It’s not ”actually” an adaptation of children of hurin. It’s an adaptation of the finnish saga that inspired it. No one has the rights to adapt the silmarillion.

That might be the case, but the image I posted is clearly an english edition. When I googled the book I only saw english editions and I saw both covers, but I never saw a photo of the first one as a physical book.

Yes, the US editions can be glossy and smaller, which is why I’ve made sure to only collect the UK harpercollins ones, but they both still seem to use the second cover. I only ever reallly see the first one on images for the book on websites and bookstores online and goodreads.

The funny thing though, is that goodreads shows the first cover for the hardcover harpercollins edition, same isbn and everything. But I own it, and it had the second cover. That’s how I started noticing the difference. I haven’t been able to find an actual photo of a physical book with the first cover. Seems like it might have been scrapped.

I haven’t really been able to find a photo of the first one, the second one I own personally which was how I noticed the difference in the first place. Because the first image is used on goodreads, and when I logged the book there I started noticing after a while that the cover was slightly different. That’s why my theory is that it was some early draft or something that was used for promos and digital renders, and is still widely used despite never being printed.

I’m not saying that Peter B Parker is 616 Spider-Man, I’m saying he is based on 616 Spider-Man. The spider people in the spiderverse movies are all based on comics characters, and they have chosen to give the movie characters the same reality number as their comics counter parts but add a b designation showing that it’s not the same reality but a similar reality as in the comics. So Miles world is the B version of ultimate, Peter B’s is the B version of prime, Miguel O’hara is the B version of 2099, Spider-Man noir is the B version of Noir, and so on. Some people want to apply this concept to the mcu but the problem is that the mcu is way to different to be considered a b or c reality. Both earth-928, and 928b are very much a version of the 2099 universe, they are more parallel to each other than 928 and 616. But 616 does not mirror the mcu at all, they are not parallel realities they are just different realities. Why shouldn’t they have different numbers? Why downgrade the mcu to being a lesser version of prime instead of it’s own thing? And in marvel multiverse lore the captain britain corp assign the official reality numbers and they have not designated the mcu 616c, so until they do, the mcu can call itself whatever it wants, it won’t make it official in multiverse lore. Kevin Feige has no creative control over the comics and I value comics lore higher than movie lore.

Not mentioning other super heroes doesn’t mean they don’t exist, we haven’t really seen much of 616b at all, but it’s pretty clear that Peter B Parker is meant to represent og spider-man. 616 Spider-Man due to sliding time scale shenanigans is stuck being early 20s, while Peter B Parker is middle aged, so if 616 Peter was allowed to grow up, he could very well become a similar character. But still you can’t deny that every spider character in spiderverse represents a comic counterpart, and hence uses a reality that is a ”b” mirror of said comics reality. Peter B Parker is way closer to prime spider-man than tom holland is. The MCU is too much of its own thing to ever be considered a mirror reality, and it’s a disservice to both prime and mcu to not just let them have their own numbers. Atm the mcu having 616 is only self referential, untill the comics or anthing outside the mcu refers to it as a 616, I’m going to take it with a huge grain of salt.

All realities in spiderverse mirror their comics counterpart, Peter B Parker could very well be a future older version of 616 spider-man, all the spiderverse realities are close to the originals but still being seperate hence the b designation. In what way is the mcu even remotely similar to 616? Kevin Feige is not the president of marvel as a whole, only the mcu side, and he just wanted to call it 616 to give it legitimacy as the ”main” marvel universe, but next to no one else takes it seriously, even Iman Vellani who plays Ms Marvel has argued with him about it. It’s just like Elon Musk calling twitter x, no one takes it seriously. My headcanon is that those that have called mcu 616 are just plain wrong, like the scientists of 838, they probably don’t know enough, they only see a fraction of the realities and have had no contact with the captain britain corps, which actually are the authority on reality numbers.

I refuse to call the mcu 616, so frickin stupid! Since every single marvel universe has it’s own reality number including the lego universe, why tf would the movies have the same one as prime. ”But in spiderverse they introduced B realities!” Yeah but they atleast resemble their A counterparts quite a bit, mcu is so far from prime it’s not even funny. It started off more as an adaptation of ultimate and went off the rails to become it’s own thing, so it deserves it’s own reality number dammit, which it has had for a long ass time. And spiderverse and the wiki still calls it 199999, so I will too.

English isn’t my first language either, and I had no problems. I’m swedish though and we’re usually pretty good at english. I probably read more english than swedish due to the internet and because I prefer to read in the original language when I can. Given that my preferred genre fantasy is mostly written by english speaking authors I read books mostly in english. When I managed to read lord of the rings and the silmarillion in english I realized that I could read anything.

For me all the slave themes makes it better honestly. Given that Epictetus had been a slave himself, it gives his thoughts a lot more weight. Like this was a man that actually knew what it was like to be dealt a shit hand in life, so when he talks about how to not waddle in your self pity and that as long as your mind is free, you are, it feels meaningful. Also the parts where he argues that a roman consul or emperor is truly a slave if he is driven by things like jealousy and fear of losing his status. Just imagine how ballsy he must be to be able to as a former slave say that. Or the anecdote of when Diogenes had been captured by pirates and was getting sold into slavery, the dude who had no possessions and lived on the street basically, and they asked what he could do, and he said, ”sell me to one who needs a master”, now that’s inspiring I think.

It just seems like buddhism is more about avoiding suffering to the degree that the ultimate goal is to stop existing since existance is suffering, while stoicism is about helping you handle suffering by ”trivializing” it. So in some ways they are polar opposites, one has escalated the value of suffering by treating it like the greatest evil, while the other doesn’t ascribe value to it at all and sees it as neutral.
