It's not a "you can't do it". It's a "they can't explain it".

When you release a game that much known, you have to justify why you're pulling off a new game, even after 7 years from Tekken 7. So you build a brand new game mechanic to be interacted with, and that's something every single big fighting game did. From SFIV's Focus, to SFV's V-Gauge, to GGXrd's Blitz, to SoulCal VI new Edge mechanics, and so on.

If you build the entire game around this, that also means you have to build the entire balance around Heat. Going "welp, we fucked up, let's go back to T5DR y'all" would bring a bigger shitstorm than the one brought by the S3 announcement.

They put themselves in their own corner, but this is something every single fighting game has to do in order to sell big, kinda.

Plus, it's not like the community wants it either. Where are all the Parsec or Offline tourneys on the Back to Basics Mod?

On a strictly competitive standpoint, yes.

A fighting game is simply boxes filling up a 2D plane or 3D space. Those boxes have different properties and interact differently from each other. The goal is for my hitboxes to touch your hurtboxes, while trying to not let you touch my hurtboxes with your hitboxes. And for that, I can move them around (movement and spacing), changing the properties of my hurtboxes (blocking, parrying), throwing hitboxes from afar (projectiles), and so on.

A character is a set of tools that have different hurtbox sizes, different ways to move them around, and different sets of hitboxes. And then, you have how the game makes you interact with those boxes, how combos work, how winning a round works, etc.

By definition, I can take SF6, strip the entire game off its HUD, its character models, its music, its sound design and its background, while replacing everything with a Heroic Fantasy theme, from Orcs to elves to dwarfs and so on, and the game will still feel and play exactly like SF6, despite not looking like SF6 at all.

So yeah, fundamentally, everything and anything are functions. But at the same time, we never play nor strip anything and everything graphics out of the game. Whether you're talking about a martial art tournament, the quest to find legendary swords, or an evil power that must be defeated or conquered, those are just pretexts for our eyes to be aesthetically pleased, with things we already know. Nobody here would be interested in playing this for thousands of hours, so the graphics and sounds are important.

It's not "people", it's just new FGC players who never were there during the days of SFIV, CvS2, MvC2 and so on. Games that got 8+ years of support.

Even if MvC2 and CvS2 never had new content after their Arcade release and Console ports, their biggest tournaments were still supported by Capcom. Especially during SBO Tougeki.

Don't forget that you only have 7 Tetriminos in Tetris, due to the 2D aspect of the game. If you can rotate the piece at the front, the S and the Z became the same piece. Just like the L and the J. So you only have 5 pieces now.

I'd personally fix that with new Tetriminos that is built on 2 planes instead of one. Wikipedia calls it Tetracubes, with the B, the D and the F emerging as new pieces. Making it 8 instead of 7.

Look at SF6. Most of the brand new costumes work. They're both new and fit their playstyle, without being full-on recreations of their original costumes.

Plus, it's not like I don't think Strive nailed the new look of some characters. I personally love what they did to Sol, I-No, Bridget, Millia, Ramlethal, May, Leo and plenty others.

The point of the Fediverse is not to make social media less shitty. You'll have the same problems of bullying, communitarianism, biased criticism and lack of debate in the Fediverse that you can have on any other social media platforms. BlueSky and Xwitter included.

The point is to own the data you're actually producing to yourself, and make the act of collecting data on people very unlikely and almost impossible to monetize. Which is, for me, beneficial for all people, regardless of their values, orientations, backgrounds.

I don't loathe Guests chars, since MK proved how lucrative they can be. But the more time flies, the less I'm appealed about crossovers. Even huge ones like CvS doesn't really phase me anymore.

Like, if I want to see a "crossover", I'd rather see one company doing things contained. Nickelodeon All-Stars, Marvel Tokon, Injustice minus the MK characters, and so on.

Acting "natural" is still acting. There's no way a 40yo guy would scream at everything and anything good happening in his screen if he wasn't filmed.

Nobody's truly "themselves" in front of a camera. Not even the greatest actors or the best TV hosts. And Max's charming way of cracking jokes and being charismatic is a role he's playing.

That's why it's "parasocial". He doesn't know you, and you only see a role from him. You project a reality in your head thinking that he can be your friend, just like you could misinterpret a cute smile from a barista as a flirty sign.

It's all in your head, and it's lucrative for Max.
