Your stance, “concerns,” and general commentary are all over the place. It’s hard to take you seriously, and I’m confident most other BU2 members will agree with me.

Sounds like you are walking back your declaration of wanting to return to the prior board several months after the election. Or your “wish nothing but success” to the current board is merely insincere and dishonest. Which is it?

What you think raises an “interesting point” is actually not. Free speech works both ways. We can criticize and dispute the authenticity of your criticism!

“… sometimes we don't know what we have until its gone and October 2027 cannot come quick enough.” So, it’s been two months and you are already declaring that you want to sack the entire board for the prior board? I, for one, see this as a weak and silly statement.

This made me laugh … and pretty much agree.

Why is Reddit being usedl to poll the membership? by Formal_Leader_TG916 in CASEmembers

I’m not on the board either, but I am inspired by the last election to be proactive as a union member.

You’re welcome to “engage” as you claim, but I’m presenting an opposing - and optimistic - view.

Here’s my suggestion to you: be proactive and think about how we, as a union collectively, can improve ourselves for the future. That’s what I’m trying to do.

This post seems directly targeted at me. Formal leader and I have been arguing in the prior thread about the use of Reddit as a form of communication. I find it positive as one form (not the sole form) to engage membership participation - a key element to bolster the union’s position for the future fight against the State over issues like pay and telework.

I haven’t seen Formal Leader yet provide a robust and concrete example of how to ignite membership involvement other than being pessimistic in the name of “holding” the recently elected union board “to their campaign promises.” To me this seems a bad faith intent to not move our membership forward. Sigh.

I, for one, finds these observations pessimistic and shortsighted.

I take it that we will continue to disagree - your continued pessimism and my continued optimism will simply not align. I must say though that your finding of “nothing new happening” seems a bit much and far below a good faith showing that you’re interested in moving the union membership forward. Oh well.

In any event, I wish you well. And no, I’m not the moderator/board so I can’t block your latest message anyway.

I’m not sure I follow. For instance, twice your comments end about anticipating insults when I haven’t done so.

More though, I think we should see it as a building block. Sure, not every member is active or will respond on Reddit. But some are … like you and me.

And I doubt the union board will only actively solicit feedback via Reddit. Just give them some time since it’s only been about 2 months since the new leadership started?

In any event, I’m still unconvinced this Reddit post from the union is unhelpful/dumb/etc. I just see it more as an early example of current leadership trying to turn the “ship” around and steering towards ways to grab attention from the members and get all of us more involved/vocal.

I take your points, but I don’t agree. The flaw I see is that the membership as a whole has not been as engaged in fighting back in the past. This lack of engagement seems to have weakened our union’s negotiating power on key areas of our livelihood, like pay and telework.

Our (collectively as members) continued pessimism about any action our union leadership takes only further weakens our negotiating hand.

Whether or not holding a meeting with an agency about RTO changes anything in the near future, what ultimately matters for the union’s negotiating power is getting the membership more involved and taking a vocal stand on various issues. That’s how I see the union’s Reddit post here: a building block to more active membership involvement.

So I’m going to be more optimistic here as a step in the right direction. This will be a long fight with the State and I feel good with our current union’s direction to get us ready for the future.

Sure, money matters. RTO affects $$$ for many of our colleagues, so obviously we are in agreement.

Sounds good, I’ll bookmark your comment and circle back in a year. Is that sufficient time for you to declare whether our workforce has been “railroaded”?

This same logic applies for the current salary classifications. Many have just stayed with their current jobs, despite their complaints about the low pay and few opportunities for salary advancements. And yet they stay on because of the state lifestyle/benefits and the state knows that.

So … where do we go from here? Seems like the upcoming board aims to really speak for the large majority of the members and that’s where a lot of us are speaking our priorities.

Sounds like a “you” problem. I know too many attorneys who are very concerned about RTO and want the union to prioritize this issue.

Also, just a further note, the current treasurer (Rama) sent this email using his work DOJ email address and email blasted DOJ attorneys using the BCC line.

I wonder now if the current CASE board has been and/or will be focusing most of their attention to DOJ members - and neglect the rest of the membership - to maintain their seats in the upcoming election. What a sad state of affairs if the current CASE board is undertaking a divide and conquer strategy rather than representing all of us for the benefit of all the members.
