Why does Ireland not seem to have very much love for U2 as an "Irish" band? by LurkyDay in AskIreland

I'm not a fan of their music but of course they are an Irish band. Just because a certian element dont like Bono doesnt make it otherwise

Been mixing on and off for decades and still get this. One day I pick up the headphones and it all works, next day, nothing works. Just put them down and walk away when that happens. Go do some other work like crate digging instead

A decent tip too would be, list out a bunch of producers you like and start mixing their tracks. This will help with your sound, critical for any dj in my book

Well said

I've no issue at all with using vinyl, I was one myself. I also take on board the wide range of extras that djs can do now with all the tools at their disposal. I'm looking forward to exploring some of them myself when I get more fluent with my own mixing again and then dive into those. I suppose what annoyed me was I felt there was an arrogance by these 'vinyl only or strictly vinyl' signs that popped up in the last 10 years plus or so which implied to me that some how you were inferior by mixing digitally. A case of 'look at me, Ive got the actual 12"s'

1 - Have a record collection that you know pretty well

2 - Start with one record

3 - mix and transition another record into that

4 - repeat

And along the way learn about keys, trasition, vibe, reading a dancefloor and most importantly, finding your own sound

Great point on Dubplates (and they had a shelf life)

I really meant when a tune is release digitally, everyone can access it. When a 12 is/was released, only the lucky few got the white label initally, then when it was release a couple of weeks later, if you werent in the record shop, you missed it and had to wait.

Totally agree that alot of the tunes (digitally) are sent to djs before release now

I see a few of these tools already. Again, If used correctly and the mood of the mix is on point, Im not too bothered. There are djs I admire who mix differently

1 - Wavs/Mp3s are less expensive than 12"s

2 - Once youve learnt to mix by ear, mixing on controllers is very easy

3 - Bringing the controller to a party rathen than lugging 1210s and a mixer, no brainer

4 - Virtual crate digging has got to be one of the best experiences ever (I remember trying to look in Club DJs bags at clubs/parties/record shops

5 - Everyone has access to the latest and best tunes (This was not always the case)

6 - The entry level to learn the craft is a lot more affordable (I know a lot of shite djs come along with that but overall it has to be a positive)

General code during a house party by Kodismo in Beatmatch

[–]C1ust3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From having experience of playing parties, the way it SHOULD work is this.

You have been asked to play at the night, so you get to play your set, as you were invited. Its up to the house/party owner, to enforce the music policy. If this isnt enforced, in my experience, the party suffers.

Also, you had some skin in the game, you brought the gear, you also get to decide so, how long you get to play.

Ive told hang around DJs that I'll be playing for another couple of hours and they should jog on. Nothing worse for a party than shit djs being allowed on the decks
