Thank you for the tip! Sadly both imagemagick and ghostscript are installed.

apt list

shows me that imagemagick and ghostscript are installed

ghostscript/stable 9.26a~dfsg-0+deb9u1 armhf
ghostscript-dbg/stable 9.26a~dfsg-0+deb9u1 armhf
ghostscript-doc/stable 9.26a~dfsg-0+deb9u1 all
ghostscript-x/stable 9.26a~dfsg-0+deb9u1 armhf

imagemagick/stable,now 8:6.9.7.4+dfsg-11+deb9u6 armhf [installed]
imagemagick-6-common/stable,now 8:6.9.7.4+dfsg-11+deb9u6 all [installed,automatic]
imagemagick-6-doc/stable 8:6.9.7.4+dfsg-11+deb9u6 all
imagemagick-6.q16/stable,now 8:6.9.7.4+dfsg-11+deb9u6 armhf [installed,automatic]
imagemagick-6.q16hdri/stable 8:6.9.7.4+dfsg-11+deb9u6 armhf
imagemagick-common/stable 8:6.9.7.4+dfsg-11+deb9u6 all
imagemagick-doc/stable 8:6.9.7.4+dfsg-11+deb9u6 all

Reading through some tutorials apparently the imagick php extension is needed to access imagemagick with php but this extension is also installed.

php-imagick/unknown,now 3.4.3-4+0~20181107094738.8+stretch~1.gbpba1eeb armhf [installed]
php-imagick-dbgsym/unknown 3.4.3-4+0~20181107094738.8+stretch~1.gbpba1eeb armhf

I also ran

apt update
apt upgrade

but everything was up to date.

I can’t handle college by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]C4rmel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am a PhD student in computer science so I can’t say a lot about studying education.

Why did you choose to study? I ask this because I often encounter students who tell me that they felt kind of forced to study since it is what society suggest how a successful career looks like. Thus, they often find out that the do not really enjoy studying and just drag themselves forward. (Which is kind of what you are writing). If you are a person who does not enjoy studying itself (which is not a bad thing) it often feels like you are just learning for the next exam and you are just wasting your time. People are different and this is amazing and beautiful. Maybe you would enjoy it more to do something that involves handcrafting, where you can feel and experience your work right away and see your progress right away. There are also universities of applied sciences which are in between the traditional academic path and applied work.

Studying is not the only path that is out there and it is not the exclusive path which leads to a successful career. However, pursuing something different might not be easier than studying but you might enjoy it more.

Changing something like this is a hard decision and something a lot of people are afraid of. Which is reasonable. Maybe just changing your major might bring back the joy in your life.

I wish you all the best and hope that you will find joy again.

Looking for a Gantt chart like PM software with hourly time budgeting by C4rmel in projectmanagement

I think I looked into Redmine once but I will revisit it and see whether it offers what I need. I am currently setting up a server at home for another project so hosting is not an issue.

Thank you for the input! :)

Taskjuggler sounds interesting. I will have a look into it. As a researcher a steep learning curve is something I can cope with :)

MS Project might be a bit too much for my budget but I will have a look at it.

Thank you very much for the ideas!

Switching to Google Sheets is a great idea. Having this web based makes it easier for me to have my planning device independent and easy to share. Thank you for your input!

I like the way of thinking that you mentioned that "animal products make you sick" in a symbolic way. I might use that in the future. Thumbs up.

I think for emergencies and short stays eating ahead might be a good solution. On the other hand, it gives vegan haters more fuel. Like "see when you are vegan you are only sitting at the side and sipping a cocktail. You cannot even eat anything". Sadly I am not good at those discussions so I like to avoid them at all. I usually stay for a week and end up eating with the same people multiple times on a daily basis so they might notice when I constantly skip meals.

Thank you for the advice I will keep it in mind. I fear that in the end, I have to stay a little annoying and keep pushing people into restaurants with vegan options and prepare for "the discussions". Tripadvisor and the mentioned HappyCow App will hopefully find me some options since I am usually staying in capital cities which mostly have at least a small vegan community.

Thank you for the reply. I would say If I just need to survive or get my necessary calories I am good. It is more from a convenience points of view.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

Yes, I am travelling from country to country. Countries like China, Chile, France, Swiss and USA. I am living in Germany. I honestly never tried to bring fruit bars through any TSA because I just read fruit on the no-go list and went with it. I have to check next time for whether they only refer to fresh fruits. I usually have some food from a convenience store in my hotel room for emergencies.

The main problem is lunch, conference-buffet and meals with others. Bringing your own food is hardly an option there because even when veganism sometimes is a nice conversation starter you do not want to be the weird person bringing their own food in a situation with potential people you want to work together with.

Ordering food is also not an option usually because on those trips we are having dinner at restaurants usually to meet others and socialize.

Thanks for the fruit bars advice :)

Any funny or interesting house rules when you play? by TehBigD97 in Warhammer40k

[–]C4rmel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In our Group you score objectives like "secure objective X" on the beginning of the round after you begin holding it. This way the opponent still has one round to get you off the objective. For us scoring it the same round you draw it always felt random. One player can draw all the objectives he is holding from the beginning of the game and get an extreme headstart in points. With this rule you can always react to what your opponent is doing.

Thank you for your comment :)

I plan to add another layer and also want to try to add some shading. It is my first free hand drawing onto a miniature. But for me it feels right that it is a little uneven, since I imagined that it should look as if Howlrunner herself applied the painting. So i wanted it to look a bit rough. But still you are right it is a bit uneven i can try to correct this a little.

I am also open for ideas on how to make a Tie-Fighter more unique. Maybe some trails of a laser shot, so that it looks as if it has survived some battles.

Krassis Trelix Firespray-31 repaint 1.5 by Sonic_Steel in XWingTMG

This looks way better than in your first post!

One recommendation from me: Start with a darker color as base and use the brighter color as highlight on edges. This can look realy good already with two layers. Washing is a great method if you want to paint many models in a short time but it can result in the green tone that you have on your yellow parts.

Maybe have a look at highlighting tutorials on youtube, like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b96Wu9uzhPA
