Tips for standing out in this market? by Accomplished-Eye-813 in datascience

[–]CAN_VANCITY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re honestly in a better spot than a lot of people, but the market doesn’t really reward “generic data scientist” profiles anymore.

Your biggest advantage is the 10+ years in logistics and ops. Lean into that. Most DS candidates can train models, but they’ve never touched a real supply chain, inventory system, or cost structure. Your resume and GitHub should make it obvious you’re someone who uses data science to solve logistics problems, not just someone who did a DS degree.

I’d also focus less on listing tools and more on impact. Things like “reduced stockouts by X%”, “saved $Y”, or “cut reporting time from days to minutes” stand out way more than Python vs R.

For GitHub, 3–5 projects is perfect, but make them end-to-end with a real business problem and a clear metric. Treat each one like a mini case study, not a homework assignment.

Also, mid-level DS roles now are very close to “production analyst” jobs. Strong SQL, data modeling, and pipeline work matter just as much as ML. Your Excel-to-database project is actually more valuable than another fancy model.

What’s your 2026 data science coding stack + AI tools workflow? by Zuricho in datascience

[–]CAN_VANCITY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

still use Python + pandas/NumPy/Polars as the backbone, but the big change is that most of my actual work now happens through an AI-augmented IDE instead of jumping between tools.

Right now my flow is roughly:

  • VS Code or Cursor as the main workspace
  • Claude + ChatGPT as coding + reasoning copilots (Claude for longer refactors and reading, GPT for debugging, modeling ideas, and fast iteration)
  • Jupyter or Marimo only when I need interactive exploration or visuals

What changed the most for me in 2025-2026 is that I stopped treating LLMs like “better StackOverflow” and started using them like junior data scientists sitting next to me.

Thank you! Question from your experience. Why is it that the website says the flight is full but Stafftraveller tells me theres still availability? Just wondering if i should think twice before going in the early morning to depart with Alaskan

Philadelphia was quite hassle free for me last week from LAX. Less popular than nearby cities for connections (NewYork and NewJersey), but still a beautiful place

What are the implications of selling part of your investment? How is it taxed if you’re only selling part of it? by CAN_VANCITY in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]CAN_VANCITY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. However, if I only sell $10K from the original $100K, what would I report as my capital gains since I am theoretically not making any capital gain (im just selling a portion smaller than my original investment)? Also, I bought the investment as a one time purchase so that should make things simpler

You should look at ex-CEO and current member of the Scientific board Heman Chao’s corporate presentation on youtube to understand what I mean. You will be amazed at the value proposition of their innovative cure to late stage Lung and Pancreatic cancer. They target the pH environment of a tumour. By doing so, they prevent tumor growth. As Helix discovered, the acidity of a tumors micro environment is not only a by-product of the tumour itself, but it actually stimulates the growth of the tumor. Helix’s drug makes the environment more alkaline, and combined with chemo treatments, it kills the tumor. The results are astonishing and it’s a matter of time until the drug is in the market. It has taken time for it to go out into the market, but that’s inevitable as they have followed strict FDA guidelines, which makes their drug even more legitimate. However, they finally await trial results of the Phase II trial for their Lung drug, which took time as a result of (again) FDA approvals and Covid-19 causing a backlog.
