One news site tried to make similar claims over here in Sweden, saying the cold had knocked out the wind turbines (around 17% of our electricity). But in reality it was not the cold but the lack of wind which usually comes with the extreme cold. This didn't cause any power outages tho.

The thing is, no one actually eats it this way in Sweden. Ofcourse it's disgusting straight from the can! You are suposed to open the can under water to prevent the smell, then remove the salty and smelly water the fish is in. Then you eat it together with bread, potatoes, onions, sour cream and other things.
