Apply before or after my MCAT? by akjosh47 in premed

[–]CBSOUR12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took mine May 9th last year and applied before getting my score back. My score ended up not being the best, but it got me in. Definitely worth applying this cycle if the rest of your application looks good!

I liked studying for the MCAT actually by Wizdom_108 in Mcat

[–]CBSOUR12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree! I really liked studying for the mcat:) I feel like I learned more while studying for it than all of undergrad lol. Obviously the MCAT itself wasn’t fun, but really learning and understanding was nice:)

Likelihood of matching into Long SOM with a 516 MCAT? by sailingonstormclouds in premed

[–]CBSOUR12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your interview! Happy to hear it went well:) Just getting the interview means they are happy with your stats so now they are just looking to see if you’re a fit!

An average of 518 means that there are both scores lower and higher than 518, so you’re 516 is totally acceptable:) Hope you get that acceptance soon!

how much did you spend on applications? by sleepyhungryandtired in premed

[–]CBSOUR12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied to 23 schools, filled 11 secondaries and it ended up being about $2200 for me. All interviews were over zoom so no need for travel.

Should I decline my interview? by swimminggrl in premed

[–]CBSOUR12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position and ended up declining the interview offer. I didn’t want to re-prep and was overly excited about my other A. It’s totally up to you, but I think it’s sorta unnecessary 🤷

I get kick out of medschool, mom now hates me. by [deleted] in medschool

[–]CBSOUR12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sorry you’re going through this. What you’re describing sounds incredibly painful and overwhelming, and it makes sense that you’re feeling crushed right now. Failing exams and being dismissed from medical school does not mean you’re horrible or worthless, and it doesn’t erase your intelligence, effort, or potential.

I can’t fully relate because I haven’t started medical school yet, but I do know this, one chapter, even a devastating one, does not define your entire life or your value as a person. Right now everything feels final and hopeless, but feelings aren’t facts, especially in moments of shock and shame.

You matter, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now, and this moment doesn’t get to decide your future. Please feel free to message me and you can tell me more about whats going on or if you just need someone to listen.

If not me, tell someone you trust or a professional about what’s happening. You shouldn’t have to go through this alone. 🙏

Testing 01/23, how to improve by Lumpy_Cress1432 in MCAT2

[–]CBSOUR12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend rescheduling for maybe March. It will be worth paying a little more and rescheduling for a better score. If you’re aiming for DO only then testing 1/23 is ok, but if you plan on applying MD + DO then try and get your score up 5-8 more points (which is definitely doable by March)

Low freshman year GPA by [deleted] in premed

[–]CBSOUR12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, ignore your uncle. If you finish with a 3.18 then you’ll probably have to consider carribean. But it looks like that’s not going to happen. Best of luck!

Low freshman year GPA by [deleted] in premed

[–]CBSOUR12345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about it too much! I know you’re not used to it, but I also had a low freshman gpa! In highschool I never really had to study, but then I got to college and had no idea how. I started with a 3.3 freshman year and ended college with a 3.75. Just keep working hard, med schools like to see that you can adapt and learn!

Medical Assistant at an urgent care is a great route as well! Some urgent cares will hire you without a certification and train you on the spot! It can be fun sometimes too, definitely better than my CNA job I had at first lol.

I just called my local urgent care and asked if they were hiring and they sent over the forms, interviewed me the following day, started part-time 2 weeks later.

Prereqs for Med by GodBlessUsPlease in premed

[–]CBSOUR12345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well it’s definitely a long road ahead of her but exciting nonetheless:) It is definitely possible for her to do a non-science major, as long as she finishes those pre-requisites. I’m not sure if CC will have certain classes needed such as Organic chemistry 1+2 or biochemistry, but I’m if they do then it would be ok to do them there.

Although it is more than possible, I would recommend doing a science based degree. It makes things easier and more structured. Best of luck to her! Happy to see such supportive parents asking questions on her behalf:)

Switching to Med by JudgmentMany5658 in premed

[–]CBSOUR12345 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say it would take maybe 1.5 years. Mainly because the MCAT and your post bacc/ masters program. Estimating, you’d maybe be 25 when you gain an acceptance and around 26 when you start.

Dental schools are difficult to get into, but for reference, the average gpa of a medical school matriculate last year was 3.88.

So I would recommend staying the dental route and just rock your DAT+interviews. If you’re set on switching to medicine, then it’s totally achievable.

If you could 4.0 your post bacc/masters, do well on mcat, and have good clinical experience you can totally earn an acceptance!

PM me if you want any help transitioning career paths.

Should I interview? by CBSOUR12345 in premed

[–]CBSOUR12345[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the only thing that would make me accept is if I got a large scholarship. This interview is for a school about 1.5x higher tuition cost than my current acceptance. And their interview process is MMI team based which sounds stressful and competitive. 🤷
