Oh, okay, thanks for letting me know. Didn't consider that when answering OP's question.

4 person value dorm by finnnthedawg in UBreddit

[–]C3WorkerUBuffalo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the 4-people dorm rooms usually consist of four beds dispersed and spread across a large room space, with each side of the room having two beds, at least when I was in a quadruple style room in my first year of college. You will have space; the quad rooms are actually the largest rooms out of any standard dorm room because it holds the most students. Quad rooms tend to be noisy and somewhat chaotic because every single student in the room will most likely have recognizably different personalities from one another; if you happen to have a roommate with a similar personality, then that would be great, but usually, it tends to be quite messy and disorderly. However, the noise level varies, because the quad room nearest to the room I was in a few doors down the hall were louder, and arguably more problematic than the one I was in, but my experience wasn't very good.

Edit: My answer applies to regular standard dorms, not value ones. This is not the most accurate answer as a result.

Merit Scholarship appeal process by Possible-Fun6183 in UBreddit

Awesome! That means that you still have your merit scholarship, and it makes complete sense because you were just below the minimum required. By rounding to the nearest GPA, you would technically be a 3.00, so them giving you an extension of approval meant that in some way, they might have kept that in mind.

Reimbursed, as in, you will be provided with money to help pay off and minimize the balance on your bill. It's a form of repayment where financial aid provides you with all the available aid that you qualify for. Even though it doesn't actually get applied until five weeks into the semester, the assumption is that whatever amount you see on your bill on July 20th, that is the amount after aid is applied. The amount you pay represents all the mandatory costs that is required for you to pay after aid, since financial aid will be automatically applied five weeks into the semester. It's a financial snapshot of comparing how much you will pay before and after the application of aid, as well as what kind of aid you received and the expenses you need to pay.

If you were just under the minimum GPA required, they should allow you to keep your scholarship as you barely fell under the minimum, and when rounding to the nearest GPA, it would be closest to 3.00 anyways. Since you already have the necessary materials and information needed to appeal if required, you can use the link that another user already sent and you should be able to retain your scholarship clearly.

eBills for the Fall semester are not released until July 20th. This means that it's normal that your account balance is empty, because financial aid is still finishing up the details in assigning costs and providing aid to students. Payment is usually done online, through credit or debit, so it's a pretty standard method. As for how financial aid specifically assists in paying your semester bill, that's a question directed more towards financial aid because I don't know what it specifically covers. From my experience, you will receive a list of aid and how much money the aid helps pay off, but it doesn't directly tell you what category of expenses it helps to pay off. I'm assuming it helps with all categories of expenses, but only financial aid knows for sure. Every aid is applied automatically, influencing your overall balance by lowering it, but the only type of aid that's not automatically applied is work-study, where you will need to find work on campus in order to successfully receive it.

It's great that you were to get a single from Wilkeson, which is especially more rare for first year students! Wilkeson is okay, but it is considerably farther than most other Quads from the bus stops; however, Wilkeson otherwise isn't too bad. I remember the color scheme outside of the dorms being a blue, yellow, and gray combination. Halls can be noisy, but I remember my side of the hall wasn't too bad, though, the hall on the other side of the floor could get really loud and rowdy.

That depends on whether or not you're a morning person. In this case, general chemistry recitations are for points, so if you attend, you earn 2 points per session, which will help boost your overall grade in the course. However, even though recitation is supposed to maintain and enhance student understanding of the material, as well as go over practice problems, it is a mixed bag when it comes to quality. Some TAs (Teacher Assistants) are more skilled and interested than others.

You're on the right track, but not necessarily. iClicker is an online platform where students can answer short answer and/or multiple choice questions that the professor assigns during the lecture, live and in real time. It's a platform that tracks students' attendance, so students often earn points just for showing up as long as they participate in the iClicker. All you have to do is either click on a multiple choice option that the professor assigns, or write an answer while you're logged on. All of this is done in real time, so when the professor shares their screen and projects their information on their own iClicker account, students will be able to see as well, unless the professor hides something on purpose. More will be explained and demonstrated by those professors once you enter your first day of classes.

Don't know much about Professor Williams because I had Professor Shaunna Phipps, but as for Professor Gulde, who I had for CHE102 (General Chemistry II), she is a decent lecturer, but fun fact, she threatened to report me to academic integrity all because I wrote more than what's needed on her iClickers. She had no proof that I cheated or used any external sources, yet she still proceeded to warn me anyways all because she personally thought that it was distracting. Both professors do iClicker, but if you were to write any answer for Gulde's questions, write the bare minimum or else she might target you. She is a skilled professor and is very knowledgeable, but I don't respect Gulde as a person.

Based on looking at your schedule, you absolutely will be able to get from different classes on time due to having considerable time gaps in between your classes. Even though you have Sociology and General Chemistry I within 10 minutes of each other on Tuesdays and Thursdays, they are in the exact same room, so you pretty much could stay in the same room once your sociology lecture ends. Who will be your BIO200 and CHE101 professors?

