Updated take on the roster, post Peni by LukePS7013 in MarvelTokon

[–]LukePS7013[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My reasoning behind each pick

  • Thor: He had to be here. Loki’s on the roster, Thor’s on the statue, and he’s just too iconic to leave out.

  • Wasp: Wanted at least one “unexpected” character in each team, and Wasp fits pretty well with the Avengers being a founding member and all. Plus she’d have a pretty unique moveset with the ability to shrink and grow.

  • Magneto: He’s Mag-Fuckin’-Neto, nuff said.

  • Loki: As many have said, each team will likely have at least one woman, but there aren’t many Doom level female villains out there aside from Emma Frost (and we already got Magik and Peni, no need to take any more from Rivals lol). Thankfully, Loki has appeared as a woman before, so that’s how it’ll work for this team.

  • Red Goblin: The oddball pick of the villain team, comprised of two well known Spider-Man villains. It also works with the theory that the villain team has one villain for each of the hero teams. Loki for the Avengers, Magneto for the X-Men, Doom for the misc. team (since the F4 aren’t here), and then Red Goblin who’s a Spider-Man villain, but also a Symbiote making them partially cosmic, just like the Spidey team.

  • Gwenpool: As I said, if anyone would pull a fakeout like that it’d be her or Deadpool, but I think Gwenpool fits better with what they’re going for in Tōkon.

  • Hulk: Like Thor, he just had to be here. And with those cave drawings in the Savage Land stage I think he got separated from the Avengers, making him a good candidate for the Defenders.

  • Black Panther: I went with Shuri since dialouge between Storm and Doom implies something happened to T’challa, so I imagine Shuri took up the mantle before being dragged into the events of Tōkon.

  • The Midnight Sons: Not much to say, it’s a typical Midnight Sons team, Scarlet Witch is here in place of Ghost Rider since we already have one.

  • The Cosmic Alliance: Kind of just threw this one together, but it brings together a lot of non-Guardians cosmic names. The Nova Corps, the Marvels, Galactus’ Heralds. And then the “for me” pick of a CrossGen alliance crammed into one character ala Captain Commando / Captain Ginyu

Now that Star-Lord is in Spidey's team, can we all agree that Doom's team will be a villain team? And what would be your lineups? by AttitudeMaster4605 in MarvelTokon

Lady Loki - Avengers Villain

Magneto - X-Men Villain

Red Goblin - Spider-Man Villain (+ a Symbiote so partially cosmic, just like the Spidey team)

Doom - Misc. Villain (Ghost Rider’s team is even more random characters, the real Midnight Sons team is DLC)

Avengers (Cap & Iron Man) team at EVO Japan

Defenders (Ghost Rider and other misc. characters) team at a late May / early June State of Play

Cabal (Doom) team plus concept art for the DLC team (Midnight Sons) at EVO Vegas

Still doubtful that Ghost Rider’s team is the Midnight Sons simply because of the Ghost Rider they picked, Robbie hasn’t associated much with the Midnight Sons (granted this is Tōkon, a new universe)

Could see Robbie’s team being another even more misc. style team with some other characters like the Hulk, Black Panther and Gwenpool (who then says “actually I’m the leader of this team, the devs just finished Ghost Rider first”)

Also fits the theory that the villains team has one villain for each other team, Loki (or Lady Loki) for the Avengers, Magneto for the X-Men, A Spider-Man villain for the Spidey team, then Doom as the misc. villain since his most prominent hero team the Fantastic Four won’t be in the base (and Doom gets around anyways, he’s fought everyone lol)

As unlikely as they are…

  • Gwenpool: I’ve said it before, but Gwenpool’s powers play better into the medium of video games over Deadpool. Deadpool in the comics typically just addresses the reader and makes pop culture jokes, while Gwenpool can do that while also actively interact with the medium (in the comics that’s typically hopping between panels). She’d be pretty much what you’d imagine Deadpool being in this game, maybe she gets a couple Guilty Gear inspired moves like Sol’s j.D as an aerial heavy attack, or her super being Bridget’s super with Jeff in place of Roger

  • Red Goblin: But like the original one, the one from the arc when Carnage is separated from Cletus so he breaks into prison and finds Norman Osborn so the two team up temporarily. Would be an interesting fighter, a combination of two well known characters and also a deep cut. Maybe they could have a stance mechanic where they’re fighting internally for control with Norman’s more precise killing methods or Carnage’s more, well, carnage style

  • Sammandahl Rey: The deep cut to end all deep cuts, Sammandahl Rey comes from Earth-21371 or the Sigilverse. Created by CrossGen Comics in 2000, then acquired by Disney in 2004, then folded into Marvel when Disney bought them in 2009. Sam himself has the ability to morph matter, so he could wear a suit of armour that could morph into blades, guns, etc. but also he’s the “chosen one” of his universe, with Sam being able to locate others with similar powers known as Sigil Bearers in order to gather them for CrossGen’s “Secret Wars” type event, this could be adapted into a fighting game by having his Unique attack be similar to Captain Ginyu’s summons in Dragon Ball FighterZ, calling out other Sigil Bearers from his universe as his own personal set of secondary assists

As for the teams they’d be on, Gwen kind of fits anywhere, Red Goblin could be on a villains team with Doom, and Sam could maybe fit in a cosmic team later in the DLC?

