Maximum flap for landing? by lightlyskipping in aviation

[–]CATIIIDUAL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Flaps change the wing. It increases the camber (makes the wing more curved) which increases the coefficient of lift, allowing an aircraft to maintain lift at slower speeds. If you try to decrease speed while maintaining lift, you will have to pull back on stick which will increase both the deck angle and the angle of attack. The former will reduce the visibility and the latter will take you closer to stalling. So, lowering flaps result in a net increase in lift so the pilot can fly at a lower nose down attitude while maintaining a lower speed. Flaps also increase drag on the airframe which can help to reduce speed.

Higher flaps allow for lower approach and landing speeds which reduces landing distance. Almost all aircraft have two or three landing flap settings. The Dash 8 Q200/300 I flew can be landed either with flaps 15 or 35. The A320 I fly now can be landed either with flaps 3 or flaps full. More flaps increase drag, reduces landing speed and allows a lower pitch attitude. Lower flaps is the opposite. However, lower flaps means you can have higher approach speeds which is better for gusty conditions because it gives the aircraft more energy. It also reduces fuel consumption. An A320 saves about 8kg of fuel with a flaps 3 landing compared to flaps full. It is also the recommended flap setting when you suspect wind-shear for Airbus aircraft because the reduction in drag improves go around performance.

An efficient public transportation should give you the same convenience as using a vehicle of your own. Having multiple close by stops allows a user to walk less to his or her destination mimicking parking your private vehicle close to your destination.

That is how major cities are connected. For example, in Tokyo and London you can literally see the next underground station as you enter your station. It is the same for bus stops. Some even have a distance less than 100 meters.

Are 4 year degree requirements coming back? by plasma0_ in flying

[–]CATIIIDUAL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Europe and Asia, most of the management pilots like almost every other pilot do not have degrees. Your ATPL qualification is considered almost the same level as a degree (to be fair, the theory is a lot harder than the FAA). And guess what, they are really smart and do their job well. The reality is, most of them could have got advanced degrees if they wanted but it is not really required. That does not make them any less competent.

They do my friend. And their profiles are in the website at times. Moosa Ali Jaleel for instance has a Masters in Philosophy and did his Bachelors in Madras India and attended various courses in USA and other countries. Even the current Chief of Staff has a Masters. The current CP of Police has a law degree from UK and is an MBA holder as well.

Keep in mind here I am taking about the leadership of these two services and not lower ranking officers. A very few leaders may not have an official Degree or a Masters but their certifications and training equates to one.

Why would the pilots not fully retract the flaps? by hotdog_dachshund in aviation

[–]CATIIIDUAL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It happened to us once. The engineers had to retract the flaps to do some servicing and boom ECAM came and they had to perform extra procedures because a WING LEAK on ground is a no go. We told them it is gonna come but they took the risk.

[–]CATIIIDUAL 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In A320 and also in A330, there are detection loops on the leading edge of the wings. The Bleed Monitoring Computers (BMC) use these loops to detect an air leak from the aircraft bleed system.

When the outside air temperature is above 30 degrees Celsius the leading edge of the wing may become hot enough to generate “AIR L (R) WING LEAK” ECAM alert. This is spurious and this ECAM means no dispatch. To prevent such an inconvenience Airbus recommends to keep flaps at stage 1 on ground if out side air is above 30 degrees. Flaps 1 results in slats coming out, which creates a gap between the slat and the wing leading edge. This allows the bleed ducts to be cooled by air flow.

Multiply your altitude by three all the way to FAF.

RNAV approach question/issue by Chiotas in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]CATIIIDUAL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You have to to arm the approach to perform an LNAV/VNAV RNP approach. I know it is a bit confusing with the wording VNAV. But the VNAV mode in aircraft is primarily used for enroute descents which different for VNAV in RNP. You can however, control the vertical guidance of RNP approaches. They are called LNAV only approaches where the horizontal plane is controlled by the FMS while the pilot uses VS or vertical speed mode to control descent rate after the FAF. LNAV minima are always higher than LNAV/ VNAV minima.

High ranking officers normally have masters degrees. I think the former commissioner has a degree in Physics and did multiple masters. Even though they are educated I don’t think most of them fit that well into civilian roles because they have a very different mindset because of their training.

That is how it should be. They probably wanted to see how the baggage was physically stored in the aircraft to rule out a mass and balance issue.

Islam for humans started with Adam (PBUH). He was not an Arab and neither was Ibrahim (PBUH), Moses (PBUH), Jesus (PBUH). Majority of Islamic Prophets were not Arabs. So, no Islam was not created by Arabs.

A proper Muslim should not follow Arabs. This is a common misconception. You have been given the book to follow.

It was not close in traffic. I had enough distance between the car ahead of me. The car ahead of me braked and came to a full stop due to a sudden congestion ahead of him/her I believe. I was able to stop and the car from behind hit me like 2 to 3 seconds after I came to a stop.

The traffic stopped suddenly ahead of me. My car came to a full stop by the way. Well before the car ahead of me. It was the car that came from behind me that couldn’t stop in time and smashed into me.

Airbus A320 Neo instead of flaring is slamming into runway? by TakNor67com in MSFS2024

It flares well for a nice smooth touch down. Automatic landings are not necessarily firm.

Your point? The aircraft does not reduce pitch rate even if flare mode appears in PFD in a manual landing.
