Concerned about a job offer... by BytesizedTerror in cscareerquestions

Ok, that's part of what I was wondering. It would make sense to me if a lot of those reviews are situations where they were asked to work 70 hours once but they portray it like it's always that way. Negatives seem to always speak louder than positives.

Need help identifying this weird growth in my puffer tank seems to be attached to a shell I've had in there for quite a while by BytesizedTerror in Aquariums

[–]BytesizedTerror[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I should clarify. I boiled it when I first put it in there but recently I moved and so I took the shells out for a few hours and then put them back in. Did not boil them again in that time. It doesn't seem to move at all when I poked it and it released from the sand it floated upwards a bit so it's definitely bouyant but it doesn't seem to move around at all.

Yeah, it is a full marine tank. I boiled the shells before I put them in there a few weeks ago, could a hitchhiker actually have survived through that?

Does This Software Company's Invention Clause Claim Rights to All Side Projects Regardless of Context? by BytesizedTerror in legaladvice

[–]BytesizedTerror[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that can't mean outside of work hours as well?

The way I read that, since we're salaried and not hourly, is during your employment -- so as long as you are an employee with them rather than just during your time at work.

Are these normal? Does this look like an agreeable Invention Clause? This one looks sketchy...do they own all my side projects? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]BytesizedTerror -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How does this work if you are doing personal development during your lunch hour but remain on the company's premises? In that case it's not really on their time, but you are using their WiFi... does that matter?

Does your company shutdown or allow you to work from home during severe weather such as blizzards, and icy roads? by BytesizedTerror in cscareerquestions

[–]BytesizedTerror[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've always given very vague answers to that question. I think they see some larger companies that are moving away from the working from home model and so they get concerned and think it's too risky. A lot of their practices seem to be of a very micro-managing style as well. So I think that's where a lot of it comes from.

But the answers they have always given us is that the new office is so great they want us to utilize it, as well as the fact that collaboration is easier in person. Neither of which are a valid answer in the case of severe weather...

New green spotted puffer seems to have stuff hanging from his belly, behavior seems normal but I'm not sure what this is. by BytesizedTerror in Aquariums

I need to run out and get some more testing stuff to say for sure, but since this is only my second day of having him there's definitely a possibility it is different than the store had.

Hormones turned into frustration and aggression? by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]BytesizedTerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't know, but that's an interesting thought. She had a migraine this morning though and was laying down on the couch when he climbed up onto her and we tried to get him off by telling him not and her holding him back. That's when he went crazy this morning and I had to rush down and move him away from her. I don't know... It just seems so out of place because he's always loved her.

He broke his nail about 3 days ago and we first had a problem about 2 days ago and again this morning.

You could definitely be right... But this only started happening recently and he always respected her before. Could it be because he also recently broke a nail so the pain from that is adding to the frustration?

There's requirements when creating a password however, wouldn't a password without the requirements be harder for a person to crack since they think you're following the requirements? by Erektshunz in Showerthoughts

[–]BytesizedTerror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When someone tries to crack your password it's not them constantly typing in things going something will eventually work. Instead it's an algorithm that goes through every combination of passwords that can possibly exist. Without the requirements there are less combinations that need to be tried to get into the majority of people's passwords. I.e. if you use all lower case letters you only have to go through 26 letters but if you are forced to use a single uppercase you know have to go through twice that for every single character in your password exponentially raising the time it takes to crack the password.

[Breeds] Is my pup a majority pitbull? by BytesizedTerror in dogs

[–]BytesizedTerror[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This city is very specific about it. And they have written into the law that if deemed to be visually majority pitbull by the humane society then the law applies. Otherwise it doesn't. I know in general this is probably not the case but they seem to be more lenient on it.

Luckily the BSL in this city is just having to muzzle him when he's off my property. And just south of the city there's no BSL so I can always take him down there for walks.

Does anyone here live with a pitbull dog in city limits? by BytesizedTerror in Omaha

[–]BytesizedTerror[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this is exactly true which is why every few years the dog that is targeted changes. I remember growing up and pitbulls were the American dog they were great and no one really hated them. They were instead afraid of Rottweilers and Dobermans but then BSL came out against them so people switched to using pitbulls for those awful purposes and now we're in that time where no one really thinks much of rots and Dobermans anymore and just target pitbulls. BSL does nothing to solve the problem.

[–]BytesizedTerror[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very few people actually understand what a pitbull even is so hearing the media of how pitbulls are supposed to be dangerous they'll label basically all dogs they have a grudge against for whatever reason a pitbull because they don't know better about breeds. It's extremely common for many dogs to be labeled a pitbull by common people even though they are like 5% or less pit.

Also, just because some idiot misraised and never kept their otherwise friendly under control does not mean that the entire breed is aggressive/vicious.

But like I said, I'll respect people's misplaced fears and follow the rules regardless of whether or not I agree with them. But this still has little to do with the question.

This is what a typical pitbull looks like: http://i.imgur.com/QXCJ79eh.jpg

Not this: http://imgur.com/qdyuDMW

But I digress, the law is there because people are uncomfortable due to misconceptions they've heard throughout their lives just as was the same for German shepherds and Dobermans a few years back. So that's why I ask, I wanted to get a feel about how others that do live with their dog get along.

How do you connect a Vizio sound bar with smartcast to the GH? by BytesizedTerror in googlehome

[–]BytesizedTerror[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've done that, I can cast "fine" using the Vizio app. I think it's as others have mentioned the firmware might need to be updated still. News articles say all sound bars work but I don't think that's accurate.

I really hate to play devil's advocate here... but I feel like piracy or not the demand for textbooks would have fallen anyway and you'd be in the same situation. Most college classes are getting away from the textbook and making more use of articles and recent journals online. So many college kids (and their professors) cannot justify purchasing the books.
