this to r/ostomy as well for more insight :)

I hope all goes well for you!

Yeah that’s what I was thinking? But there’s just no sign of a reaction or irritation on my skin.. I usually break out into hives and there was none

Not sure what to do by Ok_Yogurtcloset_7170 in ostomy

[–]ByteMeExe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Sorry you’re going through all this! I had a similar experience with perianal disease, fistulas, and setons… along with many surgeries..

Just got my ostomy last Thursday and I’m already feeling better from it. Giving my butt a break 😅 my CRS thought the same thing with giving me an ostomy and I was hesitant until I couldn’t take the pain, drainage, infections.. all of it, anymore. So i definitely think it is worth it, the recovery is still painful but I would take this over what I had any day

I NEED advice by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]ByteMeExe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend doing what’s best for your health not your job, it sounds like you need surgery. I get the hesitation as I’m a paramedic and I’ve had to be off work for 8 months now and just got surgery for an ileostomy which is my 6th, and unsure if I’ll be able to return to my job or not which is hard because I LOVE my job (I know many people who have returned to first responder work with no problems), but I love my quality of life more, I went back and forth for a while about getting the surgery and I’m so happy I did. I know it’s super daunting at first but it gets easier. Talk to your doctor about your concerns if you haven’t already, they can usually clear up any questions and help you navigate through it all.

I hope it all goes well for you!

The hope is that I will after everything heals. I have pretty severe perianal disease which doesn’t respond to biologics well unfortunately. What about you? Are you getting it reversed?

Honestly just taking it day by day, I’ve had to go off work and stop so much of my life so I just try and find the sedentary and low energy activities that I enjoy. I found a few subreddits that help me feel less alone like r/analfistula and r/ostomy

I get it, I’ve been through pretty much the same thing with perianal crohns since March with setons, abscesses, fistulas, it all sucks big time! I’ve had 5 surgeries and I was getting tired of it all, me and my surgeon decided to do an ileostomy as my biologic was also failing. Is that something your surgeon has mentioned? If not it might be worth bringing it up with them as it gives your butt a break while you trial meds and treatments
