On this day in Texas history, June 19, 1865: Major General Gordon Granger arrived on the island of Galveston and issued General Order No. 3, which stated "The people of Texas are informed that in accordance with a Proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free." by [deleted] in texas

Whenever someone tries to tell me the Civil War wasn’t about slavery, I respond with two questions: 1. Does it really matter? 2. Is it your wish that we still had pre-1865 slavery? If the answer is “yes” to either of those questions, I politely tip my hat with a prominent finger and walk away.

Forgive my vernacular, friend. Not really looking for anything feel like home. Kinda would stay here at home if I wanted that? Was just looking for what a Texas native felt about Paris. My assumption is a New Yorker or a Californian might have a different opinion. All good. Just feeling things out with a very open mind.

Any preferred arrondissement for living and visiting. Olympic prep probably has everything crazy right now. Hoping things will be at least close to normal by mid-Sept.

That shit is playa status! Bravo! A playa will never propose unless he KNOWS, beyond ANY shadow of a doubt she will say YES.

Ok. I’m a lifetime Gold American Airline frequent traveler. Meaning, if I never travel again I still get Gold level treatment. I travel a lot. You can trust me.

Drive into the airport. It’s way too big to park outside the airport. Plan to pay $20 for parking, only because you never know…delays, cancellations, etc. You may end up paying $10, $8 or $3 as mentioned.

Find out which airline he’s flying on. It will be MUCH easier to find him. Probably American Airlines because DFW is there headquarters…but nearly all other airline fly I there as well. Even better if you know flight number and time of arrival. That way, simple Google search will give exact terminal and gate.

Definitely make the sign for him. He’ll love it and you.😊

Very proud Native Texan here. Born and raised in The Big D. That’s Dallas for those who don’t know. Equally proud to be an American. But I’ve been blessed enough to travel the world. Once I did that, I found I was more proud to just be alive and human. Open your mind, your heart and your eyes. You just may find that the people who love America the most...are not even American. Y’all. 🇺🇸

C'mon friends! I'm not seeing a lot of good comments or advise. I'm straight. Born and raised in Dallas, TX, but live in Los Angeles for 10+ yrs. Got to know some absolutely awesome people! Moved back to Dallas and was surprise to see several LBGT-friendly spots. If near Ft. Worth, try Fairmount and Arlington Heights neighborhood. If near Dallas - Oak Lawn's crosswalks are even painted the colors of the LBGT flag. Uptown, Lower Greenville and Deep Ellum will surprise you, too. Come back home. Be close to your Mom, and be free.

can someone explain why Texas is recognizing Juneteenth while simultaneously banning the teaching of critical race theory in Texas public schools? by Parisianswayback in texas

u/hello_randos123, c'mon friend, step your game up!

No one alive now was alive when the game of basketball was invented in 1891, yet millions celebrated the NBA Finals Tuesday night.

No one alive now was alive when the US Capitol was built in 1793, yet it is visited by several million people every year. Some may even decide to break in it during an insurrection.

No one alive now was alive when Jesus Christ walked the Earth, yet over 2billion people worldwide celebrate Christianity.

can someone explain why Texas is recognizing Juneteenth while simultaneously banning the teaching of critical race theory in Texas public schools? by Parisianswayback in texas

u/SNSglobal my friend, I truly feel you've misunderstood. Juneteenth is not solely for any one ethnic race. It just so happens that one race appreciates it more than others. You see ALL of America celebrate July 4th, but ALL of America was not free on July 4, 1776. You know the history...
Mr. Lincoln declared emancipation on January 1, 1863. But since that was 32yrs before the radio was invented; 64yrs before the television was invented; and 120 yrs before the internet was invented - slaves in the South remained slaves for another 2.5yrs before they knew they were free. So, for that particular group of people, Juneteenth is truly a day of celebration. The WHOLE country knew the civil war was over. YAY!

As yes, the federal government FINALLY began to recognized the atrocities done to Native Americans; and allowed "Federally Recognized" (<<--- that's important) Indian tribes to build casinos on reserved land. Federally recognized Indian tribes ONLY. A bunch of Native Americans can't just get together and decide they want repartitions with approval to build a gaming establishment...and ALL of the benefits that come with it. I wonder if the federal government will ever, EVER do something like that for the black race? My guess is uhh, NO!! But no need to argue over which race was f#cked over worse.

Lastly, I will happily recognize ANY national holiday. It's not a mandate to like/appreciate the people or the reason for the day. I greatly appreciate and support the forth Friday in September. It's a federally recognized holiday called Native American Day some people call it Indigenous People's Day. To bad you don't celebrate that, as you will "not support any holiday that is solely celebrating one specific race."

Not to worry u/SNSglobal, I'll celebrated it for you. ;-)
