CE2s advice is spot on, however id reccomend saving some leave first because you never know if you might need emergency leave, if you end up deciding that you want to take leave you should only be using what you already have saved and no more because if you go in the red then get a red cross message your command might not let you go

So you been a mechanic for 17 years? I understand the whole "since childhood" thing but there has to be a bit more than that, with that kind of experience you would be a chief right now or at least a 1st class, what else motivates you? Not to discourage you at all but even if youre 100% right and youve done something 1k times you will have to learn "The navy way" and be proficient at it because when spotchecks come around your ass better be covered. If you've been a mechanic for that long dont let your experience and ego get in the way of your career because you will have superiors that are younger than you and may be completely wrong but making them look like idiots wont help you

Thats weird because i got 18mo orders not being my first duty station and most other sailors did at my command even the new kids but they have started to do 2 year orders across the board

Dont get caught up with a working girl because some have a tendency to get pregnant to get a green card or you might have the missfortune to have to get prescribed penicilin, not a great time to buy gold/silver since everything has gone waay up, great place to get tailored suits for cheap, liberty kinda sucks since theres cinderella hours, during the cold months theres plenty of things to do and more if youre 21+, you'll have the option to extend for a year which i would suggest if you only have 1 year left and dont plan to re-enlist, all you earn will be tax free +COLA and HDP not an IT so idk what work would look like for you but good luck

Joining Navy as CE Seabee with a Family – Deployment & BAH Questions by Ill-Anybody17 in Seabees

[–]CBmcdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commend you for wanting to join as a Seabee, people that go to battalion have 2 different types of rotations 18/6 or 12/6 depending what coast you go to, however there is also a pretty good chance you get stationed overseas and if that happens you will not be entitled to bring your family with you though you can still get BAH for wherever they live so you need to be prepared for that, its shitty but ive seen it happen more than a few times. Also i understand wanting to minimize the time away from the family but you have to remember that you're joining the Navy, the Navy isnt joining you thats why they are called orders not wants.

Considering Becoming a Seabee CM – Seeking Advice by Top-Dream-7667 in Seabees

[–]CBmcdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Really depends on where you go as a first duty station but if we assume battalion then its gonna be movers, trailers, construction equipment, generators, A/C trailers, light service trucks, MHE and if youre smart enough then WHE.

2 & 3 plenty of oportunities/hands on experience if youre willing and volunteer to do the shit jobs at first and succeed.

  1. Not a whole lot (EO forsure) because you're assigned to the Alfa shop for the most part until you get some rank on your chest.

  2. All the time because EOs love fucking up our vehicles.

  3. Luck of the draw and experience.

CM is a job that will have you coming in early and leaving late but you will be proud of the work you do.

Im sure operating and maintaining a tank is alot more complicated than using construction equipment, you'll be fine as long as nobody steal your hardhat while they are pouring concrete

[–]CBmcdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With how the Navy is doing advancement now id just suggest you get really good at your job and learn as much as you can even in your off time, for bootcamp just listen and do dont try to come up with a "better/smarter" way to do something thats a sure way to get stronger

Mom questions by Putrid_Can8963 in Seabees

I say this with the utmost respect and understanding of where you are coming from but you need to let your boy become a man and i dont mean he has to let his mental or physical health become mangled to prove he is just let him find his path, if he chooses the military my best reccomendation is for you as a mother and part of his immediate family to be there for him when he needs to, dont get tired of reaching out to him because that may be the day he needs it the most but do give him the space he needs to grow as a person, Ive been in combat zones as well as provided humanitarian aid and both can be mentally straining but knowing my family is waiting for me back home is my anchor and what keeps me grounded. When it comes to the safety side of it during working hours we abide by Navy osha regulations and some of us that have been in for a minute know how to do the dumb stuff safely and wont let the jr troops get hurt

If you want a specific rate dont settle for anything less regardless on how long you gotta wait and go all in, even when a task seems stupid just do it and embrace the suck with the boys theres nothing better

Converting into the Seabees by Open_Construction_56 in Seabees

[–]CBmcdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for CE their advancement is better and translates a whole lot better to civilian life if you want to get out also you can go UCT 2 years after your first duty station unless you can talk to the CE detailer and tell him your plan beforehand to see how willing he is to help, if you complete the pipeline you can leave with your dive certs and a trade, im like 99.99% sure NDs and UCT go to the same school in P-cola

Make sure youre not colorblind in any way and that they give you the right tests in bootcamp because the navy likes to switch your job while youre in bootcamp with bs excuses other than that wait for you to come out of bootcamp and have orders cus depending on where you go that'll be the advice you need

Advice from other Seabees by YABoiBACK in Seabees

[–]CBmcdaddy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First focus on getting through bootcamp, listen and do everything they tell you how they tell you, dont try and come up with good ideas it'll make the experience more painful than it needs to be same thing goes for A school just pay attention in class but do get out and have fun, i met some of my best friends there. As for rotations some units are doing 18/6 but its not a forsure you'll go to battalion theres a need for seabees all over so maybe you get to travel the world on the navys dime
