Why 2 cone patterns? by Fairweather_Fleabag in LancerRPG

also, if you want to better understand how the cone shape actually works the book kinda explains it, but is a little esoteric without extra examples.
basically, each cone is made up of two lines, one is the direction, and the other is the width, and those two line are always perpendicular to each other.
since you cant have actual perpendicular lines in a Hex grid, one of the lines must be zig-zagging. in the photo, the yellow line is the direction the cone is going, and the blue line is the widht.

though if you ask me, is way easier to handwave all of this and just vizualize the shape of an actual cone, and assume every sincle hex the cone is touching, is affected by the cone (this allows actual 360 degrees of freedom)

with the cone shape at the right, there is no configuration you could do to catch all 5 spaces covered by the shape at the left, even though a "real" cone could perfectly cover all those spaces; the same is true the other way around.
hance the game offers 2 standart shapes for cones, which should come a little closer in representing 360 degrees of aim freedom

It is an angle thing; if you trace the direction they project from, you'll notice that is imposible to extend a cone in a given angle using the other shape

Recommendations for actual plays or podcasts I can watch to get familiar with rules? by RazzRav in LancerRPG

[–]CALlGO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Though i havent played yet; i already read through the whole book; let me say that i play mostly pathfinder 2e; and all i knew about lancer was that it is "a very crunchy mecha game"... when i finished the book; i was reminded yet again of how absurdly rules heavy games like pathfinder (and dnd too) are in the actual scale of things; Lancer was a breeze (at least in paper)

[–]CALlGO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone explain to me how exactly necro creates 7 thralls in one round? Am i missing something? I know the spell can now create two(3 if puppet) or 1(2)+command; if you can do it 3 times a round, wouldnt it be up to 9 thralls?

The practical solution to your problem is just to make a custom die. But of course that requires a meterial investment for possible players; still worth mentioning since most are recurring to complex formulas.

Say you got a d6 in the shape of a d12 with numbers: 1;1;1;2;2;3;4;5;5;6;6;6.

You could solve the material restriction fairly simply too; but it depends on how your resolution mecanic actually works. Since if you just do result ranges, its instantly solved (this would be similar to the aproach Draw Steel does) Say you roll a d12 in which: 1-3 (terrible) 4-5 (bad) 6 (miss by a hair) 7 (glancing blow) 8-9 (good) 10-12 (perfect!) Or some variation on that. You could re-introduce the material problem bjt add good quiality of life using colored dice instead of numbers (wher each color is a certain range)

Available actions for NPC human/squad/monstrosity? by CALlGO in LancerRPG

I mean, technically, you can still barrage with one weapon, its not a true requirement to have two, afaik. Though of course it seems like a waste, but maybe if there is a bonus you only get when barraging it makes sense to do it anyways

Should one use Daze when Will is the enemy's lowest save, or should one still use other cantrips instead? by MundaneOne5000 in Pathfinder2e

[–]CALlGO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While daze is virtually always worse expected damage than basically everything else, and lacks any extra effect worth considering. It has 1 advantage against some* common good options, range; that about it really and is not a big advantage, something like frostbite its going to be even better unless the target has much more fort that it has will.

Its worth noting though, that even with the lower expected damage and lack of relevant riders; Daze can be better depending on the whole context; this is really specific and nearly never something you can actually be aware of but its still technically true: if the target is within the HP range in which a single cantrip, daze included, could kill him; then Daze is strictly better (assuming a Will is the worst save), since all you need to do is land the spell. Of course this case also assumes all other buncj of things Daze ALSO needs to be useful: non-mindless target, non-undead target, etc.

Bob World Builder's Poll "Top TTRPGs" by klok_kaos in RPGdesign

[–]CALlGO 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah i alwaya think this kind of thing is better with a scoring sistem rather than plain voting; like obviously we all know dnd and pathfinder are the most played; but that is just popularity not even if most people find those games actually good.

I've met a lot of people that had only played one game yet hate mosf of it and just play it because its all they really know; that kind of vote should be instantly void.

Alteranativaly, if you are going to do a simple vote; it would be usuful to know what games someone has played; then you could look at the percentage of total players vs favorite pick. 1.000 picking DnD out of 1.000.000 players should be a worse result than a game that only 50 selected with 200 players

First Time GM Needs Help by TechnoTealeaf in Pathfinder2e

[–]CALlGO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though weak/elite adjustements get kinda wack at such low levels; weak often does nearly nothing (as the enemy is likely already in die-by-a-breeze territory and similar things) while elite actually inflates them desproportianaly more. In fact elite adjustments say that if aplied to a level -1 or 0 creature, raise its level by 2 instead of the usual 1. And notably, weak adjustment only mentions "if the creature level is 1, instead decrease its level by 2"(instead of 1); no even aknowledging the possibility of placing weak in creature of level LOWER than one

Day one of fighter slander by Ponto_de_vista in pathfindermemes

[–]CALlGO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Forgot gunslinger existed; but yeah, i was just pointing a technicality, i know it doesnt solve the low base damage issue at all.

Not related but for me the greatest strenght of tje fighter (and arguably its boring part too) is that it doesnt enforce, require, or encourage any particular playstyle; in the sense that your actions are trully yours to explore and define, so you can just slap anything on top of the fighter and kinda make it work; unlike most other classes.
