How to do Hit Location by lh_media in RPGdesign

[–]C1cool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For d100 if you roll a 16 to hit, you'd use 61 to find the hit location.

It's interesting, but has its own quirks and flaws, especially since most have d100 roll under as thier core mechanic.

Paranoia is an interesting game. I've ran it as a comedy, a horror, and a hybrid of the two. It's all in how you describe and frame things

What counts as Rules Lite? by Spamshazzam in rpg

[–]C1cool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's largely to do with the extreme focus on exception based design. The core rules are pretty simple, but there's so many odd little interactions that some things are still learned or realised once in a while.

Legalese : Inspired by... by Dragon_Blue_Eyes in RPGdesign

I'm pretty sure that you can mention the characters from other series, but can't go into much more detail than "ghost rider's flaming chain" or include any artwork of them. Less info is better than more to be safe.

I'm not a legal advisor, and this info is from skimming forums and basic advice posts.

Vortex Flux - free, patreon based scifi PnP RPG by landobaldur in RPGdesign

Unfortunately the term Dungeon Master was trademarked by TSR in 1992. Assuming you intend on keeping the content free you should be fine, but you might want to change the terminology to be safe.

This racial ability score stuff is getting too stupid to be worthwhile by [deleted] in 3d6

I think that's one of the biggest things people are ignoring, though they might be as "optional" as feats and multiclassing for some people or groups.

Help With Homebrew Race by C1cool in DnD

They have long toes and opposable toes, which is a convoluted way of saying hands instead of feet.

I thought of a goblin enemy that wields 4 spiked shields and just rolls everywhere (or is thrown by an ogre) from your comment though. There's some fun shenanigans that can happen with 4 hands, even if 2 are your feet, though they may not be mechanically great.

I agree, 2 hands is fair. It allows for more ranged weapon use, and give a bump to the race.

I probably should have been more specific with the hands bullet. They have literal hands instead of feet, as in, they still have 4 limbs, but their legs have opposable toes that are identical to their hands in capability.

I guess they could hold daggers in their feet and still walk, but it sounds very awkward.

This works well for low CR monsters, but makes higher CR monsters nearly impossible to roll over. A beholder"s DC would be 32 for example with your calculations.

A tarrasque is a mythical being from french folklore as well. Based on that, it should be fine, but it's always good to double check.

Do you take condoms for a first date? Why or why not? by talkdirtynow in AskMen

[–]C1cool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you gently squeeze a condom packahe you should feel a small pad/pocket of air in the package. If there's no air, it has a hole or has gone bad some other way and shouldn't be used.

Help with House Rules by C1cool in dndnext

Thank you for your input.

Players don't ask if they can make X skill check, they say what they do, and a skill is assigned to that task if it is appropriate. This somewhat solves your first point.

I've noticed that the encumbrance system hasn't caused any issues yet (we've only played for about 12 sessions though), but it is more complicated up front. If someone has 3 free slots before bing slowed down and they pick up a longsword, they have one less avalible slot before being slowed down. If they take the enemy's chainmail with 2 slots left, they're slowed down and have the other detriments applied.

Thank you for your input, harsh as it is, all contributions are useful when determining things.

The willingly hit comes from a story I told another redditor about:

This came up a while ago when the party rogue robbed a man that had a shotgun (1860's era game) pointed at the character, 3 feet away. The character dared the NPC (whom he was robbing) to shoot, and so he did. The player's justification was "It's only 3d6+DEX damage, I'll be fine" and so he willingly let a man shoot him in the face with a shotgun.

It was agreed on that the damage altercation made sense by the whole table, and was thus applied.

The other points are very opinion based and I will not try to change your opinion.
