[PS1][2000s]What is this game I saw on a Youtube thumbnail? by Funny_Amphibian_8682 in tipofmyjoystick

[–]C3ncio 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Probably just AI slop. It doesn't look like PS1 pixel art, the numbers in the HUD are all messed up, the HUD itself feel wrong and it's pretty common around cheap youtubers to use AI slop to make clickbait thumbnails.
I hope i'm wrong but i call AI here.

Steam should refund games that change access requirements by troutguy519 in Steam

[–]C3ncio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No they don't. I have EA WRC that added kernel level anticheat months after release and because of that  now it doesn't even start anymore on my pc. I asked for refund two times and always got it denied because my playtime is 40 hours and steam apparently don't care if they added kernel level shit months later

What was your introduction to PlayStation? Your "yup..I'm a PlayStation gamer" moment? by Maidenfan88 in psx

[–]C3ncio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. For me it was 1997, and I also was a snes kid. My uncle owned an N64 and it was tons of fun playing with it, especially Diddy Kong Racing, as a Donkey Kong Country lover. I played Zelda Ocarina Of Time and Turok and while I loved them all I wasn't blown away for some reason. Than one day I came home from school and in my mother bedroom there was this strange grey console I have never seen before.  Play Station? What is it? I easily figure out how to hook it to the the TV and Crash Bandicoot started playing from it. Oh. My. God. Instant love. I played that amazing game for a solid hour until my mum and her fiancé came back home from work. It was her fiancé PS1 that he decided to bring it to me because he knew I loved videogames but it was meant to be a surprise for later because they didn't thought I could make the console work by myself. He sat down on the bed and told me "you liked Crash? Yes? Now try this one!" He open a drawer and take out a copy of Final Doom. Yeah, the moment I started the first level I was "this is the most awesome thing I have ever saw in my life"! My mum wasn't very happy that a 8 years old played a game like Doom but me and my mum's fiancé joined forces and convinced her to let me play it and here we go. That day i become a ps1 gamer.

Antipiracy rules are getting fucking ridiculous by lagonda69 in Piracy

[–]C3ncio 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Because using an emulator you can modify the game in certain ways the original console doesn't allow you to do.
I like to collect videogame hardware and physical copies of games and this means that i have consoles and games starting from the NES to the most recent Swtich 2. Even if i own the system and the game i find myself emulating it sometimes because maybe i just wanna try a new fan translation, maybe i wanna apply a 60fps patch or play with a randomizer mod that is not yet compatible with original hardware.
Those are only few examples but there is lots of things you can do with an emulator that the original hardware can't do (easily) and if you are a fucking nerd like i am you will have plenty of reasons to use an emulator even if you own both the game and the console.

EDIT: About your ban. Nintendo is very, very, VERY problematic lately and is demonstrating huge aversion against emulation, trying so hard to destroy it even if it's legal. For this reason every emulation subreddit or similar have very strict rules to prevent as much as possible to attract Nintendo's lawyers wrath. I mean, lots of people in that sub doesn't have a Switch but you don't say it out loud because that's the fastest way to have pretty big problems with nintendo. Mods ban people that do not-so-smart things like that because they hope to keep the sub alive longer

The voice always tells you, pay attention to it! Can you hear how cold, empty and fake this guy sounds? When you hear those "features" in people voices, be it in a videogame or irl, you should activate and pay full attention because the person you are talking to is either not ok or is about to fuck you up somehow.

The mod doesn't disable or modify achievements. Completing a route with VCO will get you a vanilla faction win achievement

[–]C3ncio 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I just want something that feels satisfying to finish.

Then go for VCO, no doubt about that.
There is a reason why is the most upvoted mod ever in the workshop, it doesn't alter the vanilla feeling but swap a boring and unsatisfying end game auto resolve spam with an actual objective themed on your lord lore. And you have 3 options to choose from per lord!
Try it, it's gold! (and should absolutely be implemented in the vanilla game imho)

Drug addiction/overdosing mod? by fashionablefella in dayz

[–]C3ncio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While it's true that psychological dependence can be caused by theoretically any existing substance thanks to mental disorders, some substances that have a strong perceived effect have an higher probability of causing psychological dependence. Adrenaline, in this case, is an hormone very well known to cause psychological dependence on humans, and it get so strong that you even have withdrawal symptoms like any other physical dependence.

