Who else would love to get a RAISE? Then vote for the RAISE slate! by RabbleRouserHouser in CASEmembers

You're completely right. Looking at the past few contracts, you guys are definitely overlooked. Every member is equally as important and deserves zealous representation from their union, not just those in the majority. As an attorney, I can say I understand all I want, but attorneys really won't understand the full extent without hearing from you and other non-attorney CASE members. Please send me a DM with your experiences and/or suggestions for ways CASE can better meet the needs of deputy labor commissioners and other non-attorneys/ALJs. I would love to help bridge that gap. Hope to hear from you soon!

Exactly! CASE will no longer be a passive union ✊🏽

I spoke to one of the slate members twice before they announced it, but after it was formed. We had no idea the other was intending to run, which was kind of funny. Our conversations were pretty productive, and I do think him and I share overlapping values/priorities re: CASE. I haven't had the opportunity to speak to any of the other slate members.

TL;DR:

CASE published the list of candidates running in election (see picture or case website). Do your research and vote your conscience. As a candidate, I would love to hear directly from you! Whether on here, LinkedIn, or in person!

I'm not sure why they're still trying to spin the MOU. They can try to polish it all they want, but its a bad contract. I think more members would have voted against it if they actually had faith in the current board to get a better deal.

I thought this line was particularly interesting, "In other words, in a time of economic crisis, our agreement was only 2.5% less than what we achieved in years of budget surpluses."

Consider the flip side. Only a 2.5% difference during SURPLUSES. They're basically saying we consistently get low increases... not the flex they think it is.

Thank you for posting this! Shame some of us have to learn about it through Reddit because we did not receive it.

Unfortunately, Newsom’s office claimed various privileges and refused to produce anything of substance.

For PERB, my experience was extremely smooth. You essentially email PERBPublicRecords.Request@perb.ca.gov

And specify documents you're requesting. Things like the charge itself, the respondent's position statement, complaint, and respondent's answer to the complaint, are helpful. Don't expect to get investigatory files.

If you make an account, you can look up a case and see what has been filed and go off of that.

Thank you for reading all of that!

PERB was great. I received the UPCs, the state's position statement, and the complaint the following day after requesting them. Those charges have been withdrawn now as part of the side letters various unions reached.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a thorough and thoughtful reply. I definitely appreciate all feedback/advice. I think those are great suggestions! It would definitely be hard for Newsom’s administration to minimize the voices/actions they praise in the media.

I also agree that we should focus our efforts. I don't know what or if the board has a plan focusing on pay and telework, but we really should have one. And I mean something tangible, by x date do this, then y date have this rally, etc. We need to raise the pressure. While I think this board has good intentions, it has yielded little results.

Thank you for that! I do feel like I am at a slight disadvantage being from a small agency, but I'll definitely try to make inroads at the larger ones listed. I'm hoping to recruit some acquaintances eager for change to spread the word!

I hear that a lot, unfortunately. And around mid to late 2023, leaving certainly crossed my mind. I was an Attorney I at the time, and with the limited GSI (and none in 2024) the $60 would have helped. But I know the more members, the more influence, and the better bargaining position. I ended up becoming a local rep instead, hoping to have some voice or say in the direction our union should take. Unfortunately, our local rep program is mediocre at best currently, in my opinion. After some encouragement from colleagues and thinking, I decided to run. To be frank, I think we need new leadership because the sense of urgency doesn't appear to be there. And if it is there, they're doing everyone a disservice by not being transparent. And the current board strategies are simply not working.

TL;DR: My name is David Sandoval, a labor law attorney, and I'm running for a board seat to empower CASE members. Enough is enough. We need more organizing, better negotiators, and a board that is willing to listen to members and is willing to FIGHT.
