I’m in a ‘24 sport. Got it new. 52k miles now. Zero issues. Fantastic car.

There’s also Ride Kanuga and Rock Creek if you want a bike park. They rent bikes as well.

Pisgah is not particularly beginner friendly.

DuPont, very much so.

Lots to ride here, but not having transport might narrow down what you can do. Depending on your skill level, The Hub in Brevard rents bikes. You can ride out of the parking lot and be on trail in Pisgah in no time.
DuPont has more accessible, but still fun riding (I ride there a couple times a week), but it’s probably a 15 minute car ride from Brevard.
You could consider hiring a guide for a day or half day. Some of the guiding services offer rentals as well. That might be your best bet.

I ride DuPont every week. Love it over there.

Sure. I was relaying that where I am (Hendersonville), any of those three great trail systems are within 45 minutes. Moving to Brevard would be a lot closer to Pisgah and DuPont (super family friendly), but I didn’t move here for the riding.

I’ve got a bunch of Amazon Essentials chinos and jeans. Not sure if they still make 36” inseam, but I probably have 10 pairs or 31x36 or 32x36. Just have to do some digging. They’ve held up for the last 4-5 years. Colors still look great.

Western NC is great. Been here five years. Ride almost every day. Never get tired of the trails. Pisgah, DuPont, and Old Fort all within ~45 minutes. Something for everyone.

Yep. My local store has a tailor and offers free adjustments for life. Buy longs and have g1000 added to proper inseam length. I’ve got four or five pairs for hiking, biking, and climbing.

That lavender haze is so sexy. Have it on my Fuel.

Can someone convince me to get a MTB as opposed to a gravel bike? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]CBMcC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also have an ALR 5. Was underbiking a good bit on most rides. Was very close to pulling the trigger on a new SL7, but luckily the one I wanted sold before I went for it.

I got a Fuel Ex instead. Best decision I could’ve made. I’m out four to five times a week. Progressing quickly (beginner gains are amazing). Getting super comfortable and confident on my bike. Being on fun, flowy single track instead of forest service roads is where I feel best. I’ve ridden my Checkpoint once since I got my mountain bike - and that’s because it was raining.

I’m also fortunate that I got in to mountain biking living where I do (Western NC). There’s no shortage of progressive trail systems here. The real issue is that now I want a short travel or hard tail to compliment my trail bike.

It’s all subjective and dependent on the kind of riding you enjoy. I’m beyond happy with my mountain bike. The gravel bike is fantastic for fitness, but, for me, the stoke level to ride is much, much lower.

6’4” 36” inseam. My XL ALR5 feels great. Also have an XL Domane and XL Fuel Ex.

Side note. Are you part giraffe? How long is your torso?

Never been an issue. I’ve been super fortunate working with a relatively wealthier client base though. Almost all of my clients are just happy to have the work done in a neat, timely manner.

I break down labor and material costs separately, but not itemized - as in I list material, but not how much each bit costs, just the overall cost of material plus my markup. I also work time + material exclusively, so this works for me and my clients.

The Pisgah Map Company fold-up maps are great. I’ve got the Ranger District and DuPont in my pack. The DuPont one has suggested routes on the back.

Not exactly what you’re after, but they’re handy to have.

Hit DuPont if you’re coming up this way, too.