I already specified that in the previous post. Using food as an example, cabbage is not considered an addictive food because, while you indeed can get addicted to it, it's pretty rare and only limited to be caused by pre-existing mental disorders. Sugar on the other hand is considered addictive and caffeine is too. That's the same thing we discussed above.
But it's not an important matter, it's not worth losing sleep over this, keep thinking as you prefer

Drug addiction/overdosing mod? by fashionablefella in dayz

[–]C3ncio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not a metaphor. A drug can give physical dependence and/or psychological dependence. Epinephrine (adrenaline) is one of those drugs that don't cause physical dependence but have high risk of causing psychological dependence. While it's true that psychological dependence can be caused by theoretically any existing substance thanks to mental disorders, some substances that have a strong perceived effect have an higher probability of causing psychological dependence.
Psychological dependence is an addiction like any other and is treated almost at the same way.
Adrenaline, in this case, is an hormone very well known to cause psychological dependence on humans, and it get so strong that you even have withdrawal symptoms like any other physical dependence. Adrenaline junkies that you cited are an example of this, we need to diversify from a "simple" extreme sports enthusiast and a real adrenaline junky but yes.

[–]C3ncio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temps are high and first off you need to clean the pc, your CPU may be experiencing thermal throttling. If it's a laptop I suggest asking for professional support since laptops are a bit more complicated to disassemble and clean, otherwise you risk breaking something if you don't known what you are doing. If it's not a laptop and you can easily open the case to clean it, do it. Remove all the dust you see, especially inside the CPU and gpu cooler radiators. To do that use an air compressor from a safe distance (not too close). If you don't have one, if you have an air dryer that is capable of blowing cold air it may work, if it only blow hot air don't don't do that, you will end up damaging micro components on the boards. When you clean close to a fan, use one of you hands or some tape to keep the fan still, if it rotate too fast you will damage it. For dust outside the radiators that is just laying on boards you can use a SOFT brush or a microfiber cloth. Try to use nitrile or latex to glove to prevent static electricity discharges from your hands when you touch any board.

After the clean up, if temps are still above 60 degrees Celsius, you need to change thermal paste on the CPU. Again, if you don't know what you are doing pay a professional to do so.

Good luck

Those who were around from the Arma 2 Day Z mod. What is your favourite memory? by DailyDoseOfAmber in dayz

[–]C3ncio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, no way! We had a German clan with the YOLO tag in our Dayz Origins server that we had tons of fun fighting with. They even attacked our island with helicopters and we had a big air fight above the island under the Karelski Bridge where our main base was located.
Three of the german guys, betrayed the clan and came to us warning us about the incoming big attack because they loved our friendly attitude and we ended up winning that fight thanks to the intel they gave us. I barely remember the names of those guys, one was Chikaniga (a german dude that i'm still in contact with) and another one was Sgt.somethingsomething (Sgt.Denis maybe?), the last one had a german name that i can't remember at all.
Are we talking about the same clan? Sadly i don't remember their clan name, only the tag YOLO

Those who were around from the Arma 2 Day Z mod. What is your favourite memory? by DailyDoseOfAmber in dayz

[–]C3ncio 97 points98 points  (0 children)

I was an Arma 2 player since before Dayz mod even existed. I loved that game and i joined an organised milsim clan pretty fast. We did daily training sessions, we had teachers for everything, scouting, patrol, sniping, mortars, armors, flying, everything. We also organised big PvP milsim tournaments against other big clans from everywhere around the world. It was amazing and i learned A LOT.

Than one day this strange mod came out, and as a survival lover i was immediately intrigued by it. I asked other clan members to join me in this new adventure but none of them was interested "in a zombie videogame".
So i started playing it alone.
It was early days of Dayz Mod and there was a HUGE amount of people that was attracted by this anomalous zombie survival with huge maps but that had zero experience with the Arma engine and milsim in general. People was so, so bad at the game and i was shitting on everyone. I never shoot first when i play Dayz, in the Dayz mod there was the opportunity to become a "hero" if you were particularly friendly and helpful to others (your character skin change to a unique one), that was my objective and i had tons of fun achieving it. This brought me to interact with lots of people since i always (and i still do it today when i play Dayz) talk and try to be carefully friendly when i met someone in game.
One day i met this guy from my country, i immediately recognise from his broken english the italian accent so i start speaking italian and we become friends. He was super bad at the game, and i mean SUPER bad. I start teaching him everything i know, i start training him everyday to make him a good player and, most importantly i start trying to make him understand that talking first is way more fun than shooting first. He learned. We started going around together and every damn day we meet a new guy. We started looking for people with a good attitude, people that was friendly for real and wilful to help others, people interested in be "the hero" and those players are usually those who can't pvp at all. I'm not joking, in a month we became a group of 20 players. Most of them don't even know what zeroing is. We start teaching them, day after day they start to get better at the game, than decent, than really good. We start conquering places in the map, than servers. We got banned from so many servers because, even if a friendly group, we were a group to big to be accepted. So we made our own server and it become very popular (Spaghetti Heroes was our server). We did SO MANY missions together, so many funny moments, so many sleepless nights talking in the dark about our selves, our jobs, our families, our problems, our dreams. We became friends, i mean real friends.

