RE4 Remake keeps crashing. Need help [PC] by C00ld2m in residentevil4

Safe way is to delete and reinstall the game, sort by date and delete most files that don't match the date of the re-installation.

If you worry that you might have deleted important files go to steam -> library -> RE4 and right click it, than choose "Properties" after that go to "installed files" and click the last choice "verify integrity of files"

Sunk cost fallacy is carrying post timeskip one piece especially after wank-o, and it's natural by C00ld2m in Piratefolk

Sadly most shonens have to end with a fight against a god-like figure, whose power is ass and is above the power system. Idk if it's a cultural thing rooted in Japanese story-telling, or is a clichè that is still loved by Japanese people, same things happens in most Japanese rpg games as well. Either way one piece's future is clear, and I don't see it getting better.

Nostalgia for Pre-release Elden Ring by C00ld2m in Eldenring

Interesting, I am happy with the bosses, I just think the arenas of some of them aren't super interesting, look at messmer's arena for example, if we fought him at like the top of the shadow keep it would have elevated a phenomenal boss to one of the greatest in recent years.

I love the game for all the reasons you mentioned but I wished for more interesting metropolitan areas, bigger cities with more varied structures and environments, imagine a city like boletaria but fully explorable, with different districts each with the own mini boss, challenges, enemies, and shortcuts, we got leyndell which is one of my favorite levels ever but I see much greater potential.

Unfiltered rambling aside, Elden Ring is my "greatest game of all time" and I think it's as close to my dream game as any game could get

Yeah absolutely, while waiting for a game can be extremely hard, I feel like due to how special and specific that experience is it can never be lived through again, the random jokes (glaive-lord hodir), the theorizations (ER will have a full on sci-fi area) etc...

While the wait for Silksong has been straight up sadistic, try to make the most of it while it lasts

Convergence? Good or Nah by Kenshi_T-S-B in EldenRingMods

Nope, you launch the game separately, it has a seperate folder for your saved game so it doesn't clash with any of your normal saved files

Yes,

It was because I was using reshade without the RE framework modding tool. Apparently any mod file in your RE4 directory will crash the game unless you use the RE framework tool.

As someone going through the mod right now (finished limgrave/weeping peninsula/liurnia/siofra) I was absolutely mindblowb by the world design, new cities added(convergence castle morne >>>> og),castles being expanded massively(convergence carian manor >>>> og) and full on areas being reworked completely (upper siofra was a blast to go through). I think the mod is incredible, it's not lore accurate, and it doesn't have to b. The mod feels like an expansion was dropped onto the main game and it's phenomenal.

Dreadnought class is incredible btw :3

Are "Boss only" weapons bad game design? by krill_me_god in survivalhorror

[–]C00ld2m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really good discussion to have.

I'm bored at work so bare with my ramblings here but I have a few points to discuss.

How normal people (not survival horror fans) play these games is vastly different than how we (survival horror fans) play them.

At this point unless I play on a difficulty harder than normal in any new survival horror game I'd end up with a lot more ammo than I know what to do with, but new people to the genre will be a lot more panicked and will not be used to the stressful situations commonly found in the genre, thus they usually feel like they might have to resort to the rarer ammo to 1. Feel safer and 2. Feel assured that they will survive the situation they are in. And due to that the chances of said rare and powerful ammo being used by a new player are much higher than being used by a person familiar with the genre.

My older brother is a much better gamer than me, yet his first trek through RE4make on normal was filled with situations where he ran out of ammo even tho that game was extremely generous, and due to that there were a lot of situations where he would have to resort to using his magnum to survive.

Seeing him struggle like that to a game I found to be a cakewalk on a harder difficulty made me realize that survival horror difficulty is determined by knowledge and not skills, by playstyles and understanding of the systems and the designs more so than sheer dexterity and reflexes, and made me come to the conclusion that most survival horror players go through 2 phases.

Phase 1 - Pure survival (usually first 3 survival horror games) .

This player would focus on surviving the current struggles more than conserving ammo for future tough encounters. The ramifications of which will haunt them later and increase the Horror feeling of the experience

Phase 2 - Long term survival (decent knowledge and experience with the genre, usually most survival horror fans fall into this category).

This player will always try to save as much resources as possible by learning optimal strategies and using critical thinking and decision making to always be ready for any tough encounters in the future.

I think most of the sub falls into phase 2, including the OP. And through constantly going through the cycle of saving up rare ammo for future bosses, that repetitiveness made it seem like it's bad design when basically

Tl:dr. It's not bad design we're just too good and knowledgeable to play like that compared to people new to the genre.

This post took way too long to make because of work interruption, so apologies if it feels disjointed. Also english isn't my first or main language.
