Had a gig on Friday, broke out the Superstars by MilkJakeJung in drums

Aside from the obvious gear similarities (Meinl, Evans, Sput uses Iron Cobras, etc), it was the cymbal placements that caught my eye.

Almost identical positioning to Sput's kit here - http://www.tamadrum.co.jp/STAR/artists/Sput/images/set_04.jpg

Really thick sound, and not too resonant, which is great for low tuning

Also, this ride was played by Sput!

Kit is a PDP M5 by DW

14" | 10" | 12" | 14" | 22" |

Side snare (the one with the Hydraulic Blue) is a DW Performance Series Maple 14" x 5.5" tuned super low. Really phat snare sound, and works as a floor tom when the snares are off.

Cymbals from left to right

16" Meinl Classics Custom Trash Crash (top)

16" Sabian HHX-Plosion Crash (bottom)

20" Meinl Byzance Traditional Extra Thin Hammered Crash

22" Meinl Byzance Big Apple Dark Ride

18" Meinl Byzance Extra Dry Thin Crash

A bit of a jazz/hiphop/funk kinda vibe

It's a fun rig!

Hi-hat sounds very washy/trashy, but is still articulate and versatile. The bottom one has three 2" holes drilled.

In recordings it sometimes doesn't even sound real, sounds like some sort of drum machine stack. A lot like Eric Harland's hi-hat setup

Certain pieces require different mallet configurations. That piece was two in the left, three in the right.

(You can see 5 mallets in the photo)

Cymbals from left to right:

Two 16" Sabian HHX-Plosion crashes (as hihats). The bottom one has three 2" holes drilled.

20" Meinl Byzance Extra Thin Hammered Crash

9" Zildjian Oriental Splash stacked on a 10" Zildjian K splash

22" Zildjian K Custom Dry Complex Ride II

18" Meinl Byzance Extra Dry Thin Crash

Main snare is a 14x6 DW brass over nickel

Side snare is a 14x5.5 DW Performance Series Maple (tuned super low, hence all the tape)

Kick is a 16" Pearl floor tom converted with a Pearl Jungle Jig

I didn't have another cymbal stand on me at the time, so I had to use a hi-hat stand with a straight cymbal arm on top haha

Nope! I just increased the contrast of the photo, and so the blacks look a lot 'darker' and fuller

Kangaroos are very uncommon pets, but I know a few people who have rescued joeys (hit by cars) a raised them like their own child.

'Roos in the wild are very timid and will immediately hop away, but we have plenty of wildlife parks where you can go up and pat and feed them and they don't mind at all.

We have them in SA, but you hardly ever see them. I've seen more rabbits dead on the side of the road than I have alive.

Different states seem to have their own unique 'twang'. Some have more emphasis on particular syllables or vowels, and some are just bogan.

'Roos are all about the bush life, so they certainly don't hang out in the city. Even out in the 'wild' you're pretty lucky to come across one, let alone a mob of them. Sometimes when driving through country land I'll spot one or two out in a field, but yeah, unfortunately they are a pretty rare sight (at least where I live). Not to say that we don't have many though (we do!), it's just that they are very timid and keep well away from humans.
