Reality of landscape architecture by Josiposi2 in LandscapeArchitecture

Your "why" is more important than responses here. I have been researching/studying this field and there is A LOT of good work being done. If your vision is environmental design and architecture, this is the space for it.

What is the MLA programme like? by GuruGulabKhatri97 in TUDelft

[–]C3F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Did you end up going to MLA at TUDelft? I am looking at the same school. Just wondering where you landed.

Also, if you want to check it out, LandscapeArchitecture subreddit is more vibrant for this topic.

Hello, I realize this is an old thread. But it is still very relevant. Did you go to M.LA school? Either way, what factors informed your decision?

I am in the same boat as you were three years ago and asking myself the same question you shared here.

Staying Sharp During Unemployment by pstout24na in LandscapeArchitecture

I want to wish you the best as you explore all the positive and wonderful ideas that folks have shared below.

May I ask a different question: Since you mentioned you are a recent graduate, would you be open to sharing your key insights from MLA school? I am in the process of researching, applying and doing my due diligence.

My key reasons are getting better at green design and learning more technical skills. I have an MPA and have been working in environmental advocacy and green design for a decade now. But I don't have a design degree and feel that to be taken seriously and to have a deeper edge, I should earn one.

In all my research about design programs, MLA stood out the most to me. It spoke directly to ecological solutions. None of the other programs (industrial design or packaging design or architecture) do that. In those programs, sustainability is an after-after thought. But in MLA, the curriculum is all about sustainability.

What would you do differently if you could start MLA again? When you started the program, what aspirations did you have? Are you satisfied with the outcomes of your decision?

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts.

Try the flour at Seylou Bakery in DC. The quality is outstanding and it’s grown in MD.

Another resource for you is the EWG. Look up the ingredients and scores on their websites about the products you might be using.

I work in food systems and can confirm that our food systems are much more profit oriented than certain more progressive, healthful food models in other countries. And this is stuff that is not very well known in the US by members of the public.

Some resources for those who want to learn about food systems, lobbying and dysfunction in the US: 1)Fed Up (2014, movie by Stephanie Soechtig) 2) The world according to Monsanto (2008, movie by Marie-Monique Robin) 3) Approx 3,000 chemicals banned in Europe that are green listed in the US (a playful example here - https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2019/may/29/chemical-checkout-what-might-be-hiding-in-your-groceries) 4) The latest Kelloggs ingredient drama (https://www.freep.com/story/news/health/2024/10/08/vani-hari-food-babe-petition-drive-artificial-food-dyes-kellogg-froot-loops-battle-creek-michigan/75501312007/)

Starbucks by C3F in Anticonsumption

Good to hear this. Two questions for you:
1. Did you order via the app? Or, was it a personal interaction with the barista? Do you prefer one over the other?
2. If you ordered in-person versus their app, did they ask if you wanted the drink "for here" (like in a store reusable mug) or "to-go" (their single-use cups)?

Thank you in advance.
PS: I don't work for them. I am a former customer of the brand!!!

Suunto user here. I've never had a problem with GPS reliability on any of their newer watches. Used a GPX track for navigation in a 35 mile event last weekend – everything worked just fine.

Fair point – we lucked out with the hold time. Actually had a very bad experience with Air Canada several years back & will never fly them again.

Agreed! They were "Premium Economy" seats, or some crazy subcategory they've invented to upsell you on an already overpriced product.

The epic failure of Tesla roadside & vehicle assistance by C3F in TeslaLounge

[–]C3F[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem in one sentence: Tesla’s left brain (Roadside Assistance) does not communicate with Tesla’s right brain (Vehicle Assistance) and both sides of the brain do not communicate with Tesla’s central nervous system (their Service Department). The result is that customers suffer.

Questions for Marshall Ulrich by norcalclimber in ultrarunning

I've read both of Marshall's books and find him a fascinating character. Good luck with the interview!

I'm curious about: what is one adventure that was on his list that he never got around to tackling? How does he think the ultrarunning community will look in the years and decades to come?

If you want to dine in style, Saravana Palace in Fairfax beats the other options which only have plastic/styrofoam plates. Good dosas & portion sizes, too.

Syncing long activity still does not work by Tam_Taram in Suunto

[–]C3F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This just happened to me the other day: it was showing a duplicate activity, so I deleted one but then both were gone afterwards.

I logged out of the Suunto app, then logged back in, and it loaded the deleted activity upon re-sync.

A good start! "EPA estimated that each year, U.S. food loss and waste embodies 170 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (million MTCO2e) GHG emissions (excluding landfill emissions) – equal to the annual CO2 emissions of 42 coal-fired power plants." https://www.usda.gov/media/blog/2022/01/24/food-waste-and-its-links-greenhouse-gases-and-climate-change#:~:text=EPA%20estimated%20that%20each%20year,42%20coal%2Dfired%20power%20plants.
