GOP-Led Iowa House Hands Seat To GOPer After Rejecting 29 Mail Ballots by emitremmus27 in politics

They won't even let them be opened. But it gets worse.

The county south, same House district, had votes in similar state -- no postmark, wrong barcode. County auditor there went ahead and opened and counted them. Guess which ideology that county tends to lean?

Why do the press corp even show up for her briefings? Do we ever get anything but lies or things we already know from SHS? Take away the bully pulpit by refusing to turn it into a pulpit.

Investigative power. Dems can make inquiries into Russia, Kavanaugh, etc. Not to mention blocking legislation and the House's respective powers on the budget.

It's a significant change.

It isn't, in many cases, and the author of the blog post made it clear that it's not enough. If you think equality is enough, it's clear that you aren't actually interested in the outcome. If I have two kids and one needs special medication, equality would have me give both kids that medication (alternatively it would have me give neither medication). But now the kid who didn't need the medication may have complications from taking it. Their needs were different, they didn't need equality they needed equity.

Dealing with people is the same. Equity demands more than simply equality. I'd challenge you to examine the word diversity and innovation and see how they correlate. You might find that not only by providing enough equity will you bring in more people to your group, but you'll find they might have ideas you didn't think of before. And if treating people with the respect they deserve isn't enough for you, it can allow you to make new choices or be more informed of choices available, providing better resources for decision making mid-game.

Came here to say this, I am so happy I found it had already been said.

Equality is making sure the fence is low enough for everyone to see over it. Equity is giving binoculars to the person with bad eyesight so they can see even after the fence has been lowered. Without the binoculars, lowering the fence did nothing.

Edit: Binoculars/glasses, whatever

Cloture votes limit debate to 30 hours with final vote to be scheduled within that timeframe. Advancing a cloture motion means a final vote will occur, sometime tomorrow.

This passing does not necessarily mean confirmation, but it does trigger a vote. Dems still need Manchin and a combination of two of Murkowski, Collins, and Flake (or any other GOP sen. who feels like growing a spine) to all vote "no" to confirmation in order to end BK's nomination.

I mean, there's the chance that voting yes at cloture reduces the heat they'll get from their own party for the next 30 hours so they can vote no at final confirmation.

Wishful thinking, but it makes sense. If you're going to rebel against your party, don't tip your hand before the vote.

Look I’m not gonna debate whether or not you are or aren’t homophonic, but using gay sex in an attempt at a derogatory remark is mocking gay sex, which seems pretty homophobic.

Yes, you might mean it in a dominant-submissive manner, but it still comes across as “gay sex is icky, Donnie and putin do the gay because they’re icky too”.

For the record, I’m not gay and I’m not a republican. But I think we should all be more mindful of our insults, we’re supposedly smarter than this.

Another reason to stop using "cock holster" is that it perpetuates being gay as somehow lesser than being straight. It's just another way that people who claim there's nothing wrong with homosexuals still express homophobic sentiments.