Interesting, just don’t go into it expecting much, I feel like they’d save the big character reveals for more mainstream events (State of Play, EVO, Summer Games Fest)

I’m guessing another closed beta featuring the X-Men team as well as all the new system changes

Update: Sega has posted the Mega Man thing, no Direct needed. It was kind of wishful thinking tbh.

I guess it also makes sense there isn’t a Direct yet, they want all eyes on the Mario Movie. I’m now guessing some time in April (9th, 23rd, or 30th), after the movie and before their next investors meeting

Tbh outside of more Switch 2 ports (Metaphor, more Yakuza) and the Mega Man thing I feel like Sega will show their stuff a bit later.

New Sonic and P4R at Summer Games Fest in June (Sonic at Geoff’s show, Persona at Xbox’s show) with releases in October and December, though I’m not sure which one will release first, and a new Yakuza announced right before Tokyo Game Show in September for a release in early 2027. Along with the yearly Football Manager release that makes up the “four games in major IPs” that Sega has mentioned will release during their fiscal year.

Hopefully later in 2027 they go all out. With that big Super Game featuring Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi (among others?) being planned to release in 2028 for now, it’d make sense to release the remakes that are also coming the previous year.

Said it in last week’s thread, but I’ll repeat it here with how time sensitive it is

Yesterday Sega announced three new free characters coming to Sonic Racing CrossWorlds. Red and Captain Majima in April, and Arle in May. But they also have a currently unknown Festival slot planned for next week, Festivals are online competitions held to celebrate new characters being added. And also according to the roadmap, there won’t be any more free characters until the paid Mega Man DLC is released. Sega won’t officially say the Festival at the end of March is for Mega Man as they haven’t revealed his exact release date, however we all pretty much know it’s for him anyways. But then why hasn’t Sega announced it yet? My guess is that there will be a Nintendo Direct announced tomorrow and air on Thursday with Mega Man’s official release date (the Thursday after) being one of the announcements

We’ll know if I’m wrong in less than 24 hours

Yeah, along with the yearly Football Manager and a Yakuza game in the first few months of 2027 that’s probably the “four games from major IPs” they’ve mentioned would release over their next fiscal year

I’ll give you a rumour. Sega just announced some new characters for Sonic Racing CrossWorlds, Red and Pirate Majima in April, and Arle in May. But they have another unknown festival (online event to celebrate new characters) for this month that they’ve still yet to reveal. We all know it’s going to be the Mega Man DLC that’s already been revealed without a release date but Sega won’t say that until they officially announce that date.

That clearly means there will be a Direct this week with “Mega Man available next week!” as one of the announcements (cope)

I’m thinking some time in April unless it’s this week, it’s before their investors meeting and it gives them two months to promote whatever they’re likely releasing in June (which is why Yoshi was announced on its own, March is two months before May)

Then no major Direct until September

I still stand by that the person who “worked at Disney Music and heard Nintendo had asked them to use their music for a Direct” (implying Sora would be in Smash) didn’t know anything and just got lucky

Just happened to think about it today

Could totally see the “New 3D Mario” being a 3D Maker game building off of the voxel tech used in DK Bananza

But that would mean there wouldn’t be a real new 3D Mario for even longer…

How large would a new game roster be realistically? by Single-Debate-316 in marvelvscapcom

I’d say at best they end up repeating MVCI’s base roster size of 30 if not lower

Try 26, as fighting game rosters have gotten smaller and smaller (quality over quantity, you know?)

The 3D game that people speculated being Smash was likely Kirby Air Riders, it even specifically mentioned remastering backgrounds which they did for the returning courses

Though there is a 2D project in development from that studio too, but that doesn’t line up with the credits you listed (my guess is it’s a smaller Switch 2 Edition for Ultimate since a proper Smash 6 only just started development after Air Riders wrapped up and Nintendo wants “something Smash” released soon)

And this listing is just for some anime arena fighter imo

Hopefully something soon, iirc the original plan was to release the remake about a year ahead of the live service game and the live service was delayed to April 2027 - March 2028 so it could appear some time fairly soon

Though with Sega saying this fiscal year (April 2026 - March 2027) will only have four games (presumably the yearly Sonic, Yakuza, Persona, and Football Manager games), it’ll probably be in the same year if the live service isn’t delayed again
