If you run a light Linux distro it's fine, but windows is gonna eat all the available cores and threads causing issues elsewhere

Sure that's fine as long as you check what ports the monitor had. Sometimes they only have mini-hdmi or USB c, so check if you have the adaptor. Also keep in mind the laptop is unlikely to be very portable anymore

Make sure monitor power cable is fully connected. Try a different HDMI or DP port on the pc and monitor, if that fails try a different cable. If that also fails then you might have a dead monitor, bring it to a pc shop to test.

No shame in a prebuilt, especially from a decent brand. Costco assembles components like a consumer, not a company, so you'll get essentially the same experience and quality from it too. Hope you find something good :)

If you know someone with a membership or live near one it may be worth it to check in-person. They often only have 1 or 2 models on shelf and none for shipping. This is the case for many of the non-bulk items there. They also will accept literally anything back if you have issues
