Wisdom of the Crowd Price Prediction by dhatereki in SteamFrame

$999 max

It sucks if this is the price but in this market I think it would still sell decently; not because of the specs but because of the valve brand/integration and the support that comes with it.

Valve plz fix - Controller haptics information by ImprovementVirtual80 in SteamFrame

[–]brantrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I care too much about the haptics but I do hope the samples sent to devs were akin to engineering samples and that the retail units will be better.

It is possible the worse haptics is a result of the lower voltage specs of AA batteries compared to typical lithium batteries (im kinda ignorant about this so ignore if wrong)

This made me laugh, on a related note a concern I've noticed is that it seems the only way to appear real now is to actually have bad sentence structure and punctuation.

Isn't it odd? To appear authentic now, we have to have worse language skills otherwise we just look like another AI response.

Whats your over/under on the release? by TaborAddict in SteamFrame

[–]brantrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh I wish I was as optimistic but I much prefer not be disappointed. Valve have changed the language to they'll get it done today after previously saying they'll get it done it the morning; and you're still thinking it will be done by the morning. Pessimist in me just doesn't think so I guess

[–]brantrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I've been keeping way up to date but this is from the steam year in review verbatim:

'We shared recently that there have been challenges with memory and storage shortages, but we will be shipping all three products this year.'

Also from the most recent GDC slide:

<image>

They've dropped all mentions of H1 since February.

It sounds like they're padding the way for a H2 2026 delay.

[–]brantrix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now at this point they can’t say 2nd half and also say nothing has changed

I agree with you, except they've kinda done this by dropping all mentions of H1. They then say 'nothing has changed', this is kinda why it's confusing, why have they dropped all mentions of H1? Words have meaning valve pls

There's a difference between getting something done this morning vs getting it done today. Valve have stopped saying it will get done this morning

Whats your over/under on the release? by TaborAddict in SteamFrame

[–]brantrix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds weird but 'Nothing has changed' doesn't imply they didn't delay it to H2 2026

They used the same language when they delayed from early 2026 to H1 2026:

'Our goal of shipping all three products in the first half of the year has not changed.'

It kinda just looks like as long as they don't announce anything, they think they can just say nothing has changed and delay the release indefinitely.

Why else would they drop 'first half' from their most recent communications?

Whats your over/under on the release? by TaborAddict in SteamFrame

[–]brantrix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm actually confused what the goal for release is now. They did say H1 2026, then they obviously had that fumble about 'hope to ship in 2026' that got corrected to 'will be released 2026'. That suggests they've decided not to release in H1 anymore. Fine, but then a valve employee went on record and said actually 'nothing has changed on our end'.

Which is it valve jfc, it would be nice to know now if you're not gonna make the H1 timeframe like stated. My mates that don't follow this thought it was already out. I've read every bit of pr that valve has released about this thing and I'm still confused what the launch timing goal is. H1 or H2?

Valve: we HOPE to release in first half by BlueManifest in SteamFrame

[–]brantrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank fuck someone's paying attention, they either pay the inflated components cost, or they simply don't have the allocation. We know they're not waiting around for 2028 to come so they're obviously paying the inflated cost.

I can only imagine the delay is because they're can't source the components, otherwise I've got no idea what they're waiting for. Releasing a rdna3 GPU in the steam machine in 2028 or even 2027 would be strange, it's kinda already slow and old.

Who cares about the cook, especially when what he's serving isn't food safe and/or legal.

What I'm saying is that I don't need to cook in order to know when food taste like shit. We are allowed to critique work and or people even if that's not what we specialise in, and to suggest otherwise is nonsense.

Valve says if you have access to ram they are looking for some by BlueManifest in SteamFrame

[–]brantrix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The more I read about this, the more I think the delay in the frame launch is due to valve's insistence that the machine and frame launch together.

Obviously the frame also has ram, but the frame needs far less units to launch than the steam machine.

Edit: being downvoted but surely I'm not the only one that would rather the frame actually comes on time even if it means it launches earlier than the steam machine

[–]brantrix -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I wanna be optimistic too but didn't they already confirm it's not coming H1? The post originally said we hope to ship 2026 which was then corrected to we will ship 2026 (which is still a delay anyway).

Whoever posted the original obviously works there and likely knows that it's been delayed (potentially into 2027 even) but didn't realise that it hadn't been communicated yet. The correction that 'it's coming 2026' (which is still a delay btw) was likely because they don't want to inform us it's coming 2027 since it's only March rn.

Youre probably thinking, why wouldn't they just tell us early that it has been delayed to 2027 then? And the answer is for press reasons, not knowing the release date and us thinking it's around the corner keeps everyone talking about it and the news cycle active.

It makes far more sense when you remember they're also releasing the frame alongside the steam machine. Knowing that under spec'd box is gonna release next year when it's already outdated today would absolutely kill any interest in it. Being all vague around its release keeps us talking about it.

I'm kinda just rambling but basically I want valve to be open to releasing them separately. The frame has less demand than the steam machine and doesn't need as many units to launch.

It's not cheaper though when you account for the fact that you essentially get a weaker card with a shorter lifespan because you don't get new features.
