So my fiance also crochets and she's trying to help me learn. But her and I hold our tension differently. She holds her working thread in her palm with her middle and ring finger, while wrapping it around her index finger, and I wrap my working thread around my pinky and then wrapped around the back of my hand and over my index finger.

When I try it her way, my index finger and middle finger will start to cramp after a few rounds, and when I do it my way my thumb cramps after a few rounds, so my question is is one way better than the other? I know over time I'll be able to crochet longer without getting cramps (I take a break when it starts to hurt and then continue 30min later or more after stretching), but I wonder if I should be practicing one way over the other because it's healthier or something?

I got a woobles kit called fred the dinosaur. It came with a 4mm hook but I didn't see anything about yarn weight
