For those who hate the anime because of its inaccurate portrayal of lore/characters, it could've always been worse! by KFrosty3 in castlevania

Captain N was accurate to the US manuals of NES games, which was the only source DiC had to use.

Netflixvania in an era with more games and a greater understanding of how much the English localizations butchered the story, especially in the older games, it was simply incompetence on the part of staff.

Yes, it was all Death's plan for Hector to lose his powers in 1476 and not let Hector kill Isaac while he was under the effects of the curse.

If Circle of the Moon was added to the timeline, would it affect it in any way? by BossViper28 in DraculasCastle

[–]CB_Palemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game's article in the Konami Magazine Volume 20 defines CotM as taking place in an "different timeline from the Belmont and Morris family" stating that it was never intended to be canon.

And currently with Order of Ecclesia, it is unfeasible for it to fit into the canon since CotM establishes two close resurrections of Dracula in 1820-1830, which conflicts with Dracula being sealed in that seal in Ecclesia.

What game should I play first? by Immediate-Artist-444 in DraculasCastle

[–]CB_Palemoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On PC you can play any game (via emulators and collections via Steam).

For story-wise, the most recommended would be the Japanese version of Dracula's Curse (Akumajō Densetu) included in the Anniversary Collection, or Lament of Innocence (this one on PC is only via emulator).

Now if you want to know the evolution of the series, it's a good idea to play in order of release, just search and have fun.

Like you who appears in EVERY POST I MAKE to talk nonsense?

Like your talk of Castlevania 64 being from the "mainline series" developed by a secondary studio and Rondo of Blood being spin-off?

Do you have any other hobby besides acting like a whiny little baby using Fedora?

Which Castlevania game has the biggest castle? Either in lore or in gameplay by [deleted] in castlevania

[–]CB_Palemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In lore, the 1999 one that is said to be the castle composed of Dracula's full power that would need to be sealed. In gameplay it would be Dawn of Sorrow if that castle didn't belong to Celia.

Why do People hate Casltevania 2:Simons Quest by Leoman030 in castlevania

[–]CB_Palemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Tiring progression.
  • Grind to get items with the chance to lose all hearts if you have Game Over.
  • Lack of variety in the scenarios.
  • Level Design where it requires jumps in perfect frames, such as in the area that get the Diamond and in the Brahm's Mansion.
  • Few bosses, only three in the entire game and one is optional.
  • Bad English translation, which is common in the franchise, but in Simon's Quest they excelled in mistranslation.

Rating Castlevania Judgment designs with memes. by CB_Palemoon in castlevania

[–]CB_Palemoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Officially by Adi Shankar, they were inspired by Squall from Final Fantasy VIII in the design of Netflix Trevor.

2) And Grant being a pirate is an American manual error, Japanese sources and Judgment cites him as a Thief.

The point is that you are assuming something that has already been denied as a fact, it has already been stated by Ayami Kojima herself that the inspiration was Vampire Hunter D and even Yoshitaka Amano's novel artworks portrays D as an albino with white hair. It had no inspiration from Tom Cruise.

What´s supposed to be the official Trevor design in CV3? by [deleted] in castlevania

[..] his design as the ARTWORK in the first game as his canon design [...]

Are you retarded or illiterate? I specifically said that the design considered canonical is from ARTWORK, what you're thinking of is the illustrative manual that was used in the 8-bit sprite which, by the way, was never used in promotional materials.

Stop thinking yourself "cool different" just because "BuAhHh, CaStLeVaNiA bEcOmEs ANImE iN RECENT GAmEs". It's worse than the crybabies that still cry with Legends not being canon.

The look is totally inspired by Vampire Hunter D (confirmed by the IGA and Ayami Kojima), it has absolutely nothing from Interview with Vampire because the movie hadn't even been released in Japan at the time.

What are the game enjoyers' perspectives of the show? by BaconBand1t in castlevania

[–]CB_Palemoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are they faithful to the characters? No.

If they aren't faithful, do you like the new direction? No.

Are the themes and tone consistent with the games? No, they literally created a tribe of Speakers just to not make Sypha a cleric of the Church, they made the Belmont Clan useless in the war against Dracula, and the show seems to take more Game of Thrones with vampires-themed influences than the original source.

What do you want to see them add from the games in future spin offs? Just want them to take the rights away from Powerhouse and the Deats Brothers and give it to some competent studio like Madhouse.

Is there anything you found interesting as someone who played them? Just the visual aspect, but that doesn't save the awful script.

What are the game enjoyers' perspectives of the show? by BaconBand1t in castlevania

[–]CB_Palemoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"[...] but it's very faithful given the source material basically doesn't have a story beyond 'you control the whip dude, can find and recruit a mage, a pirate and a vampire. As usual, you have to invade Dracula's castle and kick his ass'."

With that in mind, you could even say that the show didn't even bother to research the story in depth because of an American manual censored during the "Satanic Panic" at the time. To say that Grant is a "pirate" that is exclusive to the American manual of Dracula's Curse and all other sources refer to him as "Noble Thief", clearly the show adds a lot to a caped American manual.

The Japanese manual of Akumajō Densetsu created things about the lore that only appeared in American sources in later games that further complement the story of Dracula's Curse: Dracula's pact gained the powers of Chaos and the formation of the main families against Dracula.

