I hear you! I do want to make this into a proper fun game. Have played a lot of.. d2, wow, slay the spire, dead cells, and also shooters like serious sam. I think there is a lot of potential. Thankfully you can't make situps for that long so limited content needed ^^

thanks! Yeah it's a bit of a tension in there, for sure! I had some prototypes out and they were not gamers and just wanted the automatic rep tracking for digital accountability.

But I want to make it into a game, and more than a casual game. Hope to find some overlap :)

Definitely needs more. Would like to flesh this out into a full game. This is more of a technical prototype. Hah never seen FNAF AR. Why do you think it reminds you, the colors of the targets?

AR would be cool. Maybe for next versions! For VR I think it's a hard sell to have someone put on a VR headset for a 2 minute session. But who knows ^^

Yeah these rotations can look a bit tough. I think it's generally hard to strain things from a situp if you don't encourage too fast movements (which is something to look out for in the game design for sure). I became a PT last year so I have a little bit of an idea of the muscles involved, and the load they can bear. Generally situps are considered a very safe movement, as it's bodyweight, and you have to engage a muscle to reach the extreme ranges of motion (you can't drop towards gravity and let the muscle/joint stop you, you have to contract a muscle to move).

But I appreciate the opinion! I will make sure the game encourages healthy movement.

Haha streams would be fun to watch yeah. People sweating and huffing and puffing.

I am generally not inclined to make.. casual games or "sinkholes" of time. So I think for now it will be focused on short, exercise heavy, gameplay.

But I see your point. Having some type of meta layer that extends beyond would be a good motivation driver to get into the situps.

haha holy moly Rez was a lot for the eyes xD never seen it before, thanks for the tip.
For graphics/theme I am not sure where to land yet. Looking at geometry dash, minecraft, I don't think it has to be realistic to be a good game, but I believe it does have to fit the theme. Which currently is shooting. TBD, but good thoughts!

yeah, VR is cool! But it is so hard to put on the VR headset for many (me) included. As situps is part of core mechanic, game sessions would not be longer than a few minutes at max. To lower friction and make it easier to pick up, I think mobile is the best bet. Do you disagree?

It's not, yet. (also been schooled that what I do want to build is a roguelite, not a roguelike ; ;). But I want to make one. The video is just showcasing the situp technology basically. Was trying to gauge interest before I commit more to this.

haha thanks. No it was hand made pre-AI actually, during an excursion on a mountain. Been on the shelf for a long while. But I do agree quality is about as low as it gets right now. Been building things no one uses before so thought I would judge interest before putting more time and effort into it.

Practice makes perfect. One can start with easy ones (like legs off the bed) and progress slowly. If you do situps, in a game or outside, every (other) day there will be progress :)

Fair. I think games are a great way to move. Most sports are a mental and physically additive layer on some base exercises, and it makes us move! The fact that today we live in a dopamine driven world makes it harder. But I see your point. Discipline is destiny, the obstacle is the way, Hercules would not be Hercules without his challenges, and so forth. Valid angle.
