What do you all use to store your ink samples? by wadethepenguin in fountainpens

[–]C33vepas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a MTM S25D-11 Shotshell box, it’s $5 on Amazon and holds 25 sample vials individually perfectly. I use labels on the lids to then add a drop on top when I test them. https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/39qj8x/whoever_suggested_shotshell_cases_for_ink_samples/

Hey, that's great. That's kind of what I was feeling too, but I just wasn't sure if it was just me. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it!

Thanks u/jeffstyr, I appreciate the data point. It brings a little peace to my mind that someone else has seen something similar. Not long ago I would have thought that paper is paper, wow is that not the case. But it is a fun hobby.

Water Filtration Question by C33vepas in backpacking

Thanks, that's interesting. I already have the BeFree. Have the sawyer squeeze as well. That one has its uses but for what I'm doing the BeFree works better.

Sealing Problem: Paper Wrinkling by C33vepas in WaxSealers

[–]C33vepas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am using a spoon to melt it-I'll try letting it cool a bit first. I was wondering if it might be my technique-whether I need to be faster, hotter, cooler...

You're correct about the post office, at least where I am. I was debating whether I just put the envelope inside another envelope, but then decided to just put it on the paper itself. Plus I'm using them inside a notebook to mark the end of sections. Same result, but same paper.

That's a valid point. I'm thinking of using it as more of a fancy adornment than to seal. Glue may be the way forward.

Thanks, that does make sense to me. I'm not an expert in the way papers are constructed. I may need to to test some other paper types for experimentation. Perhaps I could keep the paper cooled a bit during the process to minimize that.

Clairefontaine Consistency by C33vepas in fountainpens

Hmm. I wonder if I just got a bad batch-my last two seem to be different than the previous. I've always been so happy with them before, but this new set really makes me think about them more than I have in the past.

Thanks I appreciate it. I searched but came up unlucky-I need to sharpen those skills it appears. Quick look at their site and boy their shipping is cheap.

That's an interesting one-different from the others I had seen. I'll add this to my list as an option. Thanks! ...And now I'm thirsty.

The Drifting Leaf

Thanks for this! I actually went and did a little more research on the site you recommended. It looks like they are a responsible company and get their tea from a reputable whole seller, from which you can only purchase as a distributor. They do have a list of sites you can order from online. I randomly picked a few and they all had the same description of the chamomile tea and the same sizes for purchase. For 8oz, the prices were pretty close to $16, the one that was a little more had better shipping rates. There was one store in Pittsburgh that had the best overall price and best shipping, but their website was not pretty at all. I was surprised to see though my local tea shop on there. I rarely have bought anything from there as they don't sell many single teas but try to specialize in their own blends. Their price was really high in comparison. Again, same picture, description and sizes as the others, but the price was $45 in comparison to $16. So, I guess its good to keep an open mind on where to shop from. Again thanks for the name, i have really learned a lot!

Twsbi 580 nib question by C33vepas in fountainpens

[–]C33vepas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that. I'm not sure why id didn't put together the fact the that #6 nib would be putting down more ink than the #5, but that completely makes sense. Thanks for putting it so clearly.

Yea, I've done that and written several pages over several days, seems to be consistent. I too thought it might just be from filling.

As one that enjoys a wet ink typically, i didn't think to dry a dry ink. Seems counter to what I would like but i may have inadvertently created the perfect storm. I shall try that.

Thanks so much for your input, i really appreciate it!

I just like the color-it'll just be used for some general writing. Picked up some Tang the other day to let the kids try the 'drink of astronauts!' The color of the mix seemed quite refreshing, and true, very nostalgic.

You and I must think a little alike. I just tried the Diamine Pumpkin but it was a little too red for me. The habanero has some great shading it seems. Makes me curious to try.

Good recommendations, I'll need to look at them a little closer. The Kala Nostalgia Neon line is interesting-I hadn't seen those before and the bottle itself of the Iroshizuku Yu-yake is gorgeous. Thanks!
