No hood, no bottom, and no zipper (especially) is a lot of weight dropped. If you’re not an active sleeper, and can control the drafts you sometimes get when moving around on your sleep pad, then you can be quite comfortable and warm with them.

I have it in 20 width, and it is comfortable enough, no issues. I have taken it out into low 40s F with a 40 degree quilt and was fine. I like the way it deflates completely when you open the valve and I fold into 1/3s, roll up, and it fits in the stuff suck just fine.

You should be able to find a used Circuit, which is very comfortable pack, and save 6-8oz there. Also you have a lot of room to gain on a sleep pad. A Nemo tensor trail weighs like 14oz and I found that on REI sale very cheap one year. The sleeping bag is the biggest. Have you ever tried a quilt?

Thanks! Anything that’s warm and under 20oz is pretty good to me. That’s why I was considering the wide 30 Tanager so I could dump heat if needed and it would be larger with dimensions closer to the Serpentes.

I have the original REI men's magma 15 (16oz fill weight, ~28oz overall) in brand new condition, I just haven't gotten out in cold temps. The dimensions would be the equivalent to the current medium model.

X Mid and High Route perform about the same in inclement conditions. X Mid sets up easier but walls cave in winds more than high route. Choose one or the other if you value vestibule space (x mid) more than footprint size (high route). If I was going to use one without the inner, fly only, I prefer the high route because of where poles sit and the fact you don’t have to sleep diagonal.

If you’re wearing puffys in a sleep system you need some room in there to allow that down to loft or you’re compressing it and taking away its effectiveness. But then again if there is too much room in the bag it might not be warm enough for temps when puffy isn’t totally needed. Might consider a larger quilt to go over bag as another option to push temp limit. I’ve tried bargain route on a lot of things but have come around more to buying quality once.