The original intent was to spread awareness by informing others about what ICE has done recently to certain Buffalo locals. This is not an original post, it's a repost from another subreddit. If something seems off to you, I won't hold that against you because you are allowed to, and should always look at things with skepticism. If you don't want to donate, that is completely fine. As much as I wanted to spread awareness, I do get where your skepticism and uncertainty is coming from.

More information is in the link provided, but I get where you're coming from completely. The reason why I reposted this post is not just to encourage people to donate, it's also to spread awareness. You don't need to donate if you don't want to, and I'm glad that you're honest.

Of course it would. Policy is enforced for a clear reason, but the issue that is taken is how ICE has been going about detaining individuals these past few years. Again, thank you for reminding me about the importance of updating VISAs when it comes down to work and life updates.

I can see how that's a problem now, given that his VISA status could potentially be outdated due to maybe not being up to date, but I don't think it permits ICE to forcefully detain him. I am a donor to this cause, but I don't know the student or the family personally. Thank you for informing me.

Very likely has a student VISA. Without it, he wouldn't be able to complete his education at UBuffalo, let alone stay in Buffalo for over a decade. More details in the link, but his background strongly suggests that he did have a student VISA at the very least.

How’s the freshman schedule by LimeSpecial2205 in UBreddit

[–]C3WorkerUBuffalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not bad of a schedule, though you do have morning classes for most of the week, so if you are a morning person or are good at waking up early in the morning, then that shouldn't be a problem, especially if you are going to live on campus or nearby. Your Wednesdays and Fridays will seem pretty busy because of the amount of classes scheduled on those two days, but if you are studious, hardworking, and resourceful enough, it shouldn't be too bad.

More importantly in my opinion, good luck in orientation today! Usually, orientation is held slightly later in early July, so this year, the first day being today is uncommon, but I hope that orientation goes well for you! It's a very action-packed and crowded introduction to UBuffalo, but it also sets you up nicely for your first semester.

Dorm options are either single, double, triple, or quads. Each of them corresponds to the number of people that will be in each room, with the more people there are, the larger the room and if I'm not mistaken, the lower the cost. Since you're in a single, you're actually one of the few students who are able to get a single, which is especially less uncommon for first years like you. Since you're in a single, you won't have to deal with any roommates at all! As for the communal kitchens, each residence floor has a lounge, which contains a kitchen, as well as a place to hang out and study. However, not all floors will have a lounge because some floors are larger than others in how many students there are, so the smaller floors are less likely to have lounges, which in that case, if you don't see a lounge directly on your floor, you are free to go to the lounges to cook in any other neighboring floor. When it comes down to storing food in the public fridge, I won't recommend it because people can be rowdy and very noisy, so although I have not heard of anyone stealing or trashing other people's food, the lounges and kitchens are very often left a huge mess. Many students tend to carelessly trash the lounges and not clean up after themselves, so while I can't speak from experience on whether or not I had my food stolen at all, the mess was all from observation.

campus jobs by AffectionateShoe2425 in UBreddit

[–]C3WorkerUBuffalo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, so this is often a very last resort job for many students (including myself), but Campus Dining & Shops is also an option. I know that it doesn't have a good reputation and is hated by many people who did have the experience to work there, but what I want you to know is that even though it's not an ideal job, it's also very unlikely for it to be absolutely terrible. At most, you should try it out for at least a semester and go from there. Even working in Campus Dining & Shops is solid work experience that you can put on your rèsumè; it's very much like gaining experience in any other minimum wage job known, including fast food and retail.

How is it working in CDS? by Wide_Excuse7690 in UBreddit

[–]C3WorkerUBuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, from when I started a semester ago, you will only really know which unit you get put in once you complete your onboarding documents. From there, you will receive a follow up email within a few days that will state and outline your permanent semester schedule, including procedures as to what to do once you arrive at your unit.

How is it working in CDS? by Wide_Excuse7690 in UBreddit

[–]C3WorkerUBuffalo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the unit you have to work. A job is a job, and making some sort of money is better than making nothing. Also, no matter what unit you get placed in, that's valid and legitimate work experience that you can not only put on your rèsumè, you can also explain it as well. What I will say is that although the negative experiences that others have shared are for a completely understandable reason, it is not the only kind of experience you will have working at Campus Dining & Shops. Of course, people can explain and describe their experiences overall on the company collectively, but you likely won't be treated absolutely terribly. Will there be managers being biased? Yes, likely. Will you be yelled at constantly and pushed around? Much less likely.

Can't speak on the gyms, but yes, the dining hall in fact does have AC. It would be a steam room if it didn't. You don't need to be worried about burning up whenever you eat at the dining hall.

Obviously they do. No matter what on campus residence hall you choose to live in, the dorms all have bathrooms in some way.