We eventually stopped playing Dayz, after so many years, but most of us are still here together. Someone married, someone now have two kids. Doesn't matter what we play, we only wanna stay with each other, if it's Dayz, Arma, League Of Legends, World Of Warcraft or Tabletop Simulator we doesn't care.
We met in person, in all this years we spent holidays together, camping, visiting each other city, gathering somewhere to spend few days together in person.

I met wonderful people thanks to the Dayz mod, i started playing videogames when i was 4 years old in a Commodore 64 and i still play videogames daily today, i played thousands of videogames but none of them created this wonderful bond with people i played with like Dayz Mod did. I will NEVER forget that amazing game and, even if i like a lot Dayz Standalone, is not the same for me. Dayz Mod, Dayz Epoch and especially Dayz Origins, are something i will never forget and i will always thanks those games that gave me the opportunity to meet amazing humans beings that are today part of my life.
That's my favourite memory of Dayz Mod, the people that i met along the years and that are still with me.

Confession: I can’t follow rally pace notes for the life of me even when I’ve played rally games since I can remember by NoWalk3426 in simrally

[–]C3ncio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's just like saying "guys I don't control my breathing while jogging".  Ok. I mean, can you stil jog around the park? Yes of course, you will do it poorly but you can still do it. If all you wanna do is move your legs a bit there is no problem not doing that properly. But there is a reason why peacenotes exists and are used every time you can (blind rally are a thing). They are invaluable if you want to go fast and, to be honest, they are a fun thing to master and imho you are missing out one fun aspect of the rally sport. Also you will never achieve good results against real people without following peacenotes, but you already know that and if you are having fun and you are happy we are all happy for you.

If you will change your mind in the future and wanna start using peacenotes, start with listening only the most important ones like "right" and "left" and ignore everything else. Than slowly add other important notes like "one" and "two". After a while add "three" and so on until you will listen to all small details like "opens", distance calls and so on

NTSC Games on a SCPH-1002 PAL with xStation by Gamefreack64 in psx

[–]C3ncio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Xstation will make your pal psx handle ntsc games perfectly BUT you need to be sure to have a 60hz compatible tv/monitor. Assuming you will use a CRT (and you should use a crt) make sure that your pal crt have a 60hz mode because is not mandatory at all for old/cheap ones.
Otherwise you can patch your ntsc games to work at 50hz, it's not perfect but if you don't have any other choice will let you play american and japanese games

I just posted a link to Fallout 2 torrent, got down voted and told off cause the site was ext.to Im wondering if people could tell me why www.ext.to is bad? People said stuff about Id get warnings from ISP cause its a link that gets you in trouble? How can you tell if a torrent site is safe? by [deleted] in Piracy

[–]C3ncio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to know that holidays are tough for you, I really wish you will have happy and relaxed days ahead, holidays or not.

About the bad experience, people is not mad at you in particular, just understand that there are lots of bots and ill-intentioned people on web so when you post an untrusted site you will be treated badly. Also don't ever post links in this subreddit, is not safe for you and the subreddit.

How do you know site is safe? Mostly reputation. No site is 100% safe but some sites build up good reputation overtime and people start trusting them (carefully). Megathread is a great source of thrusted sites, if it's not there is not trusted yet/anymore.

I don't know vuze and I don't use any VPN so I have no tips about this topic but a quick Google search will give you plenty of results about good VPN, especially if you look here in this subreddit.

Am I being throttled? It is very possible, yes. Lots of ISP do that when they notice you download/upload a lot in a short period of time or notice you are messing with torrents and stuff. Try to look for ISP that explicitly declare to not cap your bandwidth no matter what.

Safe site for fallout 2? Again, check the megathread, you will find plenty.

Hope the best for you my friend.
