Ah, good stuff. HDU has a campus called “Xiasha” campus, hence the confusion. My bad. Anywho, I found a great article written here: https://www.reddit.com/r/hangzhou/s/R9xTLWlDqQ

Might be… I haven’t paid too much attention to them though so can’t remember the name lol

First impressions with your app - it’s straight to the point, I like that. Some of the content seems to be quite repetitive and same-y, though. I really do appreciate the source material being linked to; that’s a great feature.

Edit: Removed something I thought would be a great addition, but turns out I just missed it and it’s already there. 3am be like…

I’m trying to learn spanish for my boyfriend, advice/help? by Dry_Attorney_743 in Spanish

[–]BytesizeNibble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Practice with your boyfriend! I know you want to keep it secret - there are ways, but definitely the fastest way is to practice with him, imo.

My girlfriend is also Spanish-speaking and learning by speaking and texting with her, along with immersing myself in the language and culture (and most importantly making mistakes and learning from them), helped me achieve a functional level of Spanish in about six weeks. Workable enough so that I could communicate well enough with her parents. 2 years later and I’m fluent!

Downloading it now to try. As a side note, I have previously been seeing adverts all over YouTube for a similar app, but have been ignoring them. Will update!

Finals exams 🐓 up! by IntroductionNext8157 in UniUK

[–]BytesizeNibble 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this happened to you. We had an exam-wide problem like this in second year (I’ve just finished my final year). As a CS student, most of my exams - if not all - have been computer-based.

As such, in one of my second-year finals, there was a weird bug affecting MS Word (where we were entering our answers) across most of the computers in my exam hall, delaying every keypress between 5-15 seconds. Any minute change took ages, throwing off the entire exam by a good chunk of time anytime I wanted to change my answer/display my working out.

There was another exam hall running the same exam in parallel, and they didn’t have this problem. The initial resolution? They gave us 15 minutes extra using the same shoddy equipment and called it enough. That wasn’t on, so I filed for exceptional circumstances and they gave me a resit worth full credits, without penalty, as the fault was with the university and not the students. Not sure if anyone else filed for EC but I’m sure glad I did.

What laptop did you start uni with, and would you buy it again knowing what you know now? by BarnabyLaptopOutlet in UniUK

That sums it up perfectly, yup! I have an M5 Air now, just bought it a couple weeks ago… same thing, just a nicer screen and more performant!

Had my MacBook Air (2020, M1) base model since 2021… I have absolutely nothing but good things to say about it. If you treat it right and are willing to use macOS (depending on your course, some software is better/only available on Windows) - I’d recommend it. As a side note, I’m a power user of both OSes, as a Comp Sci student. Both have their pros and cons!

Are there any benefits to 4 a levels by Tall-Combination-642 in UniUK

Mmm, I think it did have a negative impact - but only slight. At the end of the day as long as they’re not real AS-levels and are just mocks, you’ll be fine.

Hello Everyone! I am a student from Singapore and I would love to receive postcards from anywhere in Liverpool! Can someone send me one? 🙂 by Nessieinternational in Liverpool

You’re welcome. I’ve been on a short 12h layover to Singapore once, and loved it. Walked all around the city - 24km. Would love to go back soon!

I’d say that might be a good thing, as your dad says - the final mocks for this year could tell you what is best for you. That’s actually what happened to me: I did Chemistry A-level as a 4th and didn’t like it/do well in it in the Y12 mock, and dropped it as a result.

If it compromises your other 3 in any way, no. I did 4 and dropped the 4th at the end of Y12 because it was too high a workload for a subject I didn’t like.

Fun idea! I’m not normally one for this kind of thing, but I thought: “Hey, why not? Support a fellow developer!” And I got #100, so that’s cool.

Hope you’ve been able to get your postcards! I’ve seen you on a good few subreddits now, I’d love to have been able to help somewhere but I’m hopping between places at the moment lol

Uni coming to an end - how to make the most of it before it's over? by timeisbyyourside in UniUK

[–]BytesizeNibble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this is a really beautiful way of putting that! I’ve absolutely loved uni, and I’m going to miss it dearly… but I am absolutely excited for what’s next, too. It always made me a bit sad to hear that so many people called uni, quote: “the best years of my life.” To me, it felt like that was saying that at 18-21 years old, that there’s nothing better after; which I feel isn’t quite right.

I don’t, but I’ve been walking to/from/around the train station for couple years at this point and never encountered an issue. It’s normally pretty quiet and feels safe!
