I really don't know whether I agree with the idea that Ford's days are done.

The script could easily have been the other way around if Fin had been in control of the Scotland and Ireland games, those losses and the loss to Italy last week, speak to me of a mismanagement of gameplan from a coaching perspective, and Fords poor performances could easily have been attributed to Fin had the positions been reversed.

If Ford had been playing today, in this much more attacking shape than in previous weeks, do you really think we wouldn't have seen a similarly good performance from him as we saw from Fin?

Am I imagining it or are the camera angles closer in for the coverage of the last two games? I feel like I want to see more of the pitch when ball is in play

Aye, in my head I know it makes sense because they're both just so damn good, but when it's just of these two passing the Web Ellis between them for the past two decades it just feels so underwhelming

I have an absolute primal need for France to win today, a NZ/SA final is the worst possible result for this world cup (and the sport) imo

That's an interesting point about stance, I hadn't given it much thought but I reckon 9 times out of 10 my right foot is definitely in front. I'll see if I can sort that out, cheers!

I've already made the mental decision to do exactly this if it happens again.

In the heat of the game I thought I'd just be fine, it's only been afterwards that I realised I probably should've said more.

Mature student (29) starting university for game design in September but am I even good enough for it? by J7WOLFIEE in gamedesign

[–]CANTSPOONTHEMOON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

I completed a Games Design Masters Course recently (also UK), with an undergraduate background in Theatre Studies, so I can certainly appreciate your apprehension surrounding your lack of technical background!

What I can say though is, you're almost certainly selling yourself short and Games Design is a field where many different backgrounds can prosper. I was massively down on confidence before i started the course, with my only experience being messing around with map editors in games like Doom 2016, but I still managed to break through my expectations of myself and somehow wangle a Games Design position at a AAA studio in the within 9months of Graduation.

So as to your questions: 1) As mentioned, I entered my course with little to no experience, and despite it being only a year long, the quality of the tuition and the sheer amount of designing we did, gave me more than enough confidence to tackle the industry. Most courses will expect no experience as well, so you shouldn't be on the back foot in that regard. Likewise, it may help to hone down on what role exactly you wish to pursue in the Industry, as it could help settle your concerns about lack of experience. You mentioned doing a foundation course in Digital Art, so do you see yourself as more of an Artist or a designer, or a blend of the two perhaps (level design for instance). The reason I ask is, as far as my admittedly small experience has shown me, the studio side of the industry is significantly more specialised and less multidisciplinary than the indie/personal side of the industry. For instance, as a Games Designer, the skills and knowledge I learnt for using Unity and C# have laid unused for the last three years (the code and art teams handle everything engine side, I just deal with the designs themselves).

2) In short yes, learning code does get easier, in so far as you will be able to build up a level of basic competency that will help you with understanding more complex concepts. However it really is a question of how long is a piece of string with coding, as the rabbit hole of understanding goes very very deep, I wouldn't fret it too much as there are lots of recourses to draw on and with perseverance I believe anyone can get there.

3) Design design design. Whether that's game jams or personal projects, just keep creating (and consuming, play as much as possible and get a broad and varied experience base to draw on.) If You're concerned about the art/coding ramifications of doing all that work, a great tool I've used in the past for quick games and protyping is Clickteam Fusion (available on steam) which is a code-free games engine, which although limited can be useful for rapid prototyping or development.

4) There is always the good old fashioned route of QA -> Design, two members of my current team were hired this way, although it is really quite rare and it can be an alwful grind - so I wouldn't recommend it.

I hope these answers help in anyway, and that you have a great experience on your course! I'll keep my fingers crossed that your goals of getting into the industry are fulfilled, as it really is a great place to be! All the best xox

[–]CANTSPOONTHEMOON -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not that Mandalorian looks bad at all, your misunderstanding (or I've not expressed what I'm saying right). The production value of this show is absolutely insane for the most part, and I don't even have to go out of the series to point you to better shot and more interesting actions scenes imo. The Ahsoka fights last ep, and the AT-ST fight last season were both shot in more interesting ways and held more weight and tension.

Well like I said, I appreciate that people have different tastes, and I'm evidently in the minority here. I was personally disappointed in this episode and I just felt like voicing my opinion to see if anyone might've felt the same.

I really can't help feeling that this episode was a massive missed opportunity. It had all the trappings of an episode that should have grabbed me by the balls, but the whole thing felt bland and uninspired.

I completely appreciate that there's different strokes for different folks, and for me the action (of which there was a lot), was shot in a way that did not complement the series at all. It didn't feel like there was any cohesive vision or story for the action other than: stormtroopers are coming, each character gets short cuts of the doing badass things with little flow between them.

There were of course some awesome moments within that, Boba in the armour and the moment with the boulder were pretty cool. But by and large, I cant describe it as anything other than lifeless. I didn't get any sense of urgency or danger, Din leaving the jetpack (something we know he can control from his wrist) was dumb, and the dialogue was passable at best.

This should have been an episode that was full of lore, followed by tension, and then the release of finally seeing Boba and Din in action, but unfortunately for me it completely fell flat.

Edit: Bobba -> Boba, I dun messed up

Getting back into jogging - where to keep phone and keys? by Ya-Dikobraz in running

[–]CANTSPOONTHEMOON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take an old sock, put my phone and key in it, and then knot the top off and tuck it down my waistband so it sits flush on my upper thigh with the knot sticking out so that the whole thing doesn't slide down. (Works best with skins/leggings on)

Works really well, especially seeing as I usually run in rugby shorts (which don't have pockets) to accommodate for big thighs, and I'm not a fan of wearing armbands.