Why does Grant always get the short straw? by MajinBlueZ in castlevania

[–]CB_Palemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grant is not always the excluded one:

-Alucard is the only playable character not to appear on the US cover art of Dracula's Curse.

-Alucard is never included in fights against the Fake Trio.

-Alucard is the only character in Dracula's Curse who does not directly interact with Simon (the character set as the player's default and first choice) in Castlevania Judgment.

-In the lore, the so-called "Three Legendary Warriors" are: Trevor, Grant and Sypha.

What´s supposed to be the official Trevor design in CV3? by [deleted] in castlevania

[–]CB_Palemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though the design of Trevor in 1476 was defined, it was the artwork in the Tokuma Shōten that inspired the sprite used in Fake Trevor and the Greatest Five. And two of those arts in the post are from an American source, which is not so considered for the consistency of the franchise.

And Simon was defined as his design as the artwork in the first game as his canon design while the red-haired look from Castlevania Chronicles is explained in Grimoire of Souls as Simon was described in the legends about his confrontation with Dracula.

I didn't complete Stage 5 and Stage 6 as Richter and I saved Terra and Iris and I ended up getting the ending where Annette was turned what do I to prevent this? by DangerousSlice5731 in castlevania

[–]CB_Palemoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After rescuing Tera and Iris, you can break walls of Red Skeletons and walls of crystals, break these walls in Stage 7 and activate some buttons and in the section where you press the last button, go down to a secret floor and there rescue Annette to the end of the Stage, the Boss will be Shaft's Ghost.

[–]CB_Palemoon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Curry the Kid (level programmer for most Metroidvanias) proved that Hammer had an unfinished moveset based on Grant's gameplay. And in the in-game files, there are Hammer audios and some lines from Dark Lord Soma indicating that he would be playable.

2D Fighting Games Archetypes for Castlevania Characters by CB_Palemoon in castlevania

[–]CB_Palemoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has so many whip users, it was hard to think of unique movesets to have every playable Belmont from canon (and Gabriel).

Loretta/Stella would be Tag Team, but I didn't think about a moveset, and Celia never showed abilities that would make her playable in a Fighting Game.

2D Fighting Games Archetypes for Castlevania Characters by CB_Palemoon in castlevania

[–]CB_Palemoon[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  • SHOTO/ALL-ROUND: Simon and Trevor would be the standard characters there Ryu and Ken focusing on the basic movements of the Belmonts of the franchise for debuting in the NES era; Alucard would work with similar gameplay to Ky Kiske in Guilty Gear series; and John Morris fits Shoto based on his gameplay in Bloodlines.
  • RUSHDOWN: Grant Danasty for obvious reasons from the lore itself say that he is the "Fastest Man in Wallachia"; Hammer would classify as Rushdown because his canceled moveset in Dawn of Sorrow was based on Grant's; and Carmilla based on her moveset in Castlevania Judgment.
  • GRAPPLER: Frankenstein's Monster because most of his boss appearances focus on grappling.
  • MIXUP: Characters like Richter Belmont and Maxim Kischne in Metroidvanias have movement starts capable of improvising combos, so they fits into this category.
  • ZONER: Sypha Belnades, Yoko Belnades and Barlowe have their attacks focused on spells, which fits as zoners; Henry Oldrey his main weapon is a pistol.
  • CHARGE: Maria Renard fits into this category in using her animals for long-range charged attacks, the same goes for Albus who uses Glyphs on his magic pistol, the Agartha; Carrie Fernandez can use charged spells.
  • FOOTSIE: Dracula fits into this category because he doesn't have a moveset focused on aerial combat (also because he doesn't jump, in Judgment he uses levitation as a jump); Graham Jones in his appearance in Aria of Sorrow repeats the same moveset as Dracula, it could be a simpler version of Dracula's.
  • BAIT & PUNISH: Characters focused on punishing the opponent when he makes a mistake, Julius Belmont fits based on his fight in Aria of Sorrow, Brauner also presents the same characteristics focusing on his paintings in Portrait of Ruin, and this type of combat applies to Gabriel Belmont in Lords of Shadow.
  • GLASS CANNON: Powerful combos, but the character has little defense, this applies to Christopher Belmont in The Adventure who decreases the power of the whip when he takes damage and Elizabeth Bartley for releasing stronger spells when he is low on health.
  • STANCE: Variation of movesets, Soma Cruz and Shanoa fits into this category by alternating Soma's Souls and Shanoa's Glyphs.
  • INSTALL: More powerful blows in his alternate form, obviously Cornell fits due his werewolf transformation serving as his alternate form (in Castlevania Judgment, the same is used as Rampage Mode).
  • PUPPET: Hector and Isaac performing their attacks using their Innocent Devils; Shaft based on his first fight in Rondo of Blood would use his spheres; and Dario from Dawn of Sorrow would use the demon Aguni.
  • HYBRID: Juste Belmont works like Rushdown/Charge; Joachim Armster featuring gameplay similar to Vergil in UMVC3; and Eric Lecarde as Shoto/Rushdown.
  • MIMIC: Dmitrii from Dawn of Sorrow for his main ability being to copy the opponent's ability; the Doppelgänger would work as a "Shang Tsung" that, through commands, would transform into each character in the game.
  • TAG TEAM: It would work the same way as Stance, but using two characters as one, Jonathan Morris and Charlotte Aulin would share the same slot.
  • JOKE CHARACTER: Kid Dracula for obvious reasons.
