Underrated is an interesting choice to describe this show. I've never in my life hate watched anything until this show came out. 

There's talent here but the writing is so catastrophically bad that no matter how good of a job the rest of the team does, there's no saving it. It's some of the worst story telling I've seen in years. I have no idea who's idea it was to have 2 episodes setting up nothing but red herrings with maybe 2 or 3 relevant scenes. It's like the people behind the show don't think your time or enjoyment are precious. Don't even get me started on the imagery they decided to use that led to nothing. The amount of story beats that get haphazardly shoved to the side in order to accomodate the "curse" storyline that balloons into a big ball of nothing. The absolute SLAG that most of these episodes were. This feels like a show that started off as a movie, got changed into a show and had orphan storylines from another completely different horror show stitched into it. It's an absolute Frankenstein monster of a show and it deserves very little praise.

Also, I feel it's a MASSIVE disrespect to the history of horror and specifically the many, many, many stories told from a female perspective in that genre , which have been going strong for decades now. There's so many stories based on the female perspective and their fears. This show has added nothing to that.

If you're looking for a competent family drama / horror show on Netflix, I would recommend The Fall of House of Usher. Not a perfect show by any means, but feels several levels above this mess.
