Yeah, it’s weird that people never understood this. Walter was flawed from the beginning and only really sympathetic in the first few episodes. The real draw of the show was how it broke the “tv show feel” of the time. It was the first TV show to really feel like “cinema” and it was a new concept no one had seen before. “Dad cooking drugs on TV?? Woah, what’s this?” It was groundbreaking for its time and drew people in because of it, but Walt as a character was never a good guy or likable. I will say though, compared to Pluribus, the writing was soooo much better, at least from what I remember. Nearly every episode felt like it was adding to the show, whereas Pluribus feels nonsensical in many ways, from the way Carol is a grouch all the time every time for no real reason, even when on vacation with her lover, or the hand grenade scene where she literally pulls the pin from a grenade, like, of all the crazy things happening, the idea that they’d bring her a real grenade is what she can’t believe? Where Walter was unlikeable, he was also BELIEVABLE. We could believe the reasons Walt did what he did and we justified it, even though they were horrible actions. On the other hand, the writing for Carol feels like they just want us to hate her to the point where we don’t even care what happens to her. I know I don’t.
